Life / Smingus-Dyngus - Polish tradition [155]

We always did that in Poland with my brothers and sisters and cousins and neighbors. We had bottles, pails, squirt-guns whatever and we would hide on the roof, behind buildings, from windows, etc. Lasted the whole day.

Big water-fights!

That's why so many Polish guys are looking for Polish girls, they just don't get it! They keep drenching them with water so no wonder the polkas look into other nationalities who don't know about smingus-dingus

I know some people in the US who came here to earn some money. Well, it wasn't what they expected. They had to work hard, had to pay bills, overstayed their visas, are here illegally and after 7 years they want to go back to Poland. They miss their country, they never learned the english language, no relatives here and they feel homesick, so they will be returning to Poland this year.

Some people find it harder to adjust, having friends and family in Poland to return to, memories, others don't want to return, working for the almighty dollar.

Money is not everything.

Yes, it's called a "cło". Anything to do with technology, you have to pay more duty for it.
Years ago, when hand-held calculators were new in the US, they were practically unheard of in Poland and my dad sent us one to Poland and we had to pay an enormous custom duty on it and the thing wasn't even worth it. My dad got it for free!

The pay in Poland might be less, but do they take out so much for taxes? Is the housing as expensive as in the US or Canada?

Let's say you make $3.000/month. After taxes you get $2.000, house payments $1,200 (That's how much I paid). That leaves you with only about $800/month. Add to it car payments, gas, credit cards. People struggle everywhere.

Brian, that is really nice to hear.
I know Polish people who come to the US and if something breaks down, they go and fix it, but in the US they go and buy a new one.

And they are very hard-working
And they come up with solutions others couldn't imagine
And they invent new things
And good cooks
And good sense of style
And very clean

Language / Polish Translation software [24]

Rosetta Stone offers good Polish lessons and so does byki.com. Poltran does translations but a human is best for accurate translations. Computers cannot translate sentences properly because they translate words exactly and in turn don't make sense in Polish.
