Travel / Polish Customs (Odprawa Celna) [8]

Though apparently food tastes different from different places.

This is true. I'm from South Africa, and can vouch for that. You could rather bring butternuts for soup. It's cold here now. Miss butternut most of all ;)

Love / Are men more unhappy about being single than women [47]

I think you actually want to fall in love, but you are way too afraid to get hurt. So you build up a nice wall..?

Although this might be true, have you guys just ever thought that she might be young and clever, live single girl life to it's fullest before she might later on decide that no's the time for her - when she meets Mr Right, of course. I also believe there's one person for each one of us. If we give it time and live our life, love does come. For me it was also when I least expected it, and we fit each other like a glove :) I have also previously known nice guys, but in hindsight, none of them was as perfect. :)

Travel / Polish Customs (Odprawa Celna) [8]

Are you just travelling, or coming for a longer time?

What kinds of fruit did you have in mind? Not sure whether you would be allowed, but if you can tell what kinds, maybe we could put your mind at ease that you'll find some here?

Feedback / Today's Polish Name Day - New Feature [41]

I think this is a great idea. The imieniny fascinated me from the day I stepped foot onto Poland. My husband and I both adopted one closest to our names - won't tell you though.

Now it's time for another great idea:

SMILEYS!!!!!!!!

Life / What do Polish people usually do on Sunday? [40]

i know what i do on a sunday.......i spend the day trying to remember if i made a fool out of my self the night before.

How boring is that! See, if you don't have to try and remember, if you just know you did, then you can spend the whole sunday lauging about it, rather than tense yourself up about it? ;)

USA, Canada / Standards of Education in US vs Poland [22]

I've seen both first-hand, and in Poland it boils down to rote memorization of dry facts, while in the States you are pushed to analyze information and to draw conclusions from it. In Poland colleges produce a lot of walking encyclopedias who don't know how to use the information they have, unless they've learned how to do it on their own.

Hi Cyg. It's all fine and well to teach students to analyse and use the information that they have at hand.

Pytanie: Have you also seen the rise in reading and learning problems? If you start doing the analysing bit to soon, you neglect the most basic tools that people need to do the analysing bit - reading and math - which (slaughter me if you want) you can only teach them by drilling during primary school education.

So yes, you must teach them to analyse info and then be able to put it into practice, but the memorising tool (part of the basic reading and math skill thing) is equally important, and that is being looked over. Then we want to throw our hands up and ask why people cannot read and spell today...

Love / Why my Polish girlfriend's mother started to ignore me? [74]

The worst kind, heroin and crack, found out today she has discharged herself before treatment finished

You know that the first thing she'll do is go look for a fix, hey?

You obviously love her, but I think you should take Rakky, our favourite mushroom's advice. Go look after yourself, or you'll be desroyed with her.

She's detoxing - it might be time for you to find a support group for yourself. Check with your local Narcotics Anonymous groups to see if they can refer you to a group for friends and families of drug addicts. If you don't take care of yourself, you'll be a lot less useful to her.

The roads are better in Africa than Poland.

i never said the roads were better in africa

Hi Irishdeano. I have no idea how this happened. I was taking all the quotes from Coop's vomiting over Poland. It should have said 'quote Coop'.

I'm stunned. Can admin explain how this happened?

Apologies anyway. :)

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

The roads are better in Africa than Poland.

Have you ever been to Africa? If so, exactly where?

The young Poles are very materialistic

And the Americans not?

name brands mean everything...if you don't have

PUMA or NIKE plastered across your shirt you are not cool

A worldwide phenomenon, I'd say.

If you stop b!tch!ng for one minute and think for two: maybe you would have been materialistic if you had lived in a comunist country all your life - where you had to queue for absolutely everything (to the most basic stuff) and maybe not get it, even if you had your coupon. But hey, I'm not Polish, so I'm not the expert here. I'm also not saying that everybody should blame their worst fate on the past. I'm just wondering what would happen if you stop screaming for a moment and start listening to people who have lived in Poland all their lives. Just a thought. :)

Love / I miss my best friend [22]

I was drinking on Saturday night and I had to go into the toilets to cry (I practically never cry) because I've fallen for this new girl, but I still love my ex to bits, just the circumstances are too different between us.

Decide what youwant my friend! Then know that every kind of sport has its injuries. What's going on at the moment is not fair to either of the girls. Good luck ;)

Life / New English Language Magazine for expats in Poland? [24]

Hi Brit

Haven't read the whole thread, but did you have a look at the Warsaw Insider yet?

This is just for Warsaw though - don't know if there are insiders for the other cities.

Thanx G - Can you tell me why though. In plural, both have rz before the inflection = soft consonant => plural ending in e? Or has it got to do with the fact that doktor ends in r and not in rz?
