Law / What polish people like to eat? Need some business ideas. [17]

The Poles love meat

I was actually going to suggest vegetarian, they seem to go well in Krakow but you know how suedo sophisticated Krakovians are. I don't know if it would work.

BTW it is strange hearing that from a sheep.

BTW, that is the first time I have ever used BTW , I did it again :-0

Life / Who has moved to Poland in the last year? Swap stories. [115]

It's happened in every property I bought in Poland. I've even had toilets removed. I expect it as standard practice.

I have to ask you to elaberate, it would be different if they wanted the toilet and I did not, did you want the things they took?

I would like to make this a thread? put it to the people if you know what i mean.

Normal practice in my experience

I have not had that happen before to me or anyone I know.

What, Polish people?

Yes, well one guy from Krakow said he had a similar experience.
And the people doing it were shocked I got so mad.

Life / Who has moved to Poland in the last year? Swap stories. [115]

I got one for you, I just moved back to Poland about 6 months ago. I bought a house here. So the previous owners had two weeks to take their furniture. So they brought the whole family, I mean parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, grand children, the whole lot. Well you'll never guess, they were taking light fittings, light switches, unscrewing the sliding doors, built in cupboards the whole lot. My understanding of furniture is movable items. I am a big guy and I can have a fierce temper sometimes. I flipped, roaring and shouting, punching walls (I know it is stupid) and threw the whole lot out. Told them they could come back the next day and all their crap would be out the front.

It must be noted that this could have happened anywhere and is not the normal practice in Poland, well at least that is what people tell me ;0)

Sandwiches

I agree, freshly made sandwiches is a good one.

Norwegian food

Whale meat and fish cakes? I don't think so but then again Ikea is packed full of people for the Swedish food but I think that has a lot to do with the price. And money is probably why so many are in Norway too ;0)

remiras, I recommend that you also take into consideration where you are going to set up shop, for example, is it mainly a residential area - restaurants , offices - lunch break, Tourist area - traditional polish food.

Good luck

Life / Things to be afraid of in Poland? [109]

Take the usual precautions as you would anywhere

Gas mask, bullet proof vest, the usual arsnel of weapons, lock pick, grappling hook, camouflaged combat clothes, some anti-voodoo dolls and a rabbit's foot, actually if you can bring the whole rabbit that'd be great! but remember that is only if you are going to the north of Poland to the sea side, as you would at any seaside.

My point was really that their can not be a line if it is constantly changing. I meant, like the list earlier and the bad things "they" bring, Irish would definitely have been on that list years ago.

I would not call this a revrse racism, but giving the opportunity to those who didn't have it in the past.

Is it the reverse part that the problem is? if one race gets something over another, is that not racist? My problem with that was the education part or lack there of.

Yes and No.

Agreed, but my point is that refugees are asylum seekers. I think it has lost it's meaning to many people. And of course I mean the majority who are genuine.

I am not familiar with their guideliness therefore I am not going to comment on that issue.

I am also not familiar with Swedens guidelines, but I am Norway's. My ex-girlfriend was a refugee there, it was a good insight.

showing pride has nothing to do with RACSIM.

It really depends on where you are from, it can be manipulated. The orange men marching down the garvaghy road banging their drums is considered pride by some and provocation by others. I have seen St.Georges day being munipulated by the national front, to make England Ethnically clean.

I would jus tlike to point out that there are several reasons for bringing the immigants into the country and one major one is a bug supply of cheap labour.

Of course, a country would not allow people in if they did not need them, it would not make sence.
ha ha ha, I do not think you will find many business owners complaining.

but those who never immigrated cannot relate to immigrants and take an easy way out by saying that immigrants are to blame. It is an example of a scapegot situation.

I was amazed at the speed it happened, over night, Irish people got a few quid and forgot their history, I must again state it was a minority of very loud Dubliners. And And people will always find scapegoats.

The summer is here.

Nice points, I thought you'd be a good contribution, thanks

cool and scary.

I was shocked when I first came here, that everyone goes out to the graveyards around Halloween (an Irish festival, most think it American) Although the meaning has changed to the dead rising, trick or treat etc...

They are beautiful.

nstead of harping on about what you don't like

I think masks98 likes walking down the street with his girlfriend and everyone supposedly looking at him. Some people get a buzz out of being different and we all have ego's with the exception of one. So maybe masks98 is telling us what he likes.

masks98 do you like being the only gay in the village ?(I hope you get the reference and do not think I am calling you gay, reference from a English comedy called "little britain")

If you hadn't made it obvious you were black then you might not be having such a response to your posts from certain members of our community.

Good point, masks98 should have told noone and then came out of the closet when he had everyone right where he wanted ? lol

Not that any of the named parties are racist or anything

It does seem that everyone is calling everyone else racist but saying they are not.
I also think some people are confused to what a racist is, not that I am an expert but I think we can all see it in each other?

But it seems as if lines are being drawn, those lines are constantly changing, so how do we know who is who and what is what?

This all reminds me of South Africa
On the one hand you have aparthide and on the other you have reverse racism, where uneducated blacks are picked over educated whites because they are black.

If you catch what I mean.
Also you have to kinda look at who you are letting in, refugees are refugees, (some are not but the screening policy needs to be tightened.) i know Sweden lets lots of refugees live there who would otherwise probably be hunted down and murdered, they are not right in the head after what they have been through.

But no one wants to be a minority in their own country, labelled racist if they show pride in their traditions and nation.
And yet again I was disgusted before leaving Dublin about how intolerant some loud Dubliners were about "all the F***ing refugees comin ere F***ing everything up" considering we are a nation of refugees, 3.5 million irish in Ireland 70 million Irish in the world,

It is a tight rope.

. That is all I will add to this thread.

I think this thread is quite good and deserves to be discussed, the more insights the better.

Because Bavaria once had a good deal of friendly culture

Show me an Irish bar run by Irish, well there are a few, but you know what I mean.
It has just become a franchise.

Why? Why would you give a crap about that if you could still have a drink and the company of some friends?

I have to say that the American "culture" does not have the same value on authenticity as most other nations have.

tomek, you seem to know what you are talking about. I have a question, when I first came to Poland I was surprised by the un-european look of some of the Polish population, from the slanting eyes of what was told to me to be Mongolian, to what I recognise as dark skin and flat noses similar to that of black people.

I am from Ireland, no real trading root, and not much mixing, a few Norse men and a couple of English (two exactly and I know them lol)

I wouldn't touch either black woman in that photo, nor would I touch the white woman behind them. Is that woman representative of all white women, no - I would be retarded to use her as an example, and I would be just as retarded to use those black women as an example of black female physical appearance.

Some people do not like overly fat women, some do
so why can't someone not fancy black women, anyway I think ASG was making light of the subject.

I wouldn't touch a black woman a 6 foot bar pole... does that make me racist? :)

I don't know, I mean it is down to who you fancy, I think.
But say if I changed it and said I wouldn't touch an English woman a 6 foot bar pole... does that make me racist? (this comment is not true)

Work / Any english teachers in Poland here with tips to share? [55]

I am just curious, do native English teachers get such good benefits now as 7 years ago when there were fewer?
The company I worked for bought my plane tickets (3 in total) and this was before cheap flights. I got 4000 zloty a month, it was more then, things were cheaper and they got me a beautiful flat just off rynek glowna in Krakow.

Work / Any english teachers in Poland here with tips to share? [55]

I used to teach English, the most embarrassing thing that happened to eemmm...
It was my first time in Poland, 7 years ago, I was working and wanted to learn Polish and pronounce everyone's name the Polish way. It was all fine, a few tongue twisters, but one day I asked for Barbra, and trying to say it the Polish way I said " Is bara bara here?" well everyone fell around laughing, except one girl, who looked at me as if to say, WTF? I just continued the class as professionally as I could... I found out later Bara bara means something like "a quicky" or "nookey"

Law / Some questions about running a Hostel in Krakow [28]

?And when u compare Krakow and Zakopane which can be more economic for me to start such business?

Zakopane is underdeveloped and pricey, I am currently looking for a commercial property in Zakopane and it is difficult.
There is a huge amount of people in Zakopane during the summer, mountain walking and drinking amoung other things, mostly Polish people but this is changing. Krakow has a lot more tourists. Zakopane is full of private rooms in people's houses for rent, they are cheap and I have been to a few and they are fine. But I think the place is crying out for something funky, hip or just a bit different.

The hostel VaFunkoolo shown is in a great location, not too far away and great transport, Detla street in Krakow, there is no mention of price.

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

That was what they did already and there is serious discussion about how it can be called a democracy if people vote but it does not matter. And how they can not just change the language and do another treaty and another ...until people think it is something else, do not turn up to vote and it passes.

Correct me if I am wrong, I do not know so much about American politics, I was never that interested, but was that not what happened in Florida, their votes did not count? and the Patriot bill was past, which was a remake of another bill that was rejected and called a great name, if you do not vote yes in this bill you are "unpatriotic"?

"No" means No.

Law / Some questions about running a Hostel in Krakow [28]

I have to agree with VaFunkoolo, maybe get a job in a hostel first, see how it works.
Krakow would be expensive and for a hostel you would need quite a few rooms meaning spending a lot of money.
I too have always wanted to open a hostel and I do intend to have a hostel somewhere hot beside the sea for my retiring years, meeting people from all over the world.

If you are looking at Krakow, I would suggest also looking at Zakopane, lots of tourism there too, and not far from Krakow.
Check out the Nieruchomosci (estate agents) they will tell you if there are any places to let and what rent to expect.
Good luck

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

Bratwurst Boy, A lot of people voted "no" in Ireland, an option the rest of Europe did not even have. I think if Germany's voice was being muffled you'd vote no too?

People care about what is happening and going to happen with their futures.
Of course there are good points to the treaty and I have started to read the bloody thing now and of course you have valid points. A general tightening up of the E.U. and enabling more power.

A lot!

you are not my type.
