Genealogy / Searching for Petryczuk [5]

There could be some variations of the name (Petrynczuk for example).

Travel / Exchanging the Australian dollar in Krakow? [6]

NEVER exchange your money at the airport - if you do, you lose about 5% rightaway. Take your time and go to the bank or "kantor" (currency exchange in Polish) to do it, or exchange it in your country as darius suggests.

Life / What is a Polish neighbor like? [21]

I 'm in Canada, my neighbours are exactly like that and none of them is Polish.

I don't know if you're Polish.. but would your neighbors invite you to their kid's wedding party the day after you met? Or go and try to borrow $500 the day after you met? Or try to get married their daughter to your son (even though they haven't met yet)? Or try to borrow your car to go pick up someone from the airport? Don't think so..

Unless your neighbours... are of Polish-origin :)

Life / What is a Polish neighbor like? [21]

I would disagree. Poles are very specific in their social contact with other Poles, especially their neighbours; invite your Polish neighbor for a dinner and the next day you may be treated as a family member (in both good or bad aspects). A Polish neighbour sometimes knows more about you than you do about yourself :).

I mean Polish neighbours between Polish neighbours (not Poles between a foreigner where the barrier is usually thicker).

Life / What is a Polish neighbor like? [21]

It depends. Even though the sayings are true, they don't mention it's terribly hard to have a good Polish neighbor. Some of them are jealous of each other and interfere into your family matters...

Poles in the UK sleeping in toilets

What about the British* who are sleeping in toilets? It's possible to manipulate the public opinion as much as you can just be looking at the problem from a slightly different angle.

* in reference to British homeless people

USA, Canada / Looking for spirytus GTA area (Canada) [14]

Will be hard to get in that area - you need to find a Polish store and they may point to to the right people. Or ask someone to buy it and ship it to you from the US.

Life / Bloody Priests in Poland... [58]

People of little or no faith only look for occasions to prove they are right. Priests are not saints. If a kid misbehaves (in church, school, or anywhere else he should behave), it should be normal to show him who is in charge (if spoken reprimand don't work, there's no other way than to use physical strength). If he allowed them to misbehave there would be other people who would say: "Oh, so he allows the little bastards to mock him and sing silly songs in the House of God? What kind of a priest he is - the one who doesn't respect his religion and the Holy Church". So give people a point of view and they can always prove their point if they want to.

When I was in Poland as a kid, I was a couple of times "shaken" by a priest too because I was behaving disrespectful. But it teached me the lesson to become a better person. Nowadays people allow their kids too much freedom and then they disrespect their parents or older people in general.

Genealogy / Can someone help me with the town name Rodzom [6]

I doubt it's either Rodzoń or Rodzom (don't think such places exist in Poland). But it could be "Rożen Mały" in the old Polish Województwo Stanisławowskie - the region now belongs to Ukraine, not Poland.

USA, Canada / American-Polish families keep talking about Poland... [6]

I guess what I am lookin for is why some resent those who came to America long time ago..

You mean why some "new" Polish immigrants resent other Polish immigrants who immigrated a long time ago?

USA, Canada / American-Polish families keep talking about Poland... [6]

I noticed that too (I myself like to talk about my family members or friends in Poland). But also about Polish politics, sports, economy, etc. When you grew up in Poland it stays with you and you'll always relate yourself to Poland.
