great britain or britain or mainland britain ( whichever way you put it, though it's refered to as Britain my most people) is england, scotland and wales and a couple of surrounding smaller isles. not ireland or the isle of man or jersey. and you can call all these people british
it was THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND ( both north and south )1801 and THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND 1922...

it became the united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland in 1921 after the rest of ireland became autonomous as the irish free state.
