Food / Pink Soup [19]

ones pickled in jars...you dont get them fresh in any supermarket I go to I have looked.

no, those won't do.

I made a couple of times borshch from pickled beets and it was quite delicious. If there is not fresh beets, which are, of course, better, I don't see why pickled ones can't be used.

Ironside

No freedom of speech on Polish Forum!!! Materials PF doesn't like, no matter if they are facts and moreover, well-quoted, are being deleted. Shame!

As always - avoidance, avoidance, avoidance of answering questions and shooting short sentences which often miss meaning.

Wow and they even deleted my links to the sites where I gathered so much material on Ukrainian-Polish history. How low is that? It was direct answer to Porzeczka and her thing is left while mine was deleted. Any freedom of speech here, Polish Forum?

Honor your Heroes and remember your dead regardless what they say!

Absolutely. :)

This is the only thing I understood from what you said, Ironside :)

And thenin the light of previous massacres the comity could investigate also Ukrainian grievances ( from XX century).

I told you, Ironside, you are a blinded dude, who sees only one side and the other side is treated by you like nothing. I haven't encountered more arrogance and short-sightedness in one sentence before and you call it "Polish-Ukrainian comity". Why? Call it "Polish comity" - it will be more exact to what you said.

I hope sometime a comity will be created that won't be investigating "then" and "in light of" as you propose ;)

So Ukrainians in L'viv, or generally in western part of Ukraine are like Mexicans in Michigan who want to build an Aztec state? You are a pathetic loser. There is no point for me to spend time of arguing with you anymore.

I think our government will recognize massacres in Wolyn, when Polish recognize massacres of Ukrainians they did in 16th, 17th, 18th centuries as well as in 20th, including Polonization which destroyed so much in my country. I think it is fair.

Also I saw AK veterans on a Pulaski parade the other day. They were given flowers by young kids etc. Why don't you condemn AK, they massacred as well, but you look with fallen jaw on UPA and their monuments in Ukraine? You want to be fair - be fair.

Have you been to the Ukraine at all and for how long?
I wonder if your views are representative ......

I was born in Ukraine and lived there most of my life. :) I don't know how representative I can be of the whole country :), but many will back up my opinions - no doubt.

You don't offer any argument only facts interpreted in the light of your views, and you are saying that we should working together , fine but some issue from the past should be make clear,

Sure, tell me the issues you have and we will talk them over. Please, don't make them about territories, because the borders will stay the way they are. UPA-AK issue we also dealt with, i hope. If there are any other ones - it will be a pleasure to discuss, Ironside.

McCoy

Very funny article. These guys are obvious charlatans whose aim is to do the same as Ironside and Salomon are doing here - undermine Polish and Ukrainian relationship and friendship. Fortunately, absent-mindism is limited by minority of people.

What aspiration ? do you think in the prewar situation there was chance for existence of the independent Ukrainian state.

You said a lot. Pawian answered many of your questions. But read again what you said, look deep through the rust of your arrogance and chauvinism. For you there can't be any aspirations to be free, to speak your own language, to go to school were your language is taught when it is related to someone else - a person of different nationality. Imagine yourself in place of these people. What would you do? You can't fight politically because education and government with courts and executive branches are all against you, with no representation of whatsoever. Were these people interested in fate of some foreign culture and language? nation? - No. How would you fight?

You see Ukrainians as uneducated, poor people who didn't aspire freedom. Look back at the history and tell me how much blood of both nations is buried in Ukrainian fields - thousand tons. Do you think if Ukrainians didn't aspire freedom, that blood would be there? No. You make mistake of the past - you try to colonize, to dominate, to find some pretext of Grand Duchy giving lands and Boleslaw's inheritance of Danylo Halyckij's kingdom in the present time. Some stupid dudes (Ukrainian and Russian) make a seminarium to build animosity in our relations and many fly like flies on shti because this is what they want - anger, blood, lands, domination - because "we are grand, we should always dominate others". You understand that seminarium like this is made for this only purpose - nothing else. And Salomon builds a fence immediately along our border - it is a celebration for this Russian ****. Ironside, I am not forcing you to take my or Pawian's side of viewing things. Just sit down and read on history of our both nations and think if there was another way of making things work out for the benefit of both. I said it already one time and I will say it again. If Poland didn't try to colonize Ukraine all the time, but made an ally on its eastern border, Russia would never been able to menace Lithuania, Poland or Ukraine, Sweden and Germany would never invaded Poland the way they did. And even if they did, it wouldn't last for long if we would have stood by each other. Remember hetman Sahajdachnij times - it was probably one of the most great co-operations between Poland and Ukraine. Moskow and Turks were defeated and both sides benefited from it. And this could have lasted for centuries if there were less arrogant and greedy people who always want to impose one's will on others. Think about it, Ironside.

What is to you neighborhood, having sex on the border line? If we are not ready, then we are not ready. I would be disappointed not to go to my native L'viv for a football match, but on the other hand, I always wanted to visit beautiful Kraków and Częnstachowa, Wawel castle etc. I would be happy for Poland and hope for some other time when we would be more prepared. But from what I hear, we will be ready, despite jealous anger of some Russians here.

L'viv asks Kraków for help in organising EURO 2012 ...

Pure business deal. If Ukraine sees that L'viv won't be able to accept as many tourists, it proposes to Kraków to take some tourists into their hotels. Don't you think it is good for Poland? (Well, you are not Polish and you wouldn't want any benefit for that country to have). More tourists - more money through hotels, shopping, museums, church-visiting etc... But as far as I know, L'viv mayor Roman Sadovyj said that everything goes according to the plan, so I hope everything will be well underway till Noverber's next check-up. Lol.

History / Poland and Ukraine [240]

Nathan-like people existence who are revanchist per se and are eager to compensate the "deficiency" of history by rewriting and ridiculing it.

I don't need any revanche. I need nothing of Russia. I don't claim any land and not pretend history what it is not. Mention or quote me on one thing were I demanded revanche (which would mean killing millions of Russians, plundering your lands etc.) or anything in even remote sense. Find these and put 'em here, Sasha.

look at Gogol...

You talk of Gogol like he is the only writer out there. He was born in Ukraine, wrote in Russian, mostly of Russia - take him, he's all yours. We have enough writers and poets to give you some more if you need, just ask. :)

I believe that future of Poland, Ukraine (and Russia) is not in a land sharing, rubbing each other's nose into the dirt of bygone mistakes or manipulating history. The future is in good neighbourhood, treating each other as brothers. Sounds unachievable? Why not to try at least?

Good words, bravo. I desire and wish it as well. But I don't want to be brothers. I prefer to be neighbors who respect each other like business partner with no extra blubbery familiar dribble. The rest is fine. I would shake your hand right now.

My reservation are limited to some territory which should belong to Poland

Lol. All you can reserve is a kopniak w dupe. :)

When Russ dynasty died King of Poland inherited that territory and made it part of the Crown, the same rule applied as for Burgundy or Provence.

Lol. ;)

better to frighten children with story's about bad Poles kicking **** out of the poor innocent Cossack or ruling in Moscow with terror.LOL

Lol. ;0

tak, Lwow. as you see, some ukrainians came and vandalized the cross pleaced to commemorate polish profesors and their families executed by germans in '41

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

I wouldn't argue with you because I have no time for filling the knowledge and understanding of cultures you have no idea of. Meet people, talk to them, read news, statistics, history, anthropology and most important - live with these people for awhile - only then you will have idea of mentality and huge differences in psychos of Ukrainians, Baltic nations and Russians. Until then you are like a puffer mushroom, making senseless smoke of spores. Trust me - you have no idea.

I'm never claimed to be an expert on Eastern Europe, and I didn't study EE politics or history in University, my degree is in Computer Science, not EE Studies

Exactly! But it is useful to expand one's knowledge a bit sometimes :). I know nothing even of a keyboard - therefore, you won't see me claiming that keyboard is somehow similar to CPU in function and form or that monitor makes the calculations through the harddrive etc. Talk of what you know, not what you like to know, but don't. :)

News / Kaliningrad. Problem, Threat or Opportunity for Poland? [185]

That's a drivel, Anatoly. Please keep your Russophobia within your stomach and don't throw it up spilling on here. When you say "moved Russians" who the hell you meant? Who are "Russians"? If you mean KGB or whatever.. please, specify... since there were A LOT OF Ukrainians in punish brigades who shot Russians, Poles and UKRAINIANS. I suspect that those Ukrainians who doesn't share your views are automatically goes by "Russians". That's you who hates the very word "Russian", others just want to live in peace...

There is a thing called self-identification. There is nothing wrong with belonging to a nationality, but working against a country were you were raised and sometimes born is outrageous. Why isn't there any other nationality which would do similar? Why do majority of your people instead of working to bring up the country, does everything to destroy it?

"Crimean Muslims were subjected to mass deportation in 1944 when Stalin accused them of collaborating with the Nazi Germany. Nearly 200,000 Crimean Tatars were deported to Central Asia, mainly Uzbekistan but also to Kazakhstan and some regions of Russian SFSR. The main deportation occurred on May 18, 1944. It is estimated that about 45% of all Crimean Muslims died in 1944-1945 from hunger and disease.[citation needed] The property and territory abandoned by Crimean Tatars were appropriated by the mostly ethnic Russians who were resettled by the Soviet authorities. This led to demographic changes in Ukraine with huge impact in the future. Although a 1967 Soviet decree removed the charges against Crimean Tatars, the Soviet government did nothing to facilitate their resettlement in Crimea and to make reparations for lost lives and confiscated property. The repatriation of Crimean tatars to their homeland began only in 1989."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Ukraine

This is just one nation that was deported and resettled by Russians. You will find hundreds of examples for Ukrainians, Lithuanians, Polish, Bielorusyns, Georgians etc.......

Look how this Net creature talk about Serbs.

Well, how do I talk of Serbs? All I am saying relax and if you feel love to Russia as much as you express in your dialogues, do something about it. But don't involve Ukraine in it. That's all I am asking of you.

Serbians gave greatest resistance to Soviets, greater then Poles or Ukrainains. Serbs criticized Soviets for all what they done, we spat in face of worse communist scum. We send message to Soviets that we don`t consider them for Russians, we believed that Russians can beat communism. Serbians encouraged resistance of all other Slavs to Soviet Union.

Poles and Ukrainians gave a huge resistance to Soviets. That is why many died being in military organizations or by writing Soviet totaliarism's undermining literature. Many of these people ended up in Siberia or imprisoned for 15 to 25 years, of those not many returned. Neither of us gave up. I don't know of Poland much, but millions of people who were imprisoned or forcefully moved to Kazakhstan, Far East of Russia were replaced in Ukraine by Russians who now do the only thing in the country - undermine politics or any positive changes there are to be done. They hate very word "Ukraine" even though they hold Ukrainian passports. Soviet Union moved Russians in every republic possible to exert its force and now the consequences can be felt in vacillating political situation in Ukraine.

So, Crow, if you want "love" with your "brethren" - go ahead and make it, but don't mix in Ukraine in here, talk of Serbia.

that can't make up its mind, can't adjust politically and economically

Thank you for helping. We have only 17 years of independance. Before that Russia ruled the country for 70 years and now we are 50 years behind the world's economies. At least we have freedom of speech whereas you can't say a word without looking over your shoulder. Sasha, fight for your country, make it free and on the way there try to mind your own business and not putting sticks in somebody else's spokes.

According to historians, OUN-UPA murdered 120 000 - 150 000 Poles.

It is not true - read the following:

"Kwasniewski (left) and Kuchma in Pavlivka on July 11, 2003 (epa)
According to Poland's National Remembrance Institute, in 1943 the UPA murdered some 60,000 civilian Poles in Volhynia, in anticipation of an independent Ukrainian state after the war and a plebiscite on which country, Poland or Ukraine, should possess the disputed area. The Polish AK subsequently resorted to retaliatory actions. According to Ukrainian estimates, the AK may have killed in retaliation as many as 20,000 Ukrainians in Volhynia.

The postwar period only added to the Polish-Ukrainian record of mutual wrongs and prejudices. In 1947, the Polish communist government forcibly resettled some 140,000 Ukrainians from their native areas in southeastern Poland to Poland's newly acquired northern and western territories. The official excuse for that mass expulsion was the desire to undercut the social base of support for the UPA in the area."

And where is your respect for innocent victims of your 'heroes'?

Where have you seen any word of disrespect to the victims? Porzeczka, of you are saying something support it first by quoting me. Don't lie.

"In 2002, Kwasniewski officially condemned the forcible resettlement of Polish Ukrainians by the communist authorities in 1947. Poles expected that Kuchma in 2003 would respond with an official apology for the wartime massacres of Poles in Volhynia. But Kuchma did not fulfill that expectation.

One should not expect any official apologies from either Yushchenko or Kaczynski in Pawlokoma. However, their meeting there seems to be a significant, even if small, step toward Ukrainian-Polish reconciliation."

Yes, Kwasniewski recognized wrongdoing in the forcible resettlement. But neither he nor Kuchma declared wrongdoing by UPA or Armija Krajowa. If it comes to this, we have on both sides to ban both organizations. On the other hand, I understand that as UPA so AK fought for independance of our countries from Nazi, Soviet Union (not sure about AK, but UPA fought Soviets as well) and each other. There were some groups within these organizations who did bestial things to innocent and I condemn them. If you start to tell me that 20,000 is much less than 60,000 and other stories, then there won't be any concensus on that either. Stop saying that I don't have respect to these victims. Don't make a beast out of me. But if you want to be just - be just to the end and don't stop in the middle of the road. If you consider to condemn and ban the organizations just on the basis of some retarded animals wrongdoings, then we have to ban them both so you can't see even those who never killed any innocent and put their head for their country.

Listen, Sash. Yes, I used these words. We have an agreement with Ironside to stop using them. So...
I have no hatred or love towards Russians. If I had no nathionality as you claim (because, maybe, you lack one) I wouldn't be here. But I am here because I am not indifferent to the future of my country. I don't want my kids to live in horrors my grandparents, parents and I were living in. I want my country to be in Europe where knowledge, culture and human being is appreciated and respected. You may cry your ass off with your crocodile tears. It is up to you - I know you have of them. He is an idiot and not the issue to be discussed.
We are talking and exchanging views on the Internet there no states no diplomacy, only individuals expressing theirs opinion.

Absence of diplomacy on the internet as you claim doesn't mean you have to call names. A couple of dialogues above you asked me to not do it. Wy are offending other people?

I was pointing to you that in the 1919 there wasn't single Ukrainian nation but at last two claimant to this title. One wanted capital in Kiev and second wanted capital in Vienna.

As for defending terrytory if boths sides were doing just that - who was right?
both?

Somehow there was Western Ukrainian People's Republic with capital in Lviv and Ukrainian People's Republic in Kijiv which united in 1919, January 22 if I am correct. So again you are wrong about that. And before the unification they didn't fight among each other and had common enemies. So what is your question?

Still it interests me what it has to do with Poland and Ukraine topic.

I know, but there is no more Polish king either, so? Also why didn't you put Ukraine and question mark? Hard?

I am afraid you won`t find it. The number 500.000 applies to all Polish victims in the East, most of them died at Soviet hands.
Oh yes ... pretend that it was the soviets.

In the Soviet zone 1.5 million Poles (including women and children) were transported to labour camps in Siberia and other areas. Many thousands of captured Polish officers were shot at several secret forest sites; the first to be discovered being Katyn, near Smolensk.

Please Nathan, no more ranting and personal insults, will you try?

Well , I didn't say about sheep-shagging by ancestors of one of the greatest Ukrainian poets. Of course, no more personal insults. Agreed.

For all you know I could have better claims to be successor of the Rusyns then you!

I doubt it.

One from my family died faithing for Kiev to help build Ukrainian state, another as a kid was defending Lwów from local Ukrainians who with the help of the court in Vienna were trying to build separate state with Hapsburg as a monarch and with capitol in Vienna not Kiev.

Ironside, would you please explain this? What did these local Ukrainians do to Poland if they wanted to build a separate state with even capital in Vienna as you claim. You see that these people where willing to live in Habsburg empire than even have dealing with Poles of the past who closed churches, burnt libraries, made lives miserable by paramilitary bands of strzelcy, supported by police. You have to agree that your country was behaving outrageously against all norms of democracy and national tolerance. And if these people wanted what they wanted on their territory what is the problem?

Between 1349 and 1648 there is nothing which could be claim by Rusyns ( Moscow?) as their state not even shadow !Let's alone Ukraine.

Moscow was built in 13th century thousands miles away. Does it have connection to Lviv and king Danylo? Give me a break. Here is your chauvinistic side where you do everything possible even give Russians some credit just to support your baseless ideas.

Lviv was Ukrainian from the beginning when it was built by Ukrainian king Danylo Halickij for his son Lew (this is the reason the city was named like that) in 1256.

100 years later in 1349 it was occupied by Polish kingdom. During Khmelnickij city was recaptured for awhile and then lost till in 1772 Austro-Hungarian empire took it. Then Ukrainians took over in 1918, but Poland again occupied it till 1939. Since then it remains Ukrainian as it was at the beginning. I agree Opera and Ballet Theatre is magnificent. Come over and have fun, especially during upcoming 2012 soccer championship.

News / Searching for keys in Polish-Russian relations [75]

A large number of Polish colonists were encouraged by the Polish government to resettle in Volhynia. This number was estimated at 300,000 for both Galicia and Volhynia by UKrainian sources and less than 100,000 by Polish sources (see osadnik) [11] Although the majority of the local population was Ukrainian, virtually all government official positions were assigned to Poles.

In 1938-1939 a number of Ukrainian libraries and reading rooms were burned by Polish mobs of misguided patriotic youth who often went unpunished by the Polish police forces[7]. Polish youths were organized into armed, local paramilitary strzelcy groups and terrorized the Ukrainian population under the pretext of maintaining law and order. Bloodshed however was rare.

But there was blood. Note how many Poles moved to Volhynia and say that 100,000 people, who are claimed to be murdered by you, are correct. Many of the Ukrainians snapped. I know stories of Polish drowning a son on eyes of his father as well as killing a young girl in the village by which I was born. But for you it is a lie. And you keep saying that it was only 2-3 thousand, while claiming unexisting amounts of people yourself. By the beginning of WWll your ancestors were in the livers of many. They burned and closed schools, churches, read above. The same happened in Lithuania, Bilorus'. You say some were punished by underground court - come on, kid, wake up and stop playing with words. Listen I am not sure how many people I would kill if one of my family lost one person. So amount of blood shouldn't be measured here. You claim retribution? Are you insane?

Read on Jaworzno concentration camp which continued to exist and function till 1956! where not only Ukrainians but Jews, Bialorusy died. Read about operation "Wisla" and 200,000 people and what was done to them.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polonization

Horrible people are everywhere. But to accuse the whole organization for atrocities is baseless. If you do it, do it to the AK and we will see then, ok? UPA fought Germans and Soviet Army as well as AK. In eastern oblasts' of Ukraine which were more under Russian influence UPA is hated as well. Of course, they fought Soviet Army. What is more tragic is the fact that many Ukrainians were in the Soviet Army and thus fought against each other.

Dear Polish guys. I have part of my family who are Polish as well. And I have nothing but respect to you even though sometimes I get angry. But, please, listen to me. What we are fighting for is senseless. And as Torq said - let's move on. Don't build hatred in your kids. I will never do that either. Don't try to force someone to except your truth and glorify whomever they want. Ukraine is not building demands on you glorifying AK. And now please don't say AK was humanistic and strzelcy were just kids having fun and never killing anyone. Just let's stop whining, remember all our dead with peace and let's make possible it will never happen again on either side.
