Life / St. Nicholas Day (Mikolajki) 6th December [12]

On St. Nicholas Day, December 6th, the youngsters are visited by Santa Claus (Sw. Mikolaj). In Poland, Sw. Mikolaj is not an oversized man with red pompom topped cap, red Jacket, and riding boots. Instead, he is a saintly, more dignified figure, dressed in the regal purple and gold robe, wearing a cape and bishops hat, and carrying a crosier (a crooked staff, the symbol of his bishop station). He travels the countryside on foot, occasionally astride a white horse, blessing the children, and distributing goodies to well behaved children and swishes (rozgi) to the naughty. Sw. Mikolaj does not live at the North Pole, but up in Heaven.

December sixth, St. Nicholas day — Dzien Swietego Mikolaja — brought a slight reprieve to gray monotonous days, especially to children, who felt that the Christmas Gwiazdka (star) - would never come. St. Nicholas was revered because of his compassion and love for orphans whom he often visited and comforted with little gifts. His name is celebrated more in some Central European countries than is Christmas itself.

I don't think this happens in England so much now- Is this celebrated in any special way in Poland??

History / WW2: Britain Declares War on Germany to Save Poland [290]

Yeah England the greatest country in the world - ya right the fact of the matter is England let Poland down when they needed us.

Ok Helping us in what way??

Polish Pilots were helping themselves and avenging their loved ones. At the time we could use the pilots nothing else.

Helping us PLEASE!!

And do not disrespect the role polish pilots played in the Battle of Britain because you have no idea how the britsh govament treated them after the war. If it had not been for the Polish piolts and piolet from other nation we would of lost the Battle of Britain

There are always two side to a story Wroclaw Boy, you need to study both sides maybe then you would not talk the rubbish you are posting on this subject

the best way to get to kudowa would be going on a bus (journey takes abt 3 hrs), a train takes much longer abt 4 hrs. There are several direct buses to Kudowa Zdróh during the day e.g. at 10:40, 13:30 15 : 50, 16:50, 18:40. there is a few more and i'm sure in morning hours. fro mthe main bus stop in Kudow it would take you abt 45 min walking there.

Ive read somewhere that you r interested in Chopin. i dont know if you heard about place Duszniki Zdroj, in the town on way to Kudowa (20 min before Kudowa). There every year takes places International Chopin Festival and there is Chopin Spa Theatre and monument.

Travel / Need suggestions for things to do in Wroclaw and Krakow - August [6]

In relation to the recommendation of Lori I would suggest going to the Salt Mine with the whole family. I would suggest a tour on the bus around Krakow, visit to the Zoo (zoo-krakow.pl) or Aqua Park (parkwodny.pl/eng/index.php) Towards summer there will more information about children's attractions and activities going around Krakow.
