tell me all about it please. I know of the St. Maximilian church but want to find out more about polishness in the area; stores, clubs, other churches, community centers and whatever may be of polish interest.

Genealogy / My grandmothers: Zbysheski and Simpsi. [7]

try: (maria) zbyszewski

also maryja or marja as those were the way to spell Mary way back then

zbyszeski but in case of a female make sure to search for zbyszeska.

it is also highly possible that the surname is actually spelled: Zbyszewski/a

also, this name may or may not have anything to do with the name Zbigniew.

Simpsi is almost definitely not a polish (slavic) name.

Language / IN ANGLODOM -- MISS KOWALSKA OR KOWALSKI? [5]

it is not required at all as my mom and sis are still both -ska to this day. one has a choice how they want it.

and you're right about the lack of understanding of the slavic fem/masc forms.

News / Polish man goes on trial for defaming the Polish president [7]

he/they do it fine themselves. lol

jonni

right you are but spitting image or SNL are satirical shows thus "immune" from suites but this guys wrote this defamatory stuff on a website which is basically the same as a news paper in the eyes of the courts. so he has to deal with the consequences.

personally, i think all politicians should be ready to be for critisims of the highest level as they are in public view and are supposed to serve us. when they don't then they themselves have to deal with our feelings towards them. what's fair is rair, no?

don't know of any western country where libel is not a good cause for a lawsuit but never heard of prison sentece for it although it is kind of understandable if it is against a political figure.

free speech is only free when it's not used to slander or libel someone. if either of those is true, one may have to pay for their speech.

Life / PAYING TO TAKE A PISS IN POLAND, it's BIZARRE [77]

I live in Canada and couldn't get over the custom of paying to take a goddam leak when out in public. Why is this done? North Americans must hate that cr*p. I know I did. I understand the French also have this custom. Did the Poles pick it up from them?
What other EU countries make you pay to take a p*ss?

actually one must pay to use public restrooms (WC) all over europe but here stateside too. NYC and other places on the east coast charge for bathroom use as well as showers etc.. all coin operated just like in EU.

Life / Is Ritalin available in Poland? [22]

i think your question was anwered but what you really need to do, even though these people seem to be playing doctor on the internet, is to go to a REAL doctor and talk to him about it. i bet, they will not prescribe it unless you are really whack.

americans take way, way, waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy 2 many pills, in general.

Food / Polish National Dish [54]

Ummmmmm, Śledź (=herring) perhaps..., I see so many of the about now.

pickled herring is really a jewish thing not polish but since there were many, many jews in PL before the wars, poles now eat the hell out of them.
