News / Polish people reactions towards the last elections in Poland [59]

I liked the way the present President stood up to Russia and was making the ones that killed so many accountable for their actions. I was born in the USA but my father was in eastern Poland and sent to Siberia. My Grandfather started fighting when he was 15 years old and in the end after Anders Army in WWll he lost his country. I pray the new powers continue to demand respect.

To speak to what USA feels toward Polish, hard workers, stand up for themselves, always helping other countries. Hopefully I will come visit and see the beauty of Poland soon.

Genealogy / Maria Lochka's family (my Grandmother) [4]

Looking for family of Maria Lochka Celinski. DOB 16 Nov. 1900 /Married 10 Feb. 1923. I believe Maria had one brother Yanek 2 or 3 sisters Hanka, Marinka and Zoshia/Sofia. I was told her family lived down in a valley from her home in Lewkowce near Pochiav. They lived in two houses next to each other. More recently I was told they moved to a city called Gorodok after 1940. My family tree on her side is all but empty and I can't seem to find them. Does anyone know if Lochka is Polish, White Russian, Ukrainian? I must find her family and fill in the missing pieces of my history? Thank you in advance for any suggestions or help. Genealogy / Family Pictures of loved ones in Poland [21]

I thank God they were able to take pictures. If not for this I would never have been able to view a beautiful 3 year old uncle who died in Siberia concentration camp. This is also making a big come back in the USA.

History / Pre war Polish land owned by my grandfather - where can I find the maps? [20]

My grandfather Polish/Roman Catholic recieved the land after fighting on the front line Ebi. It was his land. The land was not the hard part it was the price they paid in my grandmother, two aunts and one uncle's lives. The uncle was 3 years old in Siberia.

History / Katyn- forgiven and forgotten? [111]

Katyn must never be forgotten. My family who trusted Russia went to meet and fight with them only to have Polands "unarmed" men's hands tied behind their backs and shot in the head. Never has this world had to face such a barbaric situation. Polands front line from WWl woken in the night (Feb. 1940) as they slept with their family. Again "unarmed" farmers on reserve in eastern Poland. Taken to box cars and used in concentration camps as forced labor. Forgive means Russia needs to take full responsability and restitution to the families they destroyed. Poland was silenced to speak of this for far to long. Russia must understand the victims and their families remember and now cannot be forced into silence.

Note: I do not blame the present Russians for the sins of their fathers. At the same time it is them that have to clean up their fathers messes. They will be the better people for this and show the world they care. To not do so will leave many feeling they accept past actions. And healing, trust and respect will fail to grow.

History / World War II - a tragic story for Poland and the World [489]

What to me is amazing is wwll how major powers went after "Unarmed" Polish and killed or put in concentration camps. Lets see eastern Poland, WW1's front line top men in (farmers) reserve. No guns as they were not needed. Feb. 1940, Wake them up in the middle of the night take them and wife, children at GUN point to box cars for slave labor in Siberia. What about the ones not sent to Siberia. Middle of the night SS Ukraine can brutly massacre, barbaric torture and loot and burn whats left. Or they could act like they are going to work together and take "Unarmed" to Katyn and tie hands behind back and shot them. Then blame Germany. Germany was busy with the rest of Poland. But come on UNARMED.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

In USA I am respected for being a strong Polish lady. I think it all depends on the person and Hate is a strong word to begin with. I try not to hate anything...well maybe lima beans.

Genealogy / Do Polish people search for family that were deported to another country? [11]

Polish people that departed were busy starting over in new country. If you recall they did not get government assistance. Calling a communist country from a free country to search for missing family is not what you may think. Most of the family was dead to begin with and even the ones living in Ukraine or Russia could not get over the boarder to keep in touch. I am from the first generation born in USA. For me not speaking Polish is difficult now let alone prior to 89 when records were hidden. My grandfather started fighting when he was 15 to have a free Poland at 51 after fighting in Anders Army and then under the British command only to be betrayed and lose his fight for freedom, you are right he said goodbye to his homeland he loved.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Maybe things would improve if Russia took responsibility for Katyn and eastern Poland being sent to concentration camps. From what I read the Polish that could not get out of Siberia are not treated today as equals.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

In order to heal and start fresh history must be dealt with. Germany has admitted to and continues with restitution and this is the differance.

I think Polish people deserve the truth in history. Families paid the highest price and the ones that lived to tell at last can speak. This is not just from Russia but also from SS Ukraine. I am in the USA and read the rewritten history knowing the truth.

My father was 7 when they were deported and is not getting younger. He deserves the truth and other to say we are so sorry. His mother, two sisters and one brother lost their lives. Something like that will not be forgotten. Forgiveness starts with the truth. When this takes place trust can be built.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Quoting: El Gato
Why are people still arguing about whether Poland or Russia is the better country? Makes no sense to me.

This is not who is better it is about taking responsability for past actions so that a foundation can be built on solid ground. My Polish people were unarmed farmers sleeping at home with their families and in Feb. 1940 they were taken to a concentration camp in Siberia to be treated worse than dogs. Ones that were not deported were attacked by SS Ukraine and tortured. Is it to much for me to ask Russia to tell the truth and I am sorry for what happened. As for the SS they recieved a free ride to England and have never answered to war crimes commette. No this is not about who is better.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

financial times about Russia ...

Lukasz, OMG thank you for the link I had to wonder if it's something in the water in Russia. Is Putin acually thinking no one can see right through him. Then again why not he hasn't had to answer for what he did to Poland 1939-45, so why not.

"The rest we know all too well. The Molotov-Ribbentrop Treaty that paved the way for Hitler to start the World War, and the Soviet invasion of Poland on September 17, 1939, executed under the pretense of "protecting the oppressed minorities." Stalin went the same way that had been inaugurated five centuries earlier by Ivan III: again, deportations that wasted 1.5 million Polish lives (of these, 0.5 million perished in the Siberian and Kazakh labor camps); then the Katyn murders totaling 23,000 people, the elite of the Polish patriotic intelligentsia, killed on a single order; then, after a short period of cooperation with the Polish government-in-exile, cooperation which was forced on Stalin by the unexpected German invasion, preparations to install a new Russian (this time Soviet) party in Poland. A new Targowica group could be recruited only among the communists. But Stalin knew that he had to break the neck of the Polish society first to make it acquiesce to the new Russian-Soviet domination. His communist clients, whom he used to enslave Poland, knew it even better."

Please don't let it start again. After reading your link all could think of was how important it is for Russia to be held accountable for what happened to Poland in 1939-45. Accountablity and taking responsabilty are the ingrediants needed to show Putin it will not be repeated. To not do this leaves him to believe it can be repeated. Maybe the time is at hand for a world of viewers to tell Putin step back and concern himself within his own boarders. Many voices make light work. Carol Celinska Dove

History / Anyone know 88 Helena Wolinska masterminding execution of Gen Fieldorf? [15]

So many free to never take responsabilty from Russia and SS Ukraine yet who is this 68 year old lady and was she really given the power they say? Could she be a scape goat that had no choice but go along in order to live? I really don't know and thats why I am asking who she is and what happened? Thanks, Carol

An extract from Daily Mail 21 Nov 2007_

Widow of 88 who has lived in the UK for years is facing a trial and
being arrested and taken back to Poland over her involvement in the
death of
Gen. Emil Fieldorf.

Helena Wolinska is accused of being a signatory on a execution warrant
during the Communist era after WW2. Having escaped from a train taking
her to Treblinka she joined Communist Peoples Guard fighting the German
occupation. After the war she was involved in purges of non-Communist
resistance fighters. She is accused of masterminding the trial and
execution of Gen Fieldorf, head of the Home Army and a National Hero in
Poland. He was tried on trumped up charges of killing Soviet soldiers
and Communist Anti Nazis in 1952 and was secretely hanged in 1953.

News / Yitzhak Shamir - prime minister of Israel with anti-polish sentiment [41]

I say, for shame on "Yitzhak". Name calling at his age, prime minister of Israel no less. I think of how I have felt inside when my President screws up (USA) and believe me, I know. I try to keep in mind what my father tells me of living side by side with the Jewish and Ukrainian people in eastern Poland (now Ukrainian) and never having a problem. That is until pitted against each other. It was your life or theirs provoked by higher powers. It was at this point that people changed into animalistic behavior.

In the US I do not distinguish and segregate my neighbors. I was taught we all cry, hurt, laugh and love the same. Maybe part of the problem is not enough people demanding a higher standard than the animals that we are told have no cerebral cortex.

History / Katyn- forgiven and forgotten? [111]

Ball yourselfs up in hate for long dead murderers and never move on,

isthatu, Yes it is I. No we do not "Ball yourself up in hate" and yes "Putin" should stand up like a man for his country and take responsibility (once and for all) and verbally let the history book show that Russians are sorry that their forefathers committed these atrocious actions. After this they could ask how they can seek a resolve that may defer this behavior from ever taking place again. Without Putin taking these actions can they be trusted or for that matter start a positive relationship. They not only killed "unarmed" men in "Katlyn", what about the killing and deportation to Siberia of the Polish. We also await the same. Guess that sucks for Putin.
