History / Russia tells teachers to lie to students about "Katyn" [139]

I don't know if you find the term 'Jap's' offensive or not, if you do i'm sorry its just what the short version of 'japanese' is in the UK. Sometimes even they are referred to as 'Nips' i.e. the 'Nipon Army' or 'SUper Nipon' football team. I was always told when i was younger the term 'nip' was offensive however the Japs seem to use it themselves???

Depends on who you ask. For me not really. But for many it was term used by the allies to demean the Japanese in the time of war. Similar to krauts I guess. To be honest I prefer Japs to yellow or chinks. If your talking to Japanese however I wouldn't call them that. They have a real thing with respect, whether it's them giving or receiving. So you might **** them off, but Japanese being the way they are wouldn't actually let you know it.

History / Russia tells teachers to lie to students about "Katyn" [139]

It pretty much put an end to the war and the blurred views of the Japs that they could rule the world

Ironically I had family members die in those bombings, yet was born in the country that did it. I still always find that reasoning a bit off in my opinion. Kill a bunch of people that were no threat to anyone. The difference though is Japanese for the most part don't hold a grudge. Neither do I. It was a messed up world back then. Pretty much all sides were guilty of these kinds of atrocities.

Or maybe we should teach all American children twisted versions of history as long as we look like hero's?

You mean like reasoning the murder of 100,000's of Japanese with the dropping of the A bombs with, "It saved lives".

Food / Frozen uncooked shrimp in Krakow? [3]

Carefour in the Galeria Krakowska does sell fresh shrimp. However they don't normally carry a lot of it. They also have frozen shrimp there as well in the seafood counter. I'm not so sure your going to find bagged frozen shrimp.

Real Estate / Letting agencies Krakow [11]

Actually there are plenty of foreign students who speak english. You can even write the ad in english. You will get a response. To each their own, but those agencies are crap most of the time. If you must use one of these agencies, take your own photos and give them a cd to use. I'm not sure what kind of moron thinks a person that wants to lease has any interest of how the corner of the room looks connected to the wall. Believe it or not most photos of places to rent or sell that the agencies take look pretty much like that.

Real Estate / Letting agencies Krakow [11]

Why not just post on gumtree.pl

Those letting agencies are just scams. Honestly most of those people have no clue as to what they are selling. Find a lawyer to write your lease contract and deal with the tenants on your own.

Real Estate / Is it normal that property companies ask you for a payment for services? [9]

Yes the commission or finders fee from the agencies is standard practice in Poland. Funny thing is most of these agencies don't have the slightest clue of what they are selling. Looking for flats for rent, you'd be amazed how many of these "agents" never had even been to the place before.

Travel / Flights to Krakow from Leeds, Bradford, or Doncaster [17]

Krakow and Katowice have two different airports. Krakow is about an 1 1/2 hours by train from Katowice. However the airport in Katowice is outside the city, another 30 minutes minimum by bus just to get to the city of Katowice.

News / POLAND TO SIGN US MISSILE SHIELD DEAL TONIGHT [239]

Why do you feel Russia is upset with Poland protecting herself, do they have this right and in fact they give there "anti missle shield to Iran" and it's ok as long as they pick who gets it?

Yet this has nothing to do with protecting Poland.

Life / HEAT IN POLAND (with no air-condition) [26]

I agree. When I lived there our power bill was ridiculous because of the AC. Living in Poland it really shows how wasteful we are in the States.

Life / XBOX LIVE in Poland? [13]

Depends on where your credit card is from. I live in Krakow, but I pay for xbox live with an American card. I don't think it's setup to use a Polish card. However at Empik you can buy the prepaid xbox live cards. They tend to be more expensive then paying by card though.

Travel / How do i stay in poland longer than 90 days if im already in poland [37]

I am American by the way, I would just make sure that if you plan on leaving Poland you get some legal papers but if you plan on staying in PL until you go back to the states, according to my buddy the director, you should be safe.

First off, don't trust anyone. Half them don't have a clue. Most will tell you one thing, and the next person another. Sure they might let you in, but there is no guarantee. Another thing is that although the polish authorities might not care, other countries will. It's your risk really, but I wouldn't chance it.
