UK, Ireland / Britain - Land of Milk and honey.. or basis for Lord of the Flies? [17]

I cant talk about this anymore ... its to upsetting.

After reading the article. I'm so fcuking angry. There are levels that people can drop to, but surely not that fcuking low.

When I do the school run it includes a school for children with learning difficulties. This includes children such as the girl in the article. Passers-by take no notice.

I've never seen a child tormented, here in Poland, because of their condition. This doesn't mean that children don't give other children grief. They obviously do sometimes.

News / Poland 2007 Elections: PO Won, PIS second [232]

There is one main paper telling them all how to think, how to vote, what to read, what to buy ... may also how to f****

Make your minds up you guys. Is it the newspapers. Radio Maryja or the debates.

Or was it a judgement based on actually living here in the past few years.

News / Poland 2007 Elections: PO Won, PIS second [232]

If two TV shows are enough for people to change their mind, living in the country to be allowed to vote isn't a good argumentation.

You mean in Poland ?

I have serious problems with polls. But I do take your point.

You contradict yourself and miss the point.

I made the point because I was hoping someone would clarify for me how Polish/Americans vote.
Now that you have helped me to understand better. I would like to take up this point.

only those who HOPE to come back to Poland (now on on their retirement) voted.

These are the people who are voting on a future, based on their distant past. That is why 80% might have voted for PiS and not PO.

So, if I live in Poland, I vote in Poland etc....

I don't have a problem with expats who vote in elections, if they are coming back in the near future. I just don't want people to vote, if they have been away for a certain ammount of time or are not coming back at all.

What did PiS offer to PL Americans? Why would 80% vote PiS?

In my opinion Polish /Americans have been away from the homeland longer than Polish/Brits.
Therefore, they might include some of the older generation who are stuck in the past. Or are so far away that they have lost sight of the Polish reality.

If I am right. Many of those Polish/Americans will never come back to Poland, yet they have the right to vote on my children's future.

If I had my way anyone who has been out of the country for more than four or five years should lose the right to vote.

News / Polish Election Poll (according to PolishForums) [237]

in Poland were always accurate, about 0,4 % of mistake so ... we will have results

I have no problem with that. I want to know the result as soon as possible.

News / Polish Election Poll (according to PolishForums) [237]

I went to vote about an hour ago. Usually one room is used, in a local school, for this purpose. Today, two rooms and long queues. I've never seen anything like it in Poland.

I cut a trip short just so I could cast my vote and on the train home I bumped into someone who took the same, earlier, train home. She was also determined to make her point.

So I expect a big turnout, but I don't know if it will change the result.

UK, Ireland / Do polish people honestly think its a better life in the uk? [17]

[quote=anuska] Do polish people honestly think its a better life in the uk?
anuska

I don't think that those going to the UK think enough about the city they move to. London always seems to be the first choice. But is it the best choice ?

It's only a better life, if you can get by with one job and put money in the bank.

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

I think it's clear what I'm saying. In order to guarantee work, Polish workers have shown that they will work for less. Building companies are taking full advantage of this.

using migrant workers as an excuse?

To pay less. Yes.

AvJoeUK,

Pasaz Grunwaldzki

This has got to be the worst ever building in Wroclaw. It is a bloody eyesore. It is very difficult to find anyone who likes it.

UK, Ireland / Polish Thoughts on Britain and the British [273]

I don't understand how Polish people are harder workers than their British counterparts.

When I was working in the building trade I was paid a daily rate and usually a bonus. It stands to reason that anyone being paid a bonus will put in more effort. Also. some building jobs are paid according to a fixed price. So the quicker you do it, the quicker you can move on to the next job.

Experience is what counts and some people who are well organized can appear to work slower, but in fact achieve more.

The last time I worked in the UK was almost twenty years ago. The going rate offered by building companies on this forum is no higher than I was earning all those years ago.

Polish immigrants and others are without doubt dragging pay rates down and building companies are obviously using the "hard workers" statement as an excuse to pay less
