UK, Ireland / Stop the exploitation of Polish workers in the UK [101]

yes but it is your law problem why - not change it that only people with british passport are entitled to it or people from EU but after certain time of staying here ( like 3-5 years)

Yes,I agree it is a problem with the rules/law.Most problems in the UK could be corrected by changing the rules. The biggest problem is our own British people who have never worked but get taxpayers money forever.

Oh, and I've almost forgot about the group of people in UK, that derive the most adventage from the influx of cheap polish labour, mainly the employers.

The employers seem to be the people benefitting most from the influx of Polish labour. The problem now is that some companies are recruiting new workers directly from Poland and not offering the jobs to local British people. This is understandable (the Polish work harder) but it is not good for some locals.

Secondly, it's not that they return with all the money the have earned during their stay in your country. They have to buy food, clothes, pay for rented houses, public transport, for doing their loundry, etc...

I was referring just about those workers getting tax credits.Much of the money they spend will actually be money they get from the UK taxpayers.

News / OK, how bad is the economic situation in Poland? [47]

Nothing wrong with wanting more - each generatioin wants more than the last

It depends how materialistic each individual is.If someone (a couple without children))has a large house, big garden,2-3 new cars, several overseas holidays each year and they are still not content and want more things -then they will never be happy. They can migrate to the USA with its 2 weeks per year holidays and longer hours and have a bigger house with a swimming pool but they will probably still want more.

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

Was I wrong? in light of current events

Yes,you were wrong because you asked why Pakistanis are not loved in the UK.The reason they are unloved is because they cause the Islamic extremist problems.I think you will get a shock if you ever come to UK because unlike Oz black people can live here without too many problems.Hannah Pool - a journalist for the London Evening Standard just returned from Sydney and I wish her report was available online(she is black).I guess the difference between the 2 countries is that Britain admits and tackles its problems while in Oz too many (like you Lef) kid yourselves things are perfect.

no one lives in a perfect society old boy, but at least we are trying to get it right, don't forget the problem was created by true british people in the last century

That's right -blame the Brits.Struth mate, learn your own history - aborgines were being hounded to death as recently as the 1970s/80s - oh I forgot,it cannot have been Aussies because they are perfect.

News / OK, how bad is the economic situation in Poland? [47]

Those people who are migrating and want to stay for good in the UK or elsewhere are making a huge error - an error for which they are going to have to pay.

Nonsense - they will return to Poland with a lot of money.British currency is the world's strongest currency at the moment and when they return to Poland with £ 10,000- £ 25000 cash they will definitely not think they have made a mistake.Wake up.

And what they will do then ?

10.000 pounds is roughly 58.000 PLN. For 58.000 PLN they can buy a 6 year Toyota Land crousier

Wel Wujek,I think you need to actually experience life in other countries. They will buy their car in the UK where cars are much cheaper than Poland. They will then drive back to Poland with their car and their cash and they will either buy a house and look for a job or they will start a business. If you tell these Polish people they are making a big mistake working in the UK,Ireland etc they will just laugh.

I don't know numbers but why so many English people leave England and move abroad ( quite big percentage ) if England is so rich country. people migrate for many different reason.

2 sorts of English people move abroad.

1.Retired people. They like England and have worked all their lives but they do not want to spend every January-May shivering indoors worrying about the heating bills,so they go to Spain,Australia for the sun and cheaper costs(especially if they sell their UK house they will have plenty of money)

2.Whinging Poms. You know these people-they have a good life-even easy life but they are always complaining and see USA etc on TV and think everything is better there.I know a

couple without children here in the UK with a joint income of £100,000,nice house, many holidays etc but they always complain about taxes, quality of life etc. They want to go to USA etc and I tell them to try it.The problem in Britain is many people are spoilt and expect too much (materially) from life.

Remember the UK has not got a good track record for being racially tolerant, sorry

It has a better record than Australia - ask the aborigines or any black person in Australia.

Most people who settle in a foreign country try and do the right thing unless they are given a hard time by the locals

You yourself are complaining about the Islamists

how many polish people do you know that want to settle down in the UK - how many Polish people do you know what come with small children - because I dont know any

Actually,I know many with children. If they actually settle here it would be a good thing.

UK, Ireland / Stop the exploitation of Polish workers in the UK [101]

Of course I am but they're not here to settle down and live in England it's a means to an end - most are young and have no intention of staying

It would be better if they did stay.If they work here for 5 years on a low wage and receive tax credits then they will return to Poland with money but having contributed nothing to the UK.Do you know about tax credits? It means someone (single parent) on minimum wage with 2 children earns £10000 per year, pays £2000 tax but gets back £6000 per year in tax credit payments.Plus free education for 5 years-how is that helping the UK?

Yes Polish people are harder workers and prouder than the English chavs.

UK, Ireland / Stop the exploitation of Polish workers in the UK [101]

Most of the Polish people coming are students on a year break to learn the language and to earn some money to go back to Uni with (please dont say they're not contributing to the econoemy - of course they are tax , NI housing, shopping etc) very few will actaully settle here - after all home is where the heart is.

Yes there are students but surely you must be aware of the many Polish workers who are not students and have lower paid jobs.Like you I do not have a problem with the Polish but sometimes the tax/benefits system means things do not work out as expected.

UK, Ireland / Stop the exploitation of Polish workers in the UK [101]

Well, the workers are going to be given free legal advice and all kind of help and there are going to be people on the ground who will make your local governments more sensible for our peoples needs. This isn`t going to be that way only in the UK, but also in whole Europe, but the UK will come first

Your useless government is 2 years too late.Local UK councils and trade unions are already doing this (some have been doing this for 2 years). Many already provide translation services,Polish language housing/registration advice.

the Polish are in the EU they come to the UK work hard pay taxes - they are helping fill the coffers which improve our infrastructure

One problem Shelley is that after 1 year they are entitled to Tax Credits. This means a Polish worker on minimum wage does not actually pay taxes(they get it back as tax credits) and those on low wages with children are receiving both tax credits and free education and other services.

UK, Ireland / BEWARE when coming over UK [363]

How do you know most are exploited? I have worked with many Polish who get the same pay and conditions as British people. If it was so bad they would not keep coming. Many UK schools are now having problems with the sudden influx of Polish children because they were not prepared.

Talking to Polish people some have been exploited - often by other Polish people.
If you just turn up in another country with no job and no language skills you will find it difficult-but even many of these people find jobs far better than they ever had in Poland. It depends on the person and can be applied to most countries in the world.

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

Well Lef that is a surprising statement because the Pakistanis and many of the Islamic extremists are the same people (surely you must know that). Here in the UK we have no problem with anyone except them.

A new survey says 33% of Londoners are non white. In addition there are the many 100000s Turkish and Arabs(they are counted as white) and many other immigrants from all over the world and Europe but we only have a big problem with one group. Why do you think that is?

Just recently we had Mr Gorbachov here (his second visit) and he liked it, Mr Clinton was here he loved it

They say the same about most countries they go.

UK, Ireland / Stop the exploitation of Polish workers in the UK [101]

As I mentioned in my previous post, GB is part of EU, and person from those countries is entitled to work in GB....its really a issue for the government to solve.

It is only Britain,Ireland and Sweden that allows this.I agree it is the government that caused this problem and can solve it.Regarding exploitation there are some good reputable agencies which recruit mostly eastern Europeans.

News / Poland in big development - what are the negative results? [37]

It depends -also,not Brits but Londoners. They can be different like New Yorkers are different to other Americans.Sometimes the tube is very crowded and people actually find it difficult to stop and help because of the pressure of the crowd behind. But some Londoners on the tube can be a bit weird.Sometimes when they see children on the train they stare like they are aliens.

London i overcrowded, dirty and overpriced for me.

Never go to London in summer-it is dirty and polluted. In winter and autumn it is great.Get the tube to Leicester Square tube station.Walk out and you can see Leicester Square, Piccadilly Circus,Chinatown,Trafalgar Square,Covent Garden,National Portrait Gallery,British Museum all for free.Cheap food can be found in Chinatown.Other Places to see are Natural History Museum,Science Museum,Victoria & Albert museum and many more for free(they used to cost £8 each to enter).London has so much to see at no cost-parks,gardens,other galleries etc.

a girl fainted just before the exit on the tube last time I was there and people just walked on

Yes,unfortunately this is true of the London Underground passengers,

I know that I moan but because I moved from pretty town like Krakow to Peterborough which is ..ok

Actually, there are many beautiful towns in the UK like Chester, parts of Bath etc-but not so many in the South-East (but many pleasant historic villages/market towns etc)

Travel / pickpockets or gangsters in poland? [49]

Statistics mean everything

Imagine this:you are a black student living in a Russian town with strong anti-foreigner feelings. In such towns black students have been killed by thugs and even beaten by the police. So you would never report such attacks to the police/authorities because the police will just laugh and then beat you.So according to the official police statistics for this town things are perfect and there are no racial problems.

That is just one example of why statistics mean nothing.

Poland is receiving billions in aid from UK,Germany,France etc to build up its infastructure.Don't think they will give you this money for nothing.

Ofcourse right now we aren`t in a position to improve Europe for the better, we can only block some of the Euro-leftie silly ideas

Good luck.

So you have have been in the EU for just 2 years and you think you have influence? You will get a shock just like those before (Spain etc).

Peterborough is a large town without character.I can tell you best parts of London to see in one day(avoid when hot).Polish people all seem to live in the worst towns-I guess because they are cheaper for renting.

Truebrit please leave this

I don't care where people came from hundreds/thousands of years ago.You could say that we are all originally descended from a tribe in Africa. It means nothing. If the Jews have lived in Europe for hundreds of years and are white skinned like Europeans then as far as I am concerned they are Europeans.

I can't see this happening in Poland ever.

Actually, things are getting stricter now-they are finally throwing these people in jails etc.I don't know why they allowed it so long. Now you are in the EU you must accept the conditions as well as the benefits. This means it will happen in Poland but be much, much worse.

No!!- I don't like lefties but BBC is like our public tv during communists time, they say what government likes to hear.

Not really true.Previous Conservative govt said BBC was anti-govt and this (Labour)govt says the same.I agree the BBC is too leftie. The Daily mail has always been an anti Labour newspaper so do not believe everything they say.In 1930s they were the only British paper to say Hitler was great.

truebrit the problem is that we are a nation of moaners,we keep moaning even if we shouldn't. we have a saying in poland which says it all:
"najlepiej jest tam gdzie nas nie ma" which roughly translates to : it is always better somwhere else

This is why the Polish are so similar to the British.

Life / Corruption in Poland [14]

I fully agree...the old corrupt and dishonest previous communist are now doing well in the new poland..

It has happened in all the post communist states-I guess its much worse in Russia and China. The same people who would have had you imprisoned/shot for running a business are now themselves earning millions for owning ex state owned businesses. Its a disgrace and also a disgrace that our(British)government allows all these Russian millionaires who stole their wealth to live in London like kings.
