Food / Where do you go shopping for food in Poland? [26]

In the country they usually have their own foods, crops, fruit trees etc

lool, yeah... and they bake bread, make butter and so on by themself.... and for meat they kill animals... of course it isn't true ;P They have some fruits and vegetables, some of them have animals like chicken, pigs, .. but they're not for every day eating... most of them just buy food in local shops...

Life / How come Poles have 2 cars, mobile phones - but make so little money? [23]

How come Poles have 2 cars, mobile phones - but make so little money?

Hehe, there is funny text about it... maybe someone will translate it to English :>

"Polska. Polacy..! Jak wy to robicie..?"

Travel / Vacationing in Poland: Where to go, What to see, and What to expect [16]

and nothing more... ok, maybe Zemborzyckie lake, but I wouldn't swim there :P There are also some nice lakes with clean water near Lublin... about 50-70 km from it (Pojezierze £ęczyńsko-Włodawskie)

and if you like woods, nature... I mean country holidays go to Roztocze (Roztoczański Park Narodowy)

Maybe Nałęczów, Kazimierz Wielki..... - places worth watching.

Life / Why is the average summer temp. in Poland always recorded so low ? [8]

And, they have no air-conditioning in homes or cars.

Yes, but maybe this is even better... better for environment, nobody tells us to save energy... but in many new cars, in offices also in some universities halls there is air-conditioning.

Life / WHY IS POLAND SO DIRTY ???? [44]

Yeah, I do agree. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to go outside home. The other thing... Polish prisoners should be working instead of sitting and doing nothing all day - they can for example clean up the woods.

Life / Smoking ban - will this be coming to Poland like other EU countries? [183]

I will tell you how it is in Poland... you wait at bus stop and there is often somebody who smoke around you, and he doesn't care about others... pubs? discos? eating places? cigarettes are everywhere :/ there is not many places with separated rooms for smokers. What can I say... I'm part-time smoker, but not by choice (and that sux) :/

Life / Polish Name Day celebration [40]

How do you say "Happy Name Day" in Polish.

It is common to say 'Wszystkiego najlepszego z okazji imienin'.

The more I think about it, I think we'll have our usual Sunday dinner, with the family, BBQ, beers , etc, and I'll just say Happy Name Day to him.

In my opinion it is a good idea.

I heard that people receive gifts on their names days. Please give an example. This would be for a man.

Once I got a radio clock, another time bike t-shirt :D ... rather small gifts.

Life / Polish Name Day celebration [40]

I know name days are more important than birthdays to Europeans, but how do you celebrate?

Not for everyone... maybe this depends on age, I mean when you are older and older you don't want to celebrate your b-day :D but for many of us b-day is more important than name day. For example, I don't even celebrate my name day.... it just isn't important for me.

UK, Ireland / Brit Youths Protest Anti-Gay Poland [114]

For me homosexual couples should have the same rights as hetero with one small exception. They shouldn't be allowed to adopt children. That's all.

Language / Funny spam message "in Polish" [2]

Apparently written using a very sloppy automatic English-Polish translator.

Yeah, that's for sure... nobody from Poland wouldn't write this email like that.

Maybe they think that Polish language will not be filtered by spam filters - and they might be right.

Life / To all of you who are Polish - where did you learn English? [64]

Watching subtitled stuff is really a very very good way of learning a language, I'm glad it's this way over here

Yeah, but think about older people now (especially >60 yrs old)... they prefer to listen than read subtitles.

UK, Ireland / How expensive is living in UK/London for one person? [23]

Thanks for advices guys... what about being alone in big city - I got used... i'm often alone in Warsaw while I'm not from there and I know just a few people from W. I'm sure it's a big difference when we are talking about moving to another country, when you will be surrounded with foreign language all the time - but well... it's nothing to lose so probably i will try. I just have to finish some things here in Poland and i'm done.

Ok, gotta go back to work now...

UK, Ireland / How expensive is living in UK/London for one person? [23]

wiem to ale, 2,5-3k GBP is not little

ok, thanks.

Just make sure you have the job and accomodation organised first. London can be a big and scary place to arrive in unprepared im sure.

thanks for advice... I'm sure that at first i will rent some room in hostel or sth (just for first days or maybe for a little longer) and then i will look for a flat.

but doesnt l represent Polish currency? or am i mistaken againif thats in pounds that is plenty to live well

I meant about GBP not Polish zlotys. Good to hear that this is not bad for 'normal' leaving.

But I would advise anyone that London is the last place to live as a single person. If it is possible to find similar work in another city, then that is the better route to take.

It would be hard to find similar job in other places... I work in IT and most of companies are hiring there in London so that is the best route for me at the moment. What about salary... i just told that 35k GBP is average although i'm not sure if foreigners (especially non-native English speakers) are welcomed in English companies.

UK, Ireland / How expensive is living in UK/London for one person? [23]

Hi, I'm thinking about moving to UK/London for a couple of months, maybe a year. Just wondering how expensive is living in London for one person right now? Ok, some more details... There are plenty of articles for Polish people about living there but most of them should be titled 'how much i have spend to survive in London?' :) Say i would like to live alone so i will rent some (typical for one person) flat, i will do shopping sometimes in hypermarkets and sometimes in a local shops.... sometimes i will go to the restaurant, pub, cinema and so on - normal life, nothing special. I won't buy a car - that's for sure.. .so i will use public transport. According to some web pages like jobserve.com i see that avg salary in my proffesion is 35k (from 25k to 45k) L / yr. I'm not asking for exact numbers, just for general calculation... how much i will spend monthly (ok, maybe better question: how much you spend monthly in London) for living including all the taxes and so on? Say i will earn 2,5-3k L monthly, then 1500-2000L would be enough for everything? I would like to save 1k L a month, is this possible?

TIA for any info.
