History / MONSTERS AND DRAGONS OF POLAND...are there any...? [42]

Poland has LOTS of spirits and monsters, which come mainly from the slavic folklore. Other than the ones already mentioned there are -

Water spirits - Rusałka/Boginka (water nymph) Świtezianka (spirit of the Świteź river) Topielec/Utopiec ('drowner' - haunted corpse of a drowned man) and Wodnik/Wodianoj (water demon)

Forest spirits - Leszy (forest troll) Dusiołek ('strangler' a small, ugly creature which strangles people who fall asleep in the forest) Dziwożona (dryad) Leśny Dziadek ('forest gramps' looks like a harmless elder but is actually a cannibal with superhuman strength)

Field spirits - Południca (noonwraith - a creature which appears on a field at noon and hunts humans) there's also Północnica which appears at midnight

Other spirits - demons/devils Boruta and Rokita (Boruta haunts £ęczyca castle and is said to compete with Rokita) Płanetnik (spirit controling weather) Zmora (female demon killing people in their sleep) and Upiór (something between a ghost and a demon) Strzyga (flying monster which hunts humans) Żmij ('viper' good spirit in Poland, bad in other slavic countries) Dziki Gon (Wild Hunt) Chochlik (small demon which loves playing tricks on people) Kuroliszek (like a basilisk only half chicken) Cmentar (monster that appears in cemeteries where it diggs up peoples corpses and eats them)

News / Russia and Poland possibility of the alliance [75]

Poland has more economic and military ties with Israel than you think. In fact, we get more from them than from US. Good relations with Israel would definitely be beneficial for Poland (it IS a rich and influental country after all) however I agree that they would have to shut up about holocaust and that is rather unlikely. Especially since Poland has absolutely nothing to offer Israel.

Actually... Poland has nothing to offer ANYONE in terms of partnership. To powerful countries we're nothing more than pawns and we're too awesome for an allience with a week nation.

News / Russia and Poland possibility of the alliance [75]

The only military ties with Israel we have are SPIKE missiles.

And reinforced armored vehicles, free granade launchers, drones, cooperation between GROM and Israeli special forces, also who do you think upgraded the damaged aircrafts we got from US?

a country in the center of Europe through which 90% of all transitways come through, which is in position of political leverage towards its smaller neighbours who talk with it more readily than with Russia or the West has nothing to offer?

Other countries couldn't care less that Poland didn't exist for 123 years and was ruled by Russia by the next 50. Last time I checked it was Russia and Germany that were considered world powers not Poland. The reason why our smaller neighbours are interested in us is because they know that we have no way to completely take advantage of them. I do agree that our geopolitical position is our advantage but it won't be enough until our economical situation get's better and that will take some time. Mexico is exactly between US and ALL South American countries and yet it's far from rich. Isn't it funny how Poland get's called 'Mexico of Europe'?

Besides Russia and Germany already found a way to trespass Poland.

Bullcrap, Lithuania despite its size was a weak nation and from the alliance one of the greatest European powers in living history emerged

Go ask a lithuanian what they think about that alliance. Also go ask anyone what they think about that 'greatest European power in living history'.

a good example would be Israel treating US as its pawn despite huge disparity in power.

I wonder why would US allow itself to be treaed like a pawn by a weak, unimportant nation.
Also read what Sasha said about Poland and Belarus - that's what world powers think of us (well... I dare say our position is a bit higher but then again I'm a hopeless optimist)

Oh, God, this is getting ridiculous. Very well then - go on believing your crazy conspiracy theories. Go on believing that the whole world revolves around the great polish ass.

Let me just ask you one think - if jews are so keen on detroying other countries, then how come America, France, Germany and Great Britain which have large jewish communities are not wastelands but rich, modern countries? How come no french, german or american person protests?

History / Taras Bulba - the movie [115]

Maybe they just disliked the idea of their national hero professing his love and undying loyalty towards a different country?

Anyway, I just love russian movies about the big, bad poles. It means that they CARE.
Also it's awesome to see polish army strong and fearsome. And I like the sound of russian language. I'm definitely gonna see this movie.

significant part of the protesters are redneck anti-semites

You said it^^

basically good people and i doubt they'd support their leaders if they had knowledge of whats going around.

I may not agree with you in everything but with that sentence you significantly improved my opinion of you.

News / Non-Polish members - what knowledge does your country have about Poland? [35]

What is the general knowledge about Poland and polish history in your country? Particularly the situation before, during and after WWII. Do you learn about Poland in school? Do you know any famous poles? Is the view of polish people positive or negative when it comes to historical events?

News / Polish-Albanian relations [23]

Aw, come on! Don't be so mean.
But I must admit that most Poles would have trouble finding Albania on a map.
I didn't even know Albania was a muslim country...

News / THOUSANDS OF YOUNG ISRAELIS FLOODING POLAND [93]

McCoy is right about that. Some of my family members are Cracovia fans and I've heard a lot of songs about Cracovia. One of the lyrics went something like this "Go ahead and call me a Jew - its not a shame for me". They also sometimes call themselves 'Chosen Nation'.

Oh, I almost forgot about 'Jude Gang' who actually do call themselves Jews... although they are hooligans so I suppose it's not something Poles should be proud of...

Wow... now I realise what it must look like to a foreigner. All Israeli tourists should be informed about the meaning behind this graffiti...

News / THOUSANDS OF YOUNG ISRAELIS FLOODING POLAND [93]

Ela... you don't understand. What we mean is that 99% of anti-semitic graffiti in Poland is not directed against Jews but... "Jews". And most hooligans have problems with distinguishing one from another. I'm currently reading some sites of Wisła and Cracovia fans and judging from the comments most of them can't seem to tell a difference. For them all Jews are Cracovia fans and all Cracovia fans are Jews.

Plus, there's something called "Holy War". Cracovia has hooligans calling themselves 'Jude Gang', Wisła fans have recently gained nickname 'Hamas'.
Some of the comments -
"Po wsez czasy tylko Pasy !!!
wiśldcki psie pamiętaj o swoim policyjnym rodowodzie ___ waszą matką jest mILICJA !!!
Jestem za Cracovią, w takim razie "jestem" Żydem i się tego nie wstydzę!!! CRACOVIA FOREVER !!!" - loose translation - Stripes Forever! Remember your police roots Wisła dog - your mother is Milicja (communist police). I'm all for Cracovia and therefore I am a Jew and I'm not ashamed of it!!! CRACOVIA FOREVER !!!

"NO w kurwe...jaki antysemityzm...ja pierdole...każdy wie ze nie chodzi o rodowitych żydów,tlyko o te laski zza błoń... JEBAĆ ŻYDÓW!! TYLKO WIS£A!!" - What the ****... what anti-semitism... ****... everybody knows that it's not about nationality but those cracovia *******... **** JEWS!! ONLY WISłA!!

News / THOUSANDS OF YOUNG ISRAELIS FLOODING POLAND [93]

Cracovia fans head the list of most dangerous in Poland. They are responsible for a few deaths of their opponents over several years, stabbed with knives.

Wisła's Sharks and Devils also have quite an impressive body count... Sadly there are black sheep in every group of fans.

History / Jews...and their Polish experience [520]

I'm a polish girl who has grown up in the uk

Don't believe in everything you hear about Poland from the British.
Your post shows that you have completely zero knowledge about your own country, it's history and experiences. Jews had a far better life than Poles under the partitions and 88% of them didn't speak a word of polish. Were they 'poor' then?

Were we supposed to love them?

They have done nothing wrong, and yet to this day, after all the suffering they have endured, people still **** on them from a great height. Its disgusting!

The same can be said about Poles. Why are we always accused after all we've been through? But of course YOU know nothing about that.

untold cruelty that the poles inflicted upon the jew?

If it's so 'untold' then how come everybody talks about it? It just so happens that there were just as many massacres of Poles done by heroic, poor Jews.

Neither nation is blameless.

News / Krystian Zimerman's shocking Disney Hall debut [13]

I think americans need some geographical globes. Whoever came up with a shield in Poland must've been looking at a flat map if they didn't realise that Arabs can simply shoot their missiles in the opposite direction.

The issue of the missile base can be discussed in [U.S. Missile Base in Poland----Your thoughts?]

History / Polish Jews we are (Poles) proud of [30]

Historians have big doubts. Plus, he was a Catholic. He called Jews 'our older brothers in faith' which was later picked up by Pope John Paul II.
