UK, Ireland / Do many British carry knives? [60]

This is pretty topical right now as there have been 2 young people stabbed to death in London this week in separate incidents. One outside McDonalds in the busiest shopping street in London at 5pm. The government is now calling for a serious crack down on knife crime and they are introducing scanner like machines in some areas where people can be checked for knives. Most knife and gun crime is gang related, so dont join a gang kids, it aint cool.

Love / I work in a bank and employed a Polish girl - help required please [30]

well maybe you should get it in writing from him that if you are to have a relationship and it doesnt work out that he wont sack you.. however, it will undoubtedly become too difficult for you to stay if he owns the company. Although it it does work out you could become his partner in both business and pleasure, so could be great. I would try to think about the longer term of what you want in terms of both your career and your love life.. say in a few years time, and not just the here and now.

never date the boss.. its as simple as that. If you do, you will have to face the very real possibility of being disliked by your colleagues and out of work or in a very difficult situation if and when the relationship fails. Also, you should check your company's policies on this as you could both potentially end up getting sacked. Not worth the effort. If you really like each other, then I would look for another job, before you start dating.

Life / Smoking ban - will this be coming to Poland like other EU countries? [183]

lot of Pubs are now closing especially in the Town that I live in. One closed three weeks ago and four more are due to shut their doors within the next couple of weeks. Business simply isnt the same anymore. Whether or not that has something to with the smoking ban i do not know ........

it definitely does have something to do with the smoking ban. It is the same in my home town.. 5 out of 10 pubs have closed since the ban came in. It is bad for the pub trade (especially for those publicans who smoke, but can no longer do so in their own homes), which is why I think there should be a choice of smoking and non-smoking establishments. You antis can go and have a smoke free time and us grave dodgers can enjoy killing ourselves and those around us.

Life / What is Poland's favorite ciggarette? Which brands are the most popular? [46]

Some of the Slims are nice. I used to smoke the menthol ones

I only ever smoke Slim Menthols.. they are pretty hard to get hold of in the UK. I can buy some Greek ones called Vogue at my local shop.. but mainly Slim Menthols are only found in mainland Europe.. strange.

You clearly don't realise what a pain it is for a non-smoker to live in a country where his/her rights are not observed.

Actually I do, I was a non smoker for many years and had to tolerate cigarette smoke in public place. Now I choose to smoke but cant go clubbing or to the pub and do so, so we are both being discriminated against. I am just trying to get you to see it from both sides.. thats all.

Are you suggesting I should stop going out? There are NO clubs in my city where smoking is banned! I'm too young to sit at home and wait till the situation changes! :/

Move to the UK.. you will be able to go to as many smoke free pubs and night clubs as you choose. Otherwise, you need to lobby your government to change the law asap. In the meantime, I'm moving to your place :)

It might be difficult to pinpoint exactly whose smoke it was that caused your health problems.. perhaps some kind of smoke detector fitted to your body. But seriously if you are really that concerned about it, then yes I think you should stop going to clubs, as they are clearly bad for you.

What I can't understand is that there are still so many places when smokers can legally pose a threat to my health and bear no consequences!

Like where and what kind of consequences would you like them to bear? If you dont like it then dont go to those places. I respect non-smokers and I think that most smokers also do, but its a pity that non-smokers dont show smokers the same level of respect. It is called (or should be) freedom of choice.

They are now banning alcohol on public transport in London... although I dont think its a bad idea, I wonder what will be next.

Food / I can't handle it anymore...I'm cooking curry... [34]

Habaneros arent indian.. they're S American.. I would say more suitable for Mexican cuisine such as chilli con carne, but I guess you can cook an Indian with them (just ask his wife first)

I have no problem whatsoever cooking any kind of Indian food (curry was invented by the British). I do need to learn how to cook Polish food though.. thats a lot more tricky. Anyone wanna swap recipes?

In the UK you can buy it anywhere they sell Polish food, which seems to be a fcuk of a lot of places of late... in either packets or jars. My personal favourite is Knorr Ogorkowi, with crispy croutons. I have introduced this and Barszcz to my entire office.

Travel / Cheap airlines are not THAT cheap anymore ! [30]

you must have been in Poland far too long, your English appears to have taken a turn for the worse :o)

I believe its 10kg walk on and 15kg in the hold on Ryanair.. (sorry, I seem to have become obsessed with them).. theres hardly any difference here, but you still have to pay £18 each way for checking in your luggage. At least Sleazyjet have their taxes included in the price. Its all marketing innit.. advertise a 1p flight but charge £100 for it. Shouldnt be allowed.
