UK, Ireland / UK HATRED TOWARDS POLES GROWING? [122]

I'm not inflaming anything, RN. You are from Ireland but if you have any friends from NI who are coming across, tell them to be careful.

I say this seriously. Ruch Chorzów are amongst the worst hooligans in Poland and I know that things are brewing. I have a contact who tells me things and they don't involve a warming party with top quality vodka and prime sausages.

We'll see the full extent of the hatred in Chorzów. The police have their work cut out for them then. Chorzów is ready to unleash an onslaught.

Life / Warnings about Life in Poland [71]

It's more dangerous than Japan :) Overall, not that dangerous here though. Parts of Scotland are far worse.

News / To whom Zbigniew Brzezinski sold Slavic Poland ? [12]

Well, don't believe everything you hear. He has changed course and condemned George W Bush.

Crow, his main strategy behind going into Afghanistan was to get the Russians out. It was geostrategic. If you can imagine the feeling that some Serbs had for Croats and Mujas, you can imagine how Brzezinski felt against Russia.

Point me to 3 things that he did connected with global hegemony.

Any further talk about: Serbs, Croats, or Slavs in general = Off-topic forum

I think if Poles choose to integrate then most will respond favourably to them. Meeting foreigners should be sth to look forward to and not living like a snail or tortoise.

Work / Specific qualifications for a specific career [23]

Very true, frd. Those who get into programming usually become immersed in it very quickly and build their portfolio.

I like the versatility of teaching. It's sometimes too much of an open book but I still keep the option of flexibility and transferable skills.

History / Bielski Brothers - does anyone know the story? [38]

Jews and Poles alike joined the German patrolling units in Warsaw. Source: Szpilman

In fact, he made the point that far more Jews did that. He himself was a Jew of course.

Scorpio just summed it up beautifully in the first sentence above.

Work / Specific qualifications for a specific career [23]

If there is upward mobility, people are gonna move around more and 'stray' from the path. More and more Poles have the financial means to travel. Sometimes they like it so much abroad that they move there permanently. It depends what you studied but sometimes a degree is only a door opener and a higher degree a means to a bonus.

Love / What are your views (or Polish views) on abortion? [102]

Try a UK forum. There were reportedly thousands of abortions by Polish women there. Very moral ;) ;)

That sounds about right, talking a good game but doing sth completely different.

Life / How do Polish people see Deaf people in Poland? [14]

With their eyes ;) ;) Sorry, I guess they are not accustomed to them. I haven't encountered any deaf people but I guess that they'd adapt like most others.

Life / Love for Dangerous Dog Breeds in Poland [9]

I've noticed that too. Gliwice is quite a conservative city but has its fair share of big dogs. Skinheads tend to walk them :(

Travel / Prague Vs Krakow [34]

Brno is classy, I liked it there. The big city mentality is just that, worth avoiding.

UK, Ireland / The paradox of Polish drivers getting car insurance in the UK [14]

Oh, and the Scots are parragons of virtue, right?

I agree with dnz, I'd far sooner get in a car with a Polish female. My fiancee, for example, is a textbook driver who is as safe as houses. Rythmical and slick :)

Work / Specific qualifications for a specific career [23]

I feel that there is much more to be discussed in this thread. I reckon the deviation from the career path would be quite high. You know, you study diligently for years and then a change of direction. Would this be a fair statement?

Life / Wonderful Poland.......but the attitude of Polish people [150]

The motivational aspect needs a bit of work in some but that's the same in most countries. Incentives tend to be higher in the West so that's another factor.

What we must remember is that we can influence the behaviour of others in our own way.

UK, Ireland / UK HATRED TOWARDS POLES GROWING? [122]

How can UK citizens legitimately complain about the loss of securing key positions when it was a situation that the media had itself created? We have the rat race which involves going at an increased tempo to get a job and then keeping it. We were so smug that we'd hold down positions and put our stamp on our job specification sheet. Many lost out as the Poles were deemed to have better skills and quals than some Brits. That's the price you pay. In competition, there will always be winners and losers.

UK, Ireland / UK HATRED TOWARDS POLES GROWING? [122]

It's connected to self worth and threats. Some are paranoid that others can do a better job than them and thus potentially displace them. Some got a nasty wake-up call by not accepting some job centre positions and Poles slotted in rather nicely. No offence to young Brits but they are waaaaay too image conscious if I can put forward a generalisation. They wouldn't be seen dead doing certain jobs but every person has their place and, if you don't seize it, it will be seized for you.

UK, Ireland / UK HATRED TOWARDS POLES GROWING? [122]

I think torny really hit the nail on the head from what he said. I'd qualify it only slightly by saying that some seem to have a dislike of the Poles, almost intuitively and without reason. I can imagine some disliking the ostensible narcissism of some Poles. I have heard some Polish kids say they have the best of virtually everything and I told them that they are still yet to go out into the world and should reserve judgment until they can make a fair and well-rounded comparison/evaluation.

Still, hatred is rather a strong word when confronted with narcissism as most just laugh it off, knowing better :)

Aha, some sharp cookies here I see. Nobody is so wide of the mark and many are correct but that's all I'll say for now.
