UK, Ireland / Polak moving to north-west England [56]

Or more specifically, Greater Manchester/Cheshire.

Is this a good place for a Polak to live or is there a lot of anti-Polish hatred, etc?

Also is it good place to buy Polish food/products/newspapers, and is there a well-attended Polish Catholic community anywhere? Sorry, but I don't know that part of the country very well, and most Google searches return information about London and not so much for outside. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Language / Difference between Polish Ł and English W [23]

Yeah, we've noticed. Bloody Russians.

I do not like the Polish ł

Maybe you would be happier writing in Czech then, hlupák

Travel / Your favourite Polish region/city, etc [32]

Dolny Śląsk, without a doubt. With Wrocław as my joint-favourite city. I just find the people in that region to be the friendliest and most able to have a good laugh with.

By the way, I still don't get what all the fuss is about regarding Kraków - sure, it's an attractive city; but to me, it just feels so... soulless and unfriendly.

Maybe everyone is sick of all the English tourists, I don't know. But there are usually just as many in Wrocław or Warszawa, but the people are much nicer in both those cities, so I can't explain the reason.

I expect I'll get lots of hate-mail for saying this though. :)

would advise if you want to live in South Manchester, head for Didsbury, much nicer and safer

Thanks.

I've heard of some "ghetto" areas of Manchester, I just don't know the good areas are to the south side of the city, lol.

I've done a few searches, and an area apparently known as the "Four Heatons" seems to suit my lifestyle and budget. ;)

I'm not "going back" anywhere. You're not Polish though, are you? So maybe YOU should go back to where you came from - especially as you don't even seem to like the place!

Love / Polish boyfriends [77]

How come it's OK to post stuff like this on here?

Imagine if it said....

hi. I am english and have just split up with my Black boyfriend because of cultral differences. What do you Whites think?

Not so PC now is it?

How come so much bigotry towards Poles is acceptable on a so-called POLISH site? What's the agenda here?

again going back my assss

And if all the Poles leave, you know who will replace them, don't you?

But I expect that the Angole would prefer that, anyway... Empire guilt, etc.

Love / Polish boyfriends [77]

they are merely conveying their personal experiences and not suggesting that all Polish guys are bad.. so get down off your rocking horse.

the stuff which is written on here says NOTHING about what I know about Poles, yet this forum seems to be full of non-Poles who have met one or two bad apples, and seem to enjoy tarring us all with the same brush!!! So don't be surprised that I'm upset! This wouldn't be tolerated on black/asian/leftie boards, so why here? What's the deal?

However you are correct about te PC thing, but really i hate PC you should be allowed to say black, Polish or whatever, without over touchy people taking offense to a simple statement of fact, don't you agree??

Agree. All this "only whites can be racist" stuff the lefties in the UK love to go on about is nonsense, imo.

I wouldn't take it all to heart but mearly as just a few peoples points of view

ok lol

How rude!

well, that's "my" experience; I'm not claiming that ALL English are like that, of course... there are a few nice ones. Even in the south. ;)

I suppose your opinion/experience is based on how things were 20 years ago... as always. There is most definitely Pole-hating in England, trust me on this.

England is quite multi racial and I would have thought that the Poles would fit in more than the Muslim communities

True, but there has never been a time when 200 000 Muslims came over every year for five years in a row, their number is higher but growth has been more gradual. And most were born here.

In fact, would an Englishman even recognize the Polish Language as being polish?

It's not just the language, it's the way they look/behave as well. And as the dominant "Eastern" European ethnic group in London, they aren't difficult to spot.

But let's face it, spoken Polish hardly sounds like French, Italian or Spanish. If I can tell the difference between someone speaking Urdu and another speaking Arabic, I'm sure an English person can tell the difference between Polish and French speakers.

Language / "sorry" instead of "przepraszam" [76]

I hate to admit it, but I agree too!

Though it starts before you even take off for Poland - "boarding jest skończone" indeed!
lol :D

Genealogy / strange Polish mixes [116]

I said in my intro post that I'm half Polish, half Mexican. People always tell me what a unique mix that is. (I've never met anyone else who is also Polish and Mexican.) How about any of you? Is anyone half Polish, if so what else are you?

Parents and grandparents Polish, but some Jewish and probably some Czech from great-grandparents and beyond... which makes me pretty much Polish, but clearly not 100% and probably not even 90%, possibly about 70-80% at a guess. This is well demonstrated by my non-Polish appearance. I was once told by someone in lower Silesia that my surname probably has Czech as well as Polish origins, so who knows. As long as I'm not German or Russian I don't care either way... :)

Life / Greatest Polish Films [22]

Przesłuchanie, Plac Zbawiciela, Człowiek z marmuru, Człowiek z żelaza, Rh+, Seksmisja.

With the exception of the latter, all quite serious. I do like funnier/lighter films too, though. Nigdy w życiu!, Kariera Nikosia Dyzmy, Superprodukcja and Dlaczego Nie! have been notable recent favourites. It's not a film, but I wish someone would put "Trzy po trzy - Numery z kwatery" out on DVD, because that show always makes me PMSL when I watch it :-)

Language / Polish Proficiency Test [14]

somebody actually took the test :) awesome :)

yup!

You are at the Advanced level

and so I should be. :)

test quite good, but, as i know polish, there are three or four mistakes

I was thinking that, too. There are several questions which could have more than one answer as well.

Language / Polish Proficiency Test [14]

now give me an English test like this and I'll score 10-20%, I'm afraid

I'm sure that a lot of native English speakers wouldn't do much better. :)

UK, Ireland / Catholic church experience for Poles in England [22]

They didn't buy the BMW or the tea & biscuits. They stole them. Because the Poles are all thieves, right? Unlike the honest Russians, of course...

opefully as the population becomes more and better educated, the church and its hold will diminish

After which, we all know which religion will take over. Poland beware! Don't become like the UK!
