UK, Ireland / Are the Poles in England hated? [450]

How can you be so sure of this?

Because of the anti-British sentiment on here in regards to weekend visits to Krakow. It's not as if the British come to Poland and disrespect the culture ALL year round.

Life / Do Polish people respect other cultures? [96]

British people call Irish travellers Gypsy even they are not gypsies

A definition from dictionary.com

gypsy: (lowercase) a person held to resemble a gypsy, esp. in physical characteristics or in a traditionally ascribed freedom or inclination to move from place to place.

So yes, someone would be perfectly correct in describing a traveller as a gypsy.

I hope that helps.

UK, Ireland / Are the Poles in England hated? [450]

The 99% (mayority) of the English population is just against their own government (LABOUR) now

This Labour government has been in power for 11 years, to suggest that 99.9% of the electorate don't support them is laughable and indeed incredibly ignorant.

The sad fact is that anyone from the TOP in the Brit Government will suffer, but the only one who will suffer the mistreat, the abuse, is you GUYS the POLISH people who made a mistake in thinking that UK is a paradise.

Who said the UK was a paradise?

Every country has a fascist element. Britain should be admired for the fact that the BNP is so widely laughed at and has no political power whatsoever. You only need to look around Europe for similar parties which command far greater acceptance among their electorate.

UK, Ireland / How to avoid bad tension in workplace Pole in UK/Ireland [18]

how many turned up in areas with orange kerbs and then moaned that they were not made welcome etc etc....

It's all a little sad really. That's why a more multicultural place like London would perhaps be better.

Feedback / Translation Threads - where did most of them go? [23]

all the translation threads that are not recent anymore disappeard

I noticed this. I thought I was being punished by an angry mod but it appears as if they have been archived. Shame really because the old threads were a good source for translations. I'm sure a number of the new threads will be duplicates of the ones that are no longer...

What is Mr Brit (lower class) labour worker supposed to do when he is being undercut by cheap immigrant labour?

Develop skills which enable him to do a job which can't be done by cheap immigrant labour?

News / Polands World Cup. [9]

Poland doesn't deserve the World Cup.

They have some of the worst behaved fans in the World. They make the Scousers and Cockneys of the 1980's look like angels.

Are the Poles in England hated?

Evidently not as much as the Brits in Krakow!!

they walk around calling all white women with black/asian guys kur**a. sometimes i wish i had the amount of muscles they have so that i could beat the shite out of them :P

The 'pumped up Poles'* at my local gyms in East London don't do this. But if you've seen the black/asian guys in question you'd understand why!!

* the spotty backs are usually good indication of 'roid abuse (personally never understood the rationale behind risking an early death and shrinking your tool, solely to end up with an upper body which looks stupidly dispraportionate to your legs!)

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

guess you havent seen the Poles on a night out in the UK then? Should they all be barred from the streets here?

It is this point which makes this debate so funny. I wonder whether any of the people on their high horses regarding the British abroad have ever been to London and seen the behaviour of some Poles.

what about all the Polish neds at the football thingy the other year in germany

The Polish have the most violent football fans in Europe. The sad thing is they idolise the British culture of the 70's/80's which has long since died out (similar to taste in jeans etc).

I propose a ban on watching Rise of the Foot Soldier and The Football Factory. Clearly a bad influence on this nation of perfect people.

Definitely not only British. I've recently watched a documentary about the child sex industry in Tailand and Cambodia. They were secretly documenting an American Dr. in Cambodia, and the extremely young (5 +) being sold to mainly Americans and Brits. It's a shocking reality.

As long as the people involved are of the age of consent there isn't a problem.

Like I said. Paedophilic acts are sick whatever country they are committed in!

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

So you would condone British sex tourism to places like Thailand?

As long as the people involved are of the age of consent there isn't a problem. Sex tourism is one of Thailand's biggest 'exports'.

yes it may not be to locals tastes, yes it may offend middle class values and other social mores

Actually, I haven't found this a problem in many (if any) of the European countries I have visited. You will see an infinitely higher number of drunk Brits on Greek islands than in Krakow, but the locals there don't seem to b*tch about it quite as much as some do on here. Likewise, I see more Poles in London than actually live in Krakow but I choose to embrace this rather than form ignorant racial stereotypes.

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

Don't stereotype me. I wouldn't think of stereotyping the good people of Northern Ireland in a derogatory way.

Refusing someone entry to a club because they are out of their boat is different to singling out a group based on nationality. I have been to Faliraki, Kos, Kavos, Spain, Krakow, Prague, Budapest and Amsterdam and behaved myself perfectly. Indeed, when I was in Krakow, two Kiwis I met were refused entry to a club for being too wasted. Not for being Kiwi to the best of my knowledge!

If people urinate/vomit in the street, fight, cause criminal damage etc then by all means take appropriate action. Banning specific (British) groups because they are loud and having a good time is a joke, especially as they are pumping money in to the all important tourist industry.

Now do you see any other nation behaving in this way?

Do you want to hear some stories about drunk Poles on the tube in London?

Life / Polish Driving Licence. [314]

Hmm - I think you can still buy a drivers license in Poland if you know the appropriate people.

Quite depressingly this same license allows you to drive in the UK. Which is an utter joke imo.

Polish people in the Uk on the otherhand are more than upto scratch on having a good time and are all to eager to leave the sit, be quite in a bar and mind your own business mentality back in Poland.

Maybe when they return home, they can teach the native Poles that being loud and enjoying yourself isn't a crime, and that there is nothing wrong with having fun as long as you don't break the law.

just a thought.

agreed. but making racial steretypes lead to resentment.

I've just come back from a stag do in Budapest, I got very drunk, was loud (at times) but showed complete respect to everyone I met. I also spent £700 (which incidentally would have been about £350 had I been Hungarian).

My judgement comes from living in Krakow for the past 2 years, and being embarrassed by the Brits coming here.

The same Brits that spend a lot of money?

Look, if you suggest that banning Brits from bars/pubs/clubs in Krakow based on their nationality is acceptable then you should also advocate banning Poles living in London from using the tube, based on my experience of living here for 25 years.

Write something intelligible. I haven't a clue what you are referring to.

She was visiting family and made that particular observation. Frankly, I couldn't give a **** whether you agree with her or not.

Now play nice treacle ;)

Because most British tourists are drunken baffoons

That would be the equivalent of me saying that all Poles are drunken thieving, disrespectful sex offenders....

But I wouldn't dream of making such an ill-informed and racially prejudice assertion.

It would, but it's not the case

According to my g/f (who has just returned from Krakow) it is.

Discriminating againstloud mouth drunks, thats all. Pub owners prefer to keep their customers happy, not watch them all dissapear after a group of stags come through the door.

The loud mothed drunks are the customers. Like I said, it's like having your cake and eating it. Why else would anyone visit Krakow/Budapest/Prague? I don't know people (whether on a stag do or not) who have been refused entry from the latter two places, solely for being a loud-mouthed Brit who just wants to enjoy themselves.

Should Poles be refused the right to use the underground in London? After all, all I want to do is travel to/from work in peace.

Your problems getting served in bars does not imply wholesale discrimination against Brits.

No, the problem most British tourists have getting seved in bars implies wholesale discrimination.

Hope that Helps.

Talk about having your cake and eating it!!

If Poland wants an economic boost from tourists then it has to deal with the consequences.

If Britain wants cheap migrant labour, it has to deal with the consequences.

I'm not about to start moaning about the hundreds of Poles of who show very little respect for the rules of the underground in London.

My g/f has just got back from her home town (Krakow) and she explained to me that many Brits are being refused entry to clubs there. This is a joke and is nothing short of racial discrimination.

It wouldn't happen in Britain which I guess is why most people would rather live here.
