News / Poland..wake up to a multicultural world [1059]

Colonialism was the best thing to ever have happened to Africa.

Oh yes, the workforce exploitation, the spiralling population with no health education, the fored merging of warring tribes into artificial nations that has led to the massacres in places like Rwanda, the corruption inherent in 'Western' administrations, the imposition of (ha ha) 'Democracy' on people who don't want it.. Yes Randal, Africans should thank God that Europeans came to rule them. Lucky devils.

PennBoy:
some are ok but most minorites just sit on welfare have a bunch of kids and mooch off the government, they're like a plague.

No they don't. In fact, in the UK, most of the one billion pounds a year in fraudulent sickness benefit claims are made by good white Saxon King Arthur Brits, not minorities.

Language / ANGLOS HAVE TROUBLE WITH SZCZ, SOME WITH TRILLED 'R' [22]

im having trouble saying the r in polish, any tips on how to do it?

I actually have a lot of trouble with this as I tend to pronounce my Rs by moving the lower lip against the top front teeth so it comes out like 'awound the wugged wocks the wagged wascal...'. Consequently any rz sound is really tricky...

Sorry no real tips apart from trying to find a Pole who can demonstrate or explain the tongue position and try to use it.

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

a 12 year old Taliban beheading an alleged spy ... you so called moderates ride a thin line ,you want to be potrayed as the oppressed .

You can't label every Muslim based on the actions of the Taliban. Can I blame Christians for people like Fritzl? Or how about the Spanish inquisition? You moderates indeed walk a thin line.

So, Khaled, why is sexism so accepted in places such as Pakistan?

Come come Seanus - Pakistan hardly has a monopoly on sexism.

our side of "one ugly face" (as you called that) is trying to get yours out of the stone age

.. by killing every last one of them if need be (Iraq, Palestine etc.)

Love / My Polish boyfriend and his drinking habit. [60]

I am not a racist but here goes

That's always a good start to an anecdote...!

The trouble is his drinking, he wants to go out drinking after work every night

Are you going out with Grzegorz?

I think i love him help!!!

Give it a rest Katy. We all like to dip our hands into the Polish cookie barrel now and again but this sounds like you're getting slapped around by an abusive drunk. That's not love, that's desperation. Stop being so stupid and get some distance from him.

Sometimes sarcasm works more efficiently than plain honest advice

No it doesn't. Is that some kind of Polish saying?

Love / There are some good looking older chicks in Poland no? [25]

a lot of Brits sneered at American fitness culture and some still deride me for taking vitamins, but their jaws drop when they find out how old I am.

I wouldn't be surprised. I was working with a woman this Summer who easily looked 15 years younger than her 45. (Relatively) Clean living, no drugs and regular exercise was all it took.

Life / How do Poles feel about non whites/non Slavs living in Poland? [150]

So Eastern Europe is suffering under all that “rich diversity” too,

We're not suffering, home boy. I like being able to get a Vietnamese takeaway and go for shisha and Arabic tea. I like beng able to study kung fu with a proper Chinese sifu. I like being able to drink Italian wine and Russian vodka. No suffering here.

Wake up, folks. Or you risk your culture being overrun.

Yawn. If you want a sympathetic ear, go post on the klan's site

Interestingly, those numbers come from who? Last I checked alledged numbers here in Iraq have been called into account and those who (made up?)

You think you can factor down a few hundred thousand dead to less than 3500? You are the kind of optimist who should be working for the bank of England, John. You really are wasted here. The fact stands that, by any reckoning, the terrorist acts on the US are a drop in the ocean compared with the crimes and human tragedies committed by America over the last century.

in a time when it is popular to slam the US policy on terror...

and rightly so. How many terror attacks have there been on the US or UK in the past few years? 1 or 2. Does this really constitute a war? Of course it doesn't. There are no terrorists outside my door wanting to kill me. There are no Mad Mullahs wanting to kill me. There are no secret nuclear bombs hidden in suitcases outside my door that can be used to kill me. There is no threat to my way of life. Apart from the policies of US banks which have screwed the world's economies.

Perhaps these heads of the banks should be snatched off the streets by the CIA and tortured eh? Perhaps they have some valuable knowledge on 'Al Kaieda' and their plans to destroy the world?

I could go on and on about how Gordon Brown, Barack Obama, and the Pope all kept me in a secret compound as a child where they abused puppies, and oh yeah...(see what I mean? )

You can do that, but it won't go to trial. Unlike the cases of people who HAVE been 'rendered'.

You simply parrot accusations you've heard from others, without knowing really if they are true or not.

Oh, the old, "its ok for people to behead people, because I know somebody else who is also mean" defense.
Nice.

Oh? Who was crying a moment ago about a few dead stockbrokers? Who was pulling numbers of corpses out of their hat to show how evil people are? Try looking at the link I posted to see who the biggest murderers are and we'll talk about this again. The right hand column shows the number of dead attributable to US foreign policy. Tens, hundreds of thousands of men women and children. And you're waving a handful of beheadings at me? Pfah.

if YOU believe it...

The New york Times believed it. Amnesty International believed it. The telegraph believed it. Go ask them if you don't believe me.

You are a coolaid drinker aren't you.

Exactly what anyone would say to you.

MrBubbles:
even though they might have been 'rendered' off the streets in some foreign capital and tortured for information thay don't have.

if this is found to be the case it is taken into account. Something you would know if you kept up on your news...

Oh I do. How about Hassan Mustafa Osama Nasr? A Muslim priest who was pulled off a Milan street one day by a bunch of CIA goons and flown to Egypt to be tortured for four years. John. I know that Milan's football stadium can get a bit rough sometimes but you expect me to believe that Milan is a 'war zone' an he is an 'enemy combatant'? Of course not. What gives the US the right to enter someone else's country and kidnap innocent people?

They have already demanded treatment as POWs

I'm sure they have also quite stongly demanded a trial, to be released, to know the charges against them and the right to legal counsel and been denied so all things considered it's a start that the authorities have deigned to treat them as POWs. Very good of them.

Somehow, I don't think sawing someone's head off or crashing an airliner into 3500 civilians intentionally...is in the same category as taking a known guilty person, making him uncomfortable but not physically harming him, to find out who else was in on the plot or when it is supposed to happen, other than perhaps neither are pleasant.

Perhaps you should change your story a little. We are not watching an episode of 24 here. The reality of torture is that a man who someone might think is possibly guilty is taken off the street and viciously tortured for months or years to surrender information he might, or more probably might not, have. Waterboarding is a form of torture by the way - don't try to pass that off as 'an uncomfortable procedure' where people are virtually drowned.

As for the crimes of terrorists, perhaps you should look at the track record of the US and its allies in their dealings with other countries.

UK, Ireland / POLISH SUICIDES IN THE UK [21]

Surely this should be a wake up call for people to realise that a problem shared is a problem halved and it is not a crime to admit defeat.

Agreed. It should also be a wake up call to Poles who think that they just have to come to the uk and offer to work for less than everyone else. Everyone needs skill these days.

Shot on sight. War and "civil" do not belong in the same sentence. Known terrorists.. ... can simply be killed.
Which, incidentally, violates no laws

Oh but it does, John. That would be murder. Killing someone you think is a terrorist because his eyes are too close together or something simply won't fly in court, which is why the authorities an Gitmo don't want the inmates' trials to be handled by civilian lawyers, even though they might have been 'rendered' off the streets in some foreign capital and tortured for information thay don't have.

The West long ago lost the moral high ground to the 'terrorists' by using the sam tactics. Or was it the terrorists who started using the same tactics as western governments?

Love / Polish women are known for their beauty, but men are so ugly (most of).. [250]

This might be heretical but after spending some years in Poland, I'm not convinced Polish women are that stunning. Sure there are some good ones out there, even a few beauties but when I visited the UK the other Summer, I actually found myself looking at English women from a fresh perspective.

Maybe, as renowned ladies' man Steven Tyler of Aerosmith once said, after years of eating steak, you get the urge for a burger. Perhaps we appreciate the differences? After years of trim healthy looking young maids, one gets the urge for a dumpy, noisy blokey sort of gal who doesn't know how to dress properly? After years of prickly self-conscious Polish women obsessed with their highlights, it's good to relax with someone who lets their armpit hair grow a bit and talks about cars with you.

If I had the choice, I'd have a Pole in the kitchen, an English in the pub and maybe an Italian in the bedroom but most legal systems won't allow it.

Some of us live in the real world.

Some of us work with Indonesians and talk to them. Perhaps you should think twice before spouting your ridiculous nonsense about Muslims in front of the other chest-thumping goobers who like to take a swing at people from the safety of their internet connection.

Do you really believe they all think and behave the same way and that there is never any intercultural friction?

Whatever gave you that impression? Ha Ha! The fact is that the millions of Muslims in Indonesia live together with millions of people of other faiths and do not have a problem with them. A fact borne out by the Indonesians of all faiths who I have worked with. Now run back to your joss sticks and yoga videos little girl.

News / Polish engineer beheaded in Pakistan. [347]

Before 2004 there was not a single suicide bombing in the country, since then we have lost thousands of innocent lives.

And what have we learned from this? Nothing. The way forward is by winning hearts and minds, not my flexing our muscles and trying to intimidate a people who are tough enough to call any bluff the west can put up.

A lot of time in Islamic countries.

Ha ha. I'm calling bullshit on this one. What about indonisia? Something like a third of the world's Muslims live there and you never hear a peep out of them. They just get on with things alnogside the Christians and Buddhists.

Never going to happen G - LOL they cant even convict British "born" Pakistanis who are caught with tapes inciting hate and talking of beheading people, do you honestly think they are going to catch these bastards who live in Pakistan?

I never knew posessing a tape of something was a crime, Shelley. If you fee so strongly why not pick up a gun, go to the Middle East and sort them out yourself. Internet Rambos eh?

they are so tolerant. the muslims would be amazed

ain't it the truth

All this muslim stuff is kinda fu***en sick sh**t!!!!!!
They treat woman like an animal,

I say film some of these extremists with a pork chop stuffed in their mouths

Let's take away some heads and play football. We will see then how brave and fearless they are.

Wow I never knew there were so many experts in Islamic relations willing to share their knowledge on this forum. You guys must have spent a lot of time in Islamic countries to get this incredible depth of understanding. Or then again, maybe you're talking a load of crap based on wat you see on the news and read in Tom Clancy novels. I wonder which one it could be?

Many are backwards and lack the necessary respect for women.

I know a country where wives are beaten by husbands who get drunk every day, where children are brought up to believe that girls are inferior to boys and where there is daily intolerance to anyone from a different social background. Where do you think that is, then? It's in central Europe and it's not Germany...

Language / IS POLISH LANGUAGE'S VULGARALISATION MEDIA-DRIVEN? [23]

Feel free to write a thoughtful, in-depth and fully documented essay or commentary. Your effort will be most appreciated.

Maybe later

As langauge changes so does swearing. English swearing has shifted over the years from religious swearing (Odds Bodkins! Gadzooks! By the testicles of St Anthony!) through lavatorial (Shit! Piss!) to sexual swearing (Fuck! Wanker! Bollocks!). I'm sure this is grossly oversimplified but you get my point.

What's the next evolutionary stage of the evolution of the English profanity? Racial swearing. Words like paki, nigger and kike are virtually never heard on TV or in every day use. There are the few words now that can really shock and offend people. I don't feel particularly comfortable using them because they have such ugly connotations.

So yes, words like fuck and shit are flung around in the media but mainly because they are far more acceptable in everyday society than they used to be. I wouldn't say that the Media can influence change in society but it can have a very norming effect in language - it'll take langauge that is aready in circulation and spread it around a discourse community and into its neighbours.

And you should perhaps re-read mine (post 86). White Americans are all descended from immigrants. Isn't it hypocritical for you to start whaling on other immigrants?

Still, if you want to fault the various European nations for sending colonizing forces to America in the past centuries, good luck.

So what? I just think it's funny that the n'th generation son of an immigrant is complaining about immigration. Some people are never happy eh?

^He said minorities. Just sayin...

Whatever. Go back to sleep

Language / Cases: What is Nominative or Accusative and when do I use those? [14]

Good man. You won't be sorry. I read that most languages in the world do tend to favour using sentences with a subject-verb-object order so in a lot of ways the inflections are a little redundant anyway. As an experiment, try only using the nominative for everything in your sentences and see if your interlocutor gets the drift.

Remember also that in most face to face conversation, the context is very obvious and this will help you a lot.

Life / How do Poles feel about non whites/non Slavs living in Poland? [150]

Poland wants to crawl up USA's ass so far that it has adopted the phobias of the West (like Islamophobia). It has forgotten it's longstanding Slavic traditions and is more likely even to relate to Westerners than to its Slavic brothers (for example Russians).

Agreed. Look at crap like Halloween - give it a generation and it'll replace All Saints Day. Then again, everyone seems to look West for inspiration - unfortunately
