Kapuscinski is an author of great travel books, he wrote very good ones about Russia (which is called "Empire", not quite sure about the title in English) and Africa, he has very good knowledge of countries he discribes and a lot of sense of humour, just try it!

Yeah, I think it's possible to buy them in English cause Kapuscinski is known not only in Poland, also in Germany and in some other European countries. I reckon his books should be available in English, too.

So how about problems with organising the gay parade in Warsaw a year ago when L. Kaczynski was the mayor of Warsaw (he's now the president but he comes from PiS) ? Or W. Wierzejski (from LPR which is now in coalition with PIS) comparing homosexuals with pedophiles or simply criminals (yep, he said it once) ???
I'm not lesbian or sth I am just trying to know what's THE PROBLEM? Cant we just live in a country where people are normal and tolerant???
I am not talking about concrete actions taken by the government or PiS and parties in coalition with PiS, I am just talking about the atmosphere they create and the opinions they express in the media, do you like it???

Hanke, it happens not only in Poland with foreigners, i am Polish, and when i was studying in France i was sometimes paying more for some services coz i was a foreigner, that was really annoying, some companies should simply realise such practices damage their image...

probally agree that real estate in Warsaw/Krakow is worth looking into.. but keep in mind if you were forced to sell you may not recover what you have invested.

UK, Ireland / The Problem i have with Culture Differences (UK + Polish) [32]
No, the Polish are not generally unhappy, they just like to complain, that's a very Polish thing, and although I don't like complaining and try to avoid it , I am catching myself doing it from time to time, too.
I can't actually say much about English culture as I am living in Ireland but I see a lot of differences between Irish and Polish people. The Irish are more outgoing, open and more eager to talk to strangers. They generally trust other people more. They're much better at socializing. I don't know why we are so distanced and shy sometimes, really...
Your girlfriend probably calls some of your friends "fake" as there is a small difference in asking "How are you?" in Ireland/UK than in Poland. If a Polish person asks a question in Poland he/she usually expects a longer answer, and that's the way it works. It's not just "How are you?", " I am ok, thanks" thing as here. And in Poland it's not that you ask "how are you" everyone you meet on the street, it's generally related to people you know a bit. That's why "how are you" in Ireland/UK seems a bit fake for Polish people: if you ask everyone and are satisfied with few words answer, it looks like you were actually not caring about it at all. BUT, after some time spent in Ireland I wouldn't say that, I think it's just a cultural difference which doesn't necessary mean Irish/English people are fake or sth.

Love / A flying Dutchmen..deep in the Polish forest..... [34]
I know what you're talking about Dutchman but I wouldn't spend 7 years in forest, alone.
I need people around me, I hope not to filll the emptiness in my head but to share my life, interests, to laugh and bank on.
My trick not to get carried away by TV, Internet, people you don't really know but they appear in your life, career, money, buying loads of clothes, gadgets etc is to step back from time to time and ask yourself if this is really what you want or this is really the direction you're willing to go.
I read somewhere that you can compare your life to a bowl full of water, it's usually being moved very often and the water is moving aswell but to keep your life in balance you sometimes need to sit and calm down, go somewhere away from the noise of busy life. It's like you were letting the water quieten and stay clear so you could see in it like in your head what is really good/bad for you.
Or...maybe... I'm just talking rubbish ;) Take care
