History / Why has Poland been attacked so often by its neighbors? [180]

There weren`t too many Polish politicians ready to take up such positions. Poland didn`t have its Petain or Quisling and it is a reason to be proud.

The german attitude to the eastern countries/peoples were totally different to the western countries.
You can't possible know if Poles hadn't acted the same if they were given the choice!

But we (as the nation) only hate Germans

You as a nation hate Germans???

What are you doing in the EU then....

News / Is Poland experiencing the same economic problems as is USA? [30]

That was a firm rule....till the last crisis that is.
The actual crisis in the US has done not so much to the EU economies as feared.
Two points: First the Euro showed to be a strong, resilient currency. And more and more business is done in Euro!
And the actual economic dependancy to the US has sunk...for example Germany does only about 16 percent of their trade with the US (Dollar)...so when the US slumped it's felt in Europe but not dangerously so...

Times have changed...

History / Why has Poland been attacked so often by its neighbors? [180]

So under leadership of Gehlen, a former Nazi General, this organisation provided false information about East Germany, Poland and Russia, to create a tension between America and Russia

Excuse me, it didn't need a Gehlen to create tensions between the US and the Soviets.
And if the US and the Soviets had been good chums no Gehlen could have driven a wedge between them.
It was the fight about the spheres of influences in Europe and the US used "their Germans" as the Soviets used "their Germans" also.

(All this tensions benefitted the Germans of course...unthinkable what would had become of Germany if the US and the Soviets had stayed good chums...but that is another story!)

PS: What makes Gehlen a Nazi in your book? He was intelligence on the Eastern Front for the Wehrmacht! (The reason for his importance for the US)

Later he became chef of the Bundesnachrichtendienst...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinhard_Gehlen

In 1942, he was approached by Colonel Henning von Tresckow, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg and General Adolf Heusinger to participate in an assassination attempt on German dictator Adolf Hitler. His role was minor. When the plot culminated in the failed bomb plot of July 20, 1944, Gehlen's role was covered up and he escaped Hitler's brutal retaliation against the conspirators[2].

...things and people are not always only black or white, right?

Crow, your If's and WHEN's and your constant dreaming of another world totally unrealistic and far away from facts and realities is what I call "blah, blah"....of no value whatsoever!

Caring for one's family is a real good advise instead!

Sorry but i never wanted such document to be created.

Are you pro-EU at all? How do you see the future of Europe?

You like the US constitution? Then why are you so deadset against a constitution for the United States of Europe???

The 55 delegates had a much easier job...we here in Europe must somehow bring 27 totally different nations under one, the same hat - THAT'S WHY this treaty is so long..so winded...often so unclear...so that EVERYBODY get's their say....

I'm all for a core Europe - we would get a shorter, much better treaty/constitution going without having to listen to everyone and his grandma who want to have a say or threatens with veto!

Here an interesting opinion:

guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/jun/14/ireland.eu1

...In the longer term, however, the prospects of creating a Europe with a strong voice and distinct leadership are darker this morning than they were yesterday. Sapped of the political will to make bold reforms, an EU of 27 member states could return to a patchwork of ad hoc intergovernmental alliances. If integration by grand constitution is dead, and integration by small treaty in a rut, business will be conducted by smaller groups of countries. This is not a union that will find it easy to accept Turkey as a member, defend its common interests against Russia, or speak with one voice about the Middle East, global warming or trade. But it is the union we have now got....

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

It was once very much clearer and shorter...but the watering down and the need to put it that way that EVERYBODY would agree made it misty and more unclear, not mention that important things got left out...thanks to the NO voters and the need for an unanimous consent!

7 years of discussion and re-wording and re-writing ought to do things like that...
The most minimal common consent you wanted? You got it...don't complain now!

PS: I prefer the Wiki short version...

Sounds like somebody cared

Cared for what?

Just some highlights of the Treaty of Lisbon: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Lisbon

Now...for what did they care/not care???

Hello Bratwurst Boy,

So did you read the treaty yet?

Just the headlines...sounds rather good I must say! To bad that the Irelanders didn't care...and many others too...
I think a re-founding of a new EU alone with people who really care would be the best right now!

History / Why has Poland been attacked so often by its neighbors? [180]

I will gladly help you supplement your historical knowledge. It seems to be incomplete.... :)

Really!

Where do we disagree?
That the Liste determinted who was German and who was not?
That those who were Germans were drafted into the Wehrmacht?
What do you don't understand about "Volksdeutsch", "Deutschstämmig", "Eingedeutscht" and "Rückgedeutscht"....

No ethnically Poles were drafted into the Wehrmacht.
But that also concerned other nationalities...not french, no danish, no
dutch no other nationality were drafted into the Wehrmacht! It was policy.

Additionally the Nazis didn't want any collaboration of the ethnic Poles whatsoever. Poland never got the possibility of self government as other occupied countries got. Poland was never invited to take part in form of building a Waffen-SS unit like many other countries (also eastern ones).

And you really think the Nazis had allowed pure Poles in the Wehrmacht??? Think again...

There were of course alot of people who had mixed heritage....that is another gray field altogether.

PS: I would be very careful to cite survivors on the polish site after the war about their true motives...how do you think would they had fared if they had admitted that they felt german and prefered the Wehrmacht.

Of course they were now all patriotic Poles and couldn't wait to stick it to the Germans...just wonder how many Germans there would be had the Nazis won!

PS: My family stems from lower Silesia and all men fighted in the Wehrmacht, I know what I'm talking of..

Interesting document, the "Wehrgesetz" of 1935....

Arische Abstammung
§ 15

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

You don't need a treaty for that problem SeanB...it seems Poles and also Irlanders want the same say in all questions like the biggies, understandable!

Every country the same voice, unanimous consent...

But we see and know that the EU can't work that way! I told you my solution...but neither you nor Lukasz present another, better solution.

I tell you why, there isn't any!

The article I linked to (sadly only in German) states explicitely that the EU became to large to work without a form of treaty or constitution.

SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE!

PS: And not to forget the Treaty of Lisbon is already the reworked, watered down version of another, the REAL one...I've heard experts saying that the Lisbon treaty is so much softened, so much watered down that many important things were left out or only the most common nominator were used...not that what a strong treaty should be!

?

What was so funny?

PS: Interesting...german politicians are already demanding a "reestablishment" or a "reorganization" of the EU

spiegel.de/politik/ausland/0,1518,559572,00.html

"The base should be a strong, understandable treaty and every country can decide then if they want to follow this treaty and enter the new EU..."

(I told you so...)

"so long and thanks for all the fish"

No...thanks for what???

And I'm not starting to read the treaty now! :)

But really...there are no ideas from both of you....I know why...because you have none!
It can't work as it is now..I repeat: Something has to give!

You still didn't explain how such a huge business can effectively work if so many people have a say and a consent must be reached before anything could be done?

How can that work in your opinion?

News / EU constitution: 'Strong show' for Irish No vote ? [126]

But something has to give...which country would be working if every citizen would be asked about every decision and consent would be needed?

It wouldn't!

If a country can't live with it it must be free to go...I don't see why we should hand out so many millions and only be seen as the frightful boogie man!

Irland profited like not many other countries, where were they today without the help of the EU?
Now all this talk about the "horrible" EU sounds just ridiculous!

History / Why has Poland been attacked so often by its neighbors? [180]

How the hell did this thread turn into some kind of old school, pseudo-science about the movements of germanic or slavic tribes? WTF? I know all topics digress into other matters, but if anything more must be said, let's try to stay on track please. Bratwurst, your obsession with german peoples is irrelevant. Start a topic about it if you like

Erm...german peoples irrelevant to this topic?

Are you that stupid or do you only look that way....
