While it appears that Horse Racing in Poland is non-existant. Here in America, where horse racing is becoming non-relevant, the biggest race of the year is this Saturaday; the Kentucky Derby. I do some ameteur handicapping and my favorite for the race is a pony named "Pyro," althought the poll positions aren't fixed yet (they're happening as I type this) so all this is moot. However, this Saturday being an important day for Poland as well, I'm looking forward to sitting back with a vodka and watching the race. Cheers!

I live in one of the most ethnically diverse areas of Los Angeles. A few blocks from Compton a few blocks from the barrio. I see everyday the positive element that immigrants bring to this country and to themselves. I strongly support immigrant business (evenly with American businesses). If I don't know what I'm talking about I'm not sure how.

I am struggling to understand your argument. You said that illegals throw all their money back to Mexico and that is patenly false. That's what I said wasn't true. Over 20 billion dollars came into America in the last 8 years because of illegal immigrants. I agree with you that the illegal situation is a burden on the health care system but that isn't what you were talking about above. Illegals (who pay taxes, by the way, the same taxes that go to that health care system) pose no threat to you, I can assure you. If I'm wrong, please tell me, specifically, what you, RockyMason, has had to give up, or sacrifice because of the immigrant "problem." America makes nearly 200 billion dollars a year from immigrants, illegal or otherwise. And in a generation these people are fully contributing American citizens (withen 10 years 3/4s of immigrants, illegal or otherwise speak English fluently). If the demonstrations yesterday in downtown LA taught us nothing, it is that immigrants are a giant group, a group that is making money for America.

As we've gotten off topic, I'll say that while I know less about the Polish immigration to England, in what I've read and researched it reminds me socially a lot of the backlash against Mexican and Latino immigrants in the States. Obviously, the geopolitical landscape is different across the pond but if the similarities are there, its a bunch of brouhaha over nothing.

You don't HAVE to give up you're ability to feel safe. You choose to distrust people. You choose to call people animals. You choose to be blind to the facts. We can trade statistics, but everybody knows that numbers can be twisted to fit one's needs. For example; you say that illegals pushed your friends Dad out of business when it was the competitor who cheated not the illegals. I don't care if we agree on the immigration issue, it's clear that we don't. But you ask for credibility while you call human beings animals. You say I make unsubstantiated claims and yet I have not treated anyone as if they were guilty until proven innocent. You ask for what part of LA I live in when I've already told you. I don't want to change your mind because I'm clearly not going to. But you say these things and you don't ask why. You look at these things (the link between crime and undocumented immigration) and you don't think about reasons. You watch things on TV and don't question them. Use your brain, push for answers, open your mind.

My grandfather, Alvin Renkoski, fought in Europe during World War II. He fought for America and didn't do any fighting in Poland but he was in a regiment that was mostly made up of American children of Polish immigrants (like himself). All of the soldier's parents could only read in Polish and none of the soldiers could write in Polish except for Papa. So my Granddad would take dictation of all the soldiers to write letters in Polish to their parents back in Missouri, USA. He died a few years back and that story is the principle reason I'm learning Polish right now. After he passed only my Babcia can speak it, and no one in my family can read it or write it. I'm doing what I can to see that Polish doesn't die in the Renkoski family here in the States.

Listen, Poland fielded its side with nothing but Polish citizens. If America discounted any athlete with foriegn roots, we wouldn't have much of a trophy case, now would we? From what I understand, Poles have a warm but complicated relationship with Lithuania. Together, the two countries formed one of the most powerful nations in Europe and now, they scarcely have anything to do with each other. There is some bitterness becuase some Poles saw Lithuania deserting them and hitching their wagon to Russia, but all and all, I'd say Poles have a deep respect for Lithuania, as their histories intertwine so.
