Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

I met this gay dude in college and a few months later he asked me *Do you want to be my girlfriend?

gay people never ask a straight person that question

But girls talk about their girlfriends. That is straight girls and their close friends who are striaght girls.
I assume he probably was gay and expressing an aspect of his effeminacy.
What do you expect?
'Euurgh! I'm not talking to you - you're a girl!'

Life / Gay scene good in Poland? [66]

donkey face

I sense some jealousy here from someone who has not yet evolved into a being that has a face. Or guts. Or reproductive organs. Or even a brain.

Love / Polish women are more inhibited in bed? [51]

Like driving a car? More like driving a forklift.
With a car, all the controls are there within the driver's reach.
Forklifts often have more levers and switches to deal with.
You also have to get out of a forklift, go round to the front or the back to make various necessary adjustments.

As for the main question... Need more research.

Life / Why are Polish people cheap? [126]

he lost his privliges once he slagged.. ;)

Then returned - the dirty slag!

I suppose it is our thread. Perhaps some kind moderator could just remove all the bits posted by the troll and we can get on with talking about cheap trousers.

Food / No Bagels in Poland (even though they were invented in Krakow :/ [11]

What makes bagels different is the boiling.
It's a while since I made bagels - the only thing I ever made from a Jewish resipe book someone once gave me.
I didn't fancy the Chicken Soup complete with feet.
But bagels with cream cheese and smoked salmon - mmmmmmmmm!
I didn't know they originated in Poland. You learn something new every day.

Supermarket bagels - why do they always taste like any other bread roll, only bagel-shaped?

Life / Why are Polish people cheap? [126]

I was lured in by one of these cheap clothes shops. Two pairs of trousers for a tenner? Whoohoo!
On one pair, the flies wouldn't stay done up. The other pair just started to come undone at the stitching after one day at work.

Yawn.

All this stuff is fascinating. Why are we keeping a trollogenic thread alive anyway?

i dont understand how one country can have such hate towards another

It is not countries who have hatred for other countries.
It is some individuals who have hatred for other countries.

Does this picture look like it could have been taken in any country other than Poland?

Travel / Donkey visits Poland [76]

Wera / Werka / Werunia is a lovely dog. Slighlty mad, but well behaved.
I spent a lot of time running round the garden trying, and usually failing, to get that stick off her.
When I did finally win the stick, it was a bit unpleasant so I'd always have to give it back to her. Well, throw it to the bushes on the other side of the garden.

edit: On the last visit, there was a suggestion that she might be a mother-to-be.
Father: unknown!

edit edit: Father: another dog.

edit edit edit: I have a strange feeling the name is spelt Werónia. Help please!

Life / Redheads in Poland - How many? [95]

how the hell do you know all that?

I like wildlife and I mourn the loss of the red squirrel in this part of the world.
There was a very interesting radio program I heard a couple of years ago and it stuck in my mind.

WARNING: THE GREYS ARE OUT THERE

I hate to be technical about it, but the greys and reds don't interbreed - the greys just outcompete the reds until the reds die out. Greys are better at finding other squirrels' nuts (stop giggling at the back please). Greys can digest acorns, reds either can't or just can't as easily. There is also a disease that greys carry that doesn't do them much harm but kills the reds. They don't actually fight eachother - if they did, I reckon the plucky little reds would kick those grey arses right off the continent.

Poland's coniferous forest may help save it's red squirrel population as the greys don't really take to conifers whereas the reds can adapt to it, although it is not their preference.

But there may come a time (returning to topic), when the name wiewiórka will have to be reserved for old people instead.

Had anybody eaten rydze?

It is possible, but I'm not the mushroom expert I'd like to be.
I had to look them up, and now I want to eat some.

grey

Same with the squirrels here. They are now taking over Italy and it's only a matter of time before they get past the Alps and the cute little red squirrel will be doomed.

everybody had some sort of nickname

Not content with the multitude of forms of Polish names, additional ones seemed to be required (along with their various diminutive forms). I have heard (and even used) the nickname Rudy for someone.

I had a kid live next door with red hair. So you can add 1 one more.

You certainly can, but due to the possibility this 'kid next door' may have already been counted, we're still on 16.

Oh! Alright, twist my arm. 17 it is.

wiewióra

Nothing to do with squirrels? There was a German bloke at work with real proper ginger hair. As many people there were referred to by animal names, he was wiewiórka.

I like your usage of the Latin name. Marvellous stuff. This Latin thing may catch on yet!

Total count on this thread: 16.

Statistically, I don't think this figure should be rounded down - I don't think the same person has been counted twice. But I think there probably are a few more out there who haven't been counted. Yet.

Food / Brussel Sprouts - Polish Style [13]

Poles tend not to use them where a Brit would

What? Like once a year at Christmas... grudgingly!

More seriously, I asked this question somewhere once, maybe a couple of times. I never received much of an answer.
I wasn't talking about using fancy cheese though, which for me, is suprising.

Language / (part 2) Polish Language Pronunciation - Sample Words and Phrases [311]

as long as i dont have to use an "r" i sound ok

I might be able to give you some simple step-by-step instructions to help with this.

On the other hand, a foreign accent can sound quite nice, and if (unlike yourself) you are rubbish at speaking the language, sounding too good can make people think you know more than you do.
