Language / misleading differences between Polish and English languages [92]

When English says absolutely it means yes
When Polish says absolutnie it means no
When English says actually it means in fact
When Polish says aktualnie it means currently
When English says accurate it means precise
When Polish says akurat it means no,you are wrong
When English says ordinary it means usual
When Polish says ordynarny it means rude, unkind
When English says curve it means bend
When Polish says kurwa it means....
Why it's so misleading

Life / Poland High school curriculum [48]

I have never experienced it but i have heard many times that generally it's easier to study abroad than in Poland. And Poles can improve there foreign language. And maybe they bank on a good job there in future. And employers in Poland often prefer hiring those people. And a lot of different reasons i think :) Don't eat me now i just write what i know

Life / Poland High school curriculum [48]

hmm, you know, when students are 13-16 years old they attend to Gimnazjum school, where they learn basics of science. Then they go to Liceum, where they choose several the most important subjects for them. But they recall everything again and learn the same things in more advanced way. It's bad, because at Liceum teachers should teach us a few choosen subjects above all. Gimnazjum works bad, because we should have already known basics at high school and not learn every subject once again, because finally we know everything and nothing and there is no time to improve these choosen subjects which will be useful at university.

Life / Poland High school curriculum [48]

Polish schools have the biggest emphasis on teaching science. Physical education is poor. If students seriously want to practise some sports, they should attend to optional schools or lessons. Of course they can go to specialized school, where they can improve their physical skills, but then they don't learn much other subjects... what is much worse. Art is... funny. Most of students will do nothing if they aren't interested (at ordinary, public high school). But we learn comprehensive science instead... too much useless stuffs i think :)

Love / Meaning of Friendship (my friends is going back to Poland) [57]

plk123

So i see it depends on the person. You are able to choose a few best friends, but not me. I have many friends which i really like and i'm closely, but the best for me is only one. And i can do more with this one than with others and i know we will always help each other. This friend is the most similar to me and i can't imagine that i could meet someone better. I think it's my nature i must find one best friend and be for him.

Love / I have met a wonderful Polish woman, but she has a 9 yrs old daughter [66]

Firestorm i wish you luck but you should be careful. I lost my father when i was 12... i was three years older than her daughter but i think here situation might be similar. I mean, i have had very negative attitude to every man who my mother met. She have found "new friend" too fast for me, i didn't notice when she began flirt with him. I was feeling terrible, because i simply couldn't accept him, in my mind i had only me and my mother, nobody else. I have made many shaming and painful things which i shouldn't do. It lasted pretty long time... Now i know it's her life and i don't mind what she is doing, although i know about their love letters etc, what still makes me a bit sick. I hope your situation will be different and both girls will accept you, but remember about it.

Study / Is foreign (second) language required in Polish schools? [9]

Of course second language is required at schools in Poland, even third. You have to learn it and can't say that you just don't want to do this, because it's one of the compulsory subjects at every school (or almost every). Your doctor will be able to prevent you from participating in physical education if you have got some problems with health, but who can conceive convincing reason for not learning language?:) (If i had that possibility i would be very happy person who doesn't learn physics;) ). Usually you have to learn two foreign languages at school. Many Polish students attend to private schools where they can develop these languages apart from public school.

I go to high school where i should choose several advanced lessons for me. I could choose class with three foreign languages, but i prefer learning exact science, so i have got English and German now. I don't like German, but i learn and i can't help it... :)

Food / What to eat in Poland? (we like rice, spicy food, and chicken) [20]

naleśniki, ryby (filet z mintaja, panga, pstrąg, łosoś, tuńczyk), krokiety, risotto, barszcz, spaghetti, gołąbki (but some of these dishes can be both with meat and without). Generally Polish people prefer meat so here may be small obstacle for you. Enjoy your meal :)
