History / Jews...and their Polish experience [520]

Frank, are you a Jew ?

Greg....a more telling question is...are you an anti-semite?

Are they above criticism?

Nope....nor are Poles or Irish......( who didn't exactly cover themselves in glory after WWII)...other nations.

Frank, how about if you were interested in the Jews' attitudes towards the Polish people, their, Jews' horrific Polonophobia and terrible things the Jews have done to the Poles for the last hundred years, e.g. just after WWI, during WWII, during the Stalinist era, and through the spread of hate propaganda by the means of the mass media, including film? Would you be interested in these subjects, Frank? After all, it's a Polish, not Jewish forum, at least by name, isn't it?

So.....its all there own fault that they have been the victim of genocide....mass extermination..........?

Take it a step further..........so you are excusing Hitlers hatred of Polish people due to his Polonophobia/Slavicphobia.......ergo....this was enough for him to murder endless numbers of Poles............?.....me thinks you shot yourself...in both feet.

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

this is the fault of the employers as they can pay the polish workers less money then english workers so are employing more and more to save themselves money.

Whilst there may be a modicum of truth in this............as Lisa says.......the local population wants everything for themselves....ie the UK since the 1960's have single handedly "exported" 10 million jobs overseas..............all by themselves....quite happy to pay someone else to make it cheaper.........now all that has happened is that.....the people prepared to do UK/Irish jobs..to do it cheaper on our home soil.....have come to us!!

No ones fault...but our own!

S, am sure you don't mean to propagate any views of intolerance of any kind....but by giving them air play is still too much....am not sticking my head in the sand, I know it exists and is common, but I don't want to be exposed to it any shape or form......

Eeeemmmmmmmmmmmm....barking aint my scene.............ok then...wooof....:)

Just no place for it on any board...IMHO.....

just like there is anti-Polonism in Ireland now.

I don't agree...............there is not a general feeling of ill will or a feeling of superiorty towards our migrant EU guests......nor will we legislate against them....nor deny them!!

Yes there are a**holes........as in ALL societies.........am sure there are few anti Irish people in Poland.........but not a campaign or laws against them.

Feel free to apologise G.........:)

Life / Gas, petrol prices in Poland [42]

UK, Ireland / Negative attitude towards Polish immigration in UK becoming stronger [90]

Oi i'm my dad is 100% british and i was born in uk... how u say i'm asian?

No one is a 100% anything........everyone originated in the area of Africa where Kenya is now, and then spread out to occupy the remainder of the world.......

Such views are merely bolstering nationalist and divisive ways of thinking.

Assimilation, NO. No, way!

Another divisive, promotion of discriminatory practices.........

Uk...I can only but echo your sentiments......however as we have seen even in Europe in the last 10 years, the instinct to destroy/commit genocide on your enemies etc......is still very strong...

We have to be vigilant.

History / Jews...and their Polish experience [520]

Polisham.......it wasn't so much accusatory and yes I acknowledge that lots of Polish people did heroic things for the Jewish population........this is a board about Poland.......hence the question.

I want to understnad.......what happened, attitudes etc as per the post several months ago..., you accuse me of being antiPolish, yet I have visted your country several times and have given employment to several of your countrymen.......anti-Polish......no...why do people jump to conclusions?

Poland was the first country in Europe to welcome Jews when other countries burned them at the stake during the middle ages...read your history!!!

Not sure about the first part of this.....wasn't this welcome to other faiths too?

Secondly all over Europe people of many faiths were burnt at the stake...more history readings?...:)

Just going back over a few posts on the first page.....quote from Babylon below.....

"What sick person you are? Typical thinking about "polish antisemitic".""...this is were I was mis understood...what I meant was, was the history of Jews in Poland being taught to in school acknowledging anti-semitiscm at any stage in Poland ....not that anti-semitiscm was being taught now!!!

This is an answer from Gregorscz on page two....who states he is Polish....

"If you ask If there was anti-semitism in Poland, the answer can't be other than yes,""

This is from Aniah.......she doesnt say where she is from.....

"And to this I would add: has anyone ever known a poor Jew?""....I think you'll find more than one poor Jew in the world..........as an entry point for Jews into the UK in the East end of London, there were thousands of poor Jews living, scraping a meagre living just like the local English......another myth.

This from Greg again.............

"but after PiƂsudski died in 1935 and quite radical politicians took over the government there were even a few anti-semitic laws passed,"...was wiondering because of what was going on in Germany or Europe generally or just in Poland?

How can you compare Ireland to Poland when Ireland was not attacked and controlled by Germany? You seem to be anti-Polish no matter what the answer is...with no facts to back up your accusations!

I didn't compare Ireland......again...back to first post...only ever wanted to get views opinions......not here to condemn, or belittle Poland......I now know more.....but not it all.....:)

News / Are there any other countries that Polish immigrants are going to? [70]

Guys...it appears we are ALL not quite correct....please read said EU document........

First phase

During the first phase, three EU-15 Member States (Ireland, Sweden and the United Kingdom) liberalised access to their labour markets under national law. The United Kingdom, however, adopted a mandatory Worker's Registration Scheme. Under this scheme workers from the EU-8 Member States must register with the UK Home Office within 30 days of starting their employment in the UK.

History / Soviet war monuments in Poland - what to do about them? [133]

EU support spread of Islam on Balkan, EU colaborate with Al Qaeda on Balkan, EU colaborate with mujaheedines on Balkan, EU supoported creation of Greater Croatia, EU supporting creation of Greater Albania, ...and imagine selfish Russian elite even helped them in some moments and on the other side, Pan-Slavic wing of Russian elite opposed to this situation in some other moments.

Crow its all very complex for those of us not of E European origin to get a real picture of what has happened......not sure how true all of the above is....supporting is the wrong word at times...perhaps has facilitated/allowed certain things to happen.......ie inadvertently....through stupidity/EU laws of equality etc.....

As for Putin and Chechnya...........a whole other story........S Times quoted 10000 children fatalites during that war......

News / Are there any other countries that Polish immigrants are going to? [70]

Poles go ton European Countries becouse they can legally work there

Incorrect....only 3 countries gave permission to work, the two above plus Denmark.

They have to wait for another period before they can legally work in the rest iof the EU.....not sure how long, but they can visitthe other EU states, many then stay and work but they aren't protected by law in those countries.

Few weeks ago Artur Boruc saved 9 month pregnant polish girl who was bitten by people on the street of Edinbourgh.

Sure, but equally in Ireland East Europeans have been increasingly involved in crime, its a two way street.

It doesn`t happen in Canada or US

Gee..............are you sure?

That`s why living in Canada or the USA is better for us

Plenty of sad Poles reporting general intolerance to other immigrants to N America..........

History / Soviet war monuments in Poland - what to do about them? [133]

For such a great nation...has such wonderful creative, resilient people with a phenomenal history, plus some hugely important individuals......

It lets itself down on so many fronts its painful, as if both they and the USA have never learnt anything......

The only people who suffer are the ordinary, common guy( aka as cannon fodder)...trying to scrape a living.

Will the world ever get leaders they are worthy of or are we condemned for an eternity to power hungry miscreants holding the reins of power......?

Or am I just being naive................again?

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

Well I'm just embittered a bit bacuse a lot of my close friend run away.

On the contrary..........their decision to leave...probably just temporarily, was equal in value to your decision to stay.....you then argue that those who stayed did have better jobs/or had a job at all, plus prospects - and also scared to leave; as opposed to the jobless and no prospects.........plus equally scared in thinking/having to leave.

Both decisions exhibit freedom of thought/expression/movement which is what the EU is about.

The only export Ireland ever made for centuries - were its people.......thats why in the USA there are 45 million Irish-Americans, in UK 5 million Anglo-Irish, plus smaller numbers in lots of other countries. Ireland currently only has a population of 5 million!!!!!!

I have turned down a post of stewardess in british airlines and I don't regert it.

You did the right thing for you....:)

Polish youth never had the chance to change their own lives for the better, the state, older people made all the decisions for them..........they can now decide for themselves....its scary......a bit of a roller coaster ride.........but ultimately FABULOUS !!!!!!!!

Travel / Irish/Brits banned from hotels in Warsaw [43]

but they are getting rich and with that maybe a little arrogant - like the English.

I am not quite sure how if this holds up; you are talking two different cultures/ attitudes/sets of values.

The Irish don't have a culture related to invasion, conquering/colonising/ruling other nations/beleiving ourselves to be superior.

Yes, the younger part of the nation is effectively Catholic in name only, yes they now are financially well off, can now travel, enjoy a higher lifestyle - but at a cost, less time for people, seeing other peoples as an opportunity to make money, much faster more frustrating/impersonal lifestyle, particularly in Dublin and to a lesser extent in other cities.

We have gainer a lot....but also lost certain things.........

If they are refusing people based on race or religion then they can expect problems (and deservedly so) but if they have an unofficial policy of always telling groups of Brits that there is no space, they will not have any problems. And even if somebody did complain the hotel can fairly easily prove that it is actually their official policy to bar all-male groups (other than corporate travellers or conventions).

Again there are issues surrounding this.......even though the hotel may well have grounds to ban certian groups...if its found that....that group was all Irish/English/Danish, you would still have grounds in law to take an action as it was indirect discrimination.

UK, Ireland / Poles to stay or not to stay [in Ireland] - is there a question? [25]

Nobody will hire you as a doctor, in IT sector or sth if you don't speak English fluently. That's all

Not the case....I have met many doctors in a variety of setting whose English is way below that what would be expected in that job, particuarly from a pronunciation/being able to understand them aspect....no doubt their written English is good, but its very difficult for older patients to get the most from their consultations. Even though many are supposed to have a passed a certain type of use of English exam.

I am very disappointed to see lazy Irish youngsters not willing to go ahead with their education....

Every nation has a "rump" of stupid/uneducatable/feckless...............would you like a list?....:)

u seem to have forgotten very quickly how poor you were in the past

No...the Irish have very long memories, just like the Poles....we never forget......

your opinions please

To respond to the original post.....I think maybe 20% may stay, the remainder numbers will be seasonal/university types, savers for a deposit in a house/business......until the economies begin to equalise.......these percentages will fluctuate, then dwindle away....it may be 2/5/15 yrs...or until the Celtic Tiger dies a death....:(
