History / Jews...and their Polish experience [520]

The corruption does ring true and makes sense. But it also caused products of inferior quality and higher price. If I offered an offical 10000 dollars to buy from me. He would by my product even that it could be of worse quality and higher price because Im giving him money.

Im also not an expert on the cuban system, but I imagine it can't be that much different. Im assuming the fundementals are the same. That comment about Russia being federalists I agree that was also a contributing factor to the collapse. However I believe SU collpse had mostly to do with economy but also because of ideology and several other factors such different cultures.

History / Should Germany claim to be the victims in Poland? [510]

Bubba I can laugh when something is actually funny. If you tell me a stupid unfunny joke and I don't laugh. does that mean I have no sense of humour. No it just means the joke is stupid or the person telling the joke is stupid and in this case both. Lol see I have a sense of humour

Lesser that's a good point no reason to bribe because lack of competition. But lack of competition doesn't mean no competition. You had several mining, automobile, shipbuilding, and energy company's. Some where favored more then others depending on the desires of the kremlin. This is where the bribes took place. So a company would offer a bribe so it would be favored. but it doesn't matter because I think we both agree SU collapsed because of economy and ideallogy and several smaller factors.

We have black humor. But their are limits and some Taboo. Out of respect for the victims or those still suffering. What's more important you having a good laugh or having a person not having to suffer from your joke. I guess in other parts of the world we don't have a shortage of jokes where we need to laugh about every single subject. If its k in Britain that's fine however your on a Polish forum so be a little more sensitive to other cultures.

Better way I guess for me to state it their was lack of competition inside the satallite countries but their was competition between the satallites of USSR to be favored by the kremlin because the kremlin chooses the distribution of work and food and other resources. However back to my original point SU collapsed because they only invested all their resources on the military and with their weak economy and not taking other industries into account led to their downfall.

Humour I get it, everybody likes humour. Its great that britons can laugh and move on. But like you said sometimes a little common sense is required. Whatever though its not a big deal as long as theirs no holocust jokes on a Polish forum. Exception would be if its a terribly funny joke and I doubt one exists. But you can try.

I don't even know how we got on this subject my main concernwas SU collapse had a lot to do with military spending and the economy was not developed like in the west to handle it.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Isthatu I totally agree with your position on Stalin. As for Constantine no one said people pray to him. But you can't deny their is a sizeable number that see him as the best leader Russia had. How short is the Russian memory. If that statement is true I feel sorry for the Russian people. To me its like the Germans saying hitler is the best leader they ever had. its illogical. Southern please explain why Russia closes such institutions.

I know what your saying. I know a couple cool Russians. But I learned not to discuss those issues. One thing you must admit they are patriotic(not always a good thing I hope you understand what I mean)

For those who are complaining poles are taking your jobs. Get a fuc*en education. It is you who are doing your country a dis-service. With global competition these days a knowledge economy is a must to survive. So if you love your country do something to improve it instead of blaming Poles.

Love / Polish girlfriends family, they want me to become Catholic. [20]

First your not dating her parents but her. If she is okey with it then you have a great girlfriend that accepts you for who you are. I would never ever convert for anybody if I didn't really believe in the religion Im converting to. I guess for you to feel better then take some time, see what the religion is all about and see if it agrees with you. If you are religious what's more important pleasing your girlfriends parents or GOD. Its great that you don't want to be a cause of tension between her and her parents but its her parents being unreasonable. Im Chatholic by the way and I wouldnt want you to convert if you don't believe.

Just thought of something though. Talk to them or have your girlfriend talk to them and see why its important to them. I say this because maybe they think your planning on taking more then one wife or that your not going to treat her as an equal. If that was my daughter I wouldn't put up with that **** either. I guess to me its not that your muslim but how extreme you are in your faith. Talk to them because if that's what they think and its not your intention then you can come to an agreement.

Constantin we are talking about JP2 not the whole Church. Like were talking about Stalin not Russia. Name me one death JP is responsible for?

To compare the pope with Stalin is STUPID in every sense of the word. Did you think someone was gonna eat the sh*t your trying to feed them.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Nowbody in Russia idealizes the personality of these statemen, but in the same time all of us realise that their existance was necessary for Russian state. I find that comment very intelligent.

Because sometimes even things that are bad in the end can do some good(rarely). Example Kaczynski was always starting fights in EU. But now countries of EU are much more appreciative of people like Tusk and willing to work with him so kaczynski doesn't get voted back. I know It also has to do Tusks approach but its a combination of both things. I have other more extreme examples if need be.

I am not an expert on Russia so I can't talk about anything prior to WW2. I leave that to others. However what Stalin did was not for the future good because in the end the economy of SU collapsed, setting you back 20 years. He advanced a worthless cause. He killed millions and nothing good came out of it.

Gouz I couldn't agree with you more. Religion should not be used to control someone but to help someone.

Also to that parent question. Me personally I want my daughter to marry a Roman Catholic. Sure that's a natural feeling. But in the end I really don't care. If he treats her right and makes her happy that's all that matters. Ill get used to it and Im willing to get used to it. Sure maybe with some hesitation. Maybe her parents feel like that to, you just need to show them this relationship is serious and your here to stay.

Fairness and equality, nothing more important. Im sure it will take some getting used to for them but you will get them to like you

Paczka you must be a historian. lol
Yes you liberate by killing your own people. Great analysis.
Celinski and Isthatu said it best so no reason for me to add anything.
I guess the reason for this post is to express my laughter at your comment.

Correction Stalin killed Russians so yeah he did kill his own people, wasn't talking about Poland.

Yes from the point of the 30 communists that existed in Poland. That's like saying Hitler was trying to liberate Poland because of that 1 Nazi living in Krakow. Good Point lol

History / Poland - Russia Russians ready for discussion about history ? [105]

kasprzyk.demon.co.uk/www/WW2.html

This a great depiction of events that occured during WW2. It it great Russia is willing to work to repair this relationship. However their should be more countries involved in this endeavor. Our enemies and Allies in WW2. This is something that must be reconciled for all of us to move into the future.

Highly Recommend Article

History / Poland - Russia Russians ready for discussion about history ? [105]

the discussion has been going on for 60 maybe you can tell us bratwurst where those discussions took place. lol russia denied katyn for almost 50 years. The allies also don't discuss their mistakes. I lived in US and I can definatly say their version of ww2 is scewed. they make it seem they saved the world. so don't tell me there has been an honest discussion.

History / Poland - Russia Russians ready for discussion about history ? [105]

Constantine you brought up are greeks mad at italians. that happened centuries ago everybody is dead. however ww2 and commmunism just happened and many people who witnessed these crimes are still alive. their is a difference. if you don't see that something is wrong with you.

in addition another difference. italians didn't deny what happened. where russia denied it for 50 years . to this day the whole truth of ww2 is distorted in some countries. its time to set the record straight. is that to much to ask?

constantine here is an exert from an article on the katyn film found on economist that came out today.

Astonishingly, some in Russia are now reviving the lie that the murderers at Katyn were not by the NKVD, but the Nazis. That was maintained during the communist era, but only by punishing savagely those who tried to tell the truth. Last year, as Mr Wajda's film opened in Poland, a commentary in a Russian government newspaper, Rossiiskaya Gazeta, dismissed the evidence of Soviet involvement in Katyn as "unreliable"

so as you can see the issue is relevant. Russians are cowards and can't face what they did.

History / Poland - Russia Russians ready for discussion about history ? [105]

freedom of speech in Russia is a rarity. However, in this case for whatever reason Russia made the right choice. so it is a good sign. they need to build up on this and continue with these trust building measures. this should not be enough, its only the first step russia needs to take.

I guess its still premature to discuss the outcome of polish russian relations at this time, but it appears its heading in the right direction. Lets hope this continues.

BTW history is not most important to poles.

No one said it was there are much more urgent issues, however I mentioned it because this is the question of the thread I was answering.

K paszka I understand what ur saying, who do they think the USSR was liberating in Poland. if they think polish communists that's dumb because there were barely any. that's like saying Nazi Germany was trying to liberate because of the 10 Polish Nazis in Poland. that's not liberation if they think that that's dumb no way you look at it. I can offer a more detailed example if need be.
