Life / Moving to Poland next year, want to bring my Nissan Skyline [46]

Roads are awful ("motorway" from German border to Wroclaw is interesting experience if you want to rearrange your internal organs).

Yes, but only on an 80km stretch. LOL

The Poland.. German road is fine though.

Love / Polish-Islam Relationship Union [450]

well islam is not what muslims do , its what they should do.

I see a basic problem. You are saying that muslims don't follow the teachings of the Qar'an. They don't do what they are taught from their holy book or what they should do as taught in their holy book..

Then they are not followers of Islam, Are they ?

I do look back on the life of Christ and his teachings. And I'm not a Christian. I'm still learning.

obey his orders in sincerity so that you may feel peace in your heart and soul.

Does this include a rape victim sentenced to 90 lashes ? Obviously not.

Genealogy / The lost city of Klebel in Poland. [8]

mklebel,

We are not here to pander to your needs. We help where we can.
The article explains exactly where Klebel is, even if the spelling doesn't suit your needs.

Now go to 'JewishGen' for alternative spellings.

'Cause no muslim woman can't marry a man who are not muslim.

I assume you mean can and not can't.

If so. Here is why

If you converted from Islam to Christianity they would probably kill you.

A religion ruled by men I think.

She respects my wishes and I could not be happier.

Do you respect hers ? Or do you point out where she is wrong ?

Love / Things not to do with a Polish girl? [97]

Just don't want to offend her.

Then be yourself. Look back on your experience with other girls and take it from there.

And stop talking to her friend so much... she is obviously passing on your thoughts.

Love / Things not to do with a Polish girl? [97]

I know it's rude to correct people's english, but if no one ever says anything, you never learn.

True. But it's also wise to check your own posts before making such a comment.

finding relatives, stefaniak family

Buddha girl, you are from the north-east. There is a Polish church and Polish club in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. There has been a Polish club in the area for at least thirty years that I know of. It might be worth a try asking some of the older folk at the club. Of course there might be more than one club, but it's still worth a try.

Most Polish who settled in the north-east, around WWII and before, were Jewish. If this applies to you then check Jewish records for the area.

Green Card Marriage ad leads to arrest

If you find that your life is in a mess and the only way out is a green card then you'll get the benefit of the doubt from me. Just don't lie to your partner and don't get caught out with an obvious advertisement.

have been seeing a lot of PolishForums.com post show up in my Google searches

Sometimes they are top of the first page. I've used google/yahoo to find some of my own posts. With 'key words' anyone can find anything in an instant.

Life / Brits moving to live in Poland [88]

this is a country which is going through enormous change at the moment, but a change in the right direction.

I don't entierly agree with this. In places the change is taking place too quickly and seemingly without thought. I'm thinking of the new buildings that are going up..... office blocks, for example. Fine examples of modern design in totally the wrong place.

It might be business, but I find it sad.

News / The most useless things in Poland [140]

I'm afraid that's a pretty unfair generalisation. The new developments, both residential and commercial, that I've seen recently are of a far better quality, in terms of workmanship, than here in the uk.

I could fill a page pointing out where I disagree. I'd be happy to discuss it on a new thread.

cusine is crap

Go to the shop... buy meat and potatoes a few other veg.... and cook your own dinner.

Then, if the cuisine is still crap you only have yourself to blame.

UK, Ireland / 13,000 Polish births this year, in the UK [180]

noimmigration,

What is the difference between... Poles who work in Britain and send money home.... and Brits who have been working in Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Gulf, since the 70's.

The Brits don't or at least didn't pay tax and they worked with the express reason of sending money home to build their future.

I can't see any real difference between the two.

And don't forget the days of "Auf Wiedersehen Pet". Ten to a room and sending money home.

The way I see it you don't have a valid arguement.

News / The most useless things in Poland [140]

Why can,t they make light fittings that actually fit to the ceiling rather than dangeling on the wire four inches below it.....

This is true of chandelier type fittings. The above does show up shortcommings in Polish building techniques.

Electricity sockets that come out the wall when you pull the plug out.

Shopkeepers and taxi drivers who react like you've pointed a gun at them when you try to pay with a 100zl note.

So true.

History / Chicago Public Radio on *Polish* concentration camps [62]

Concentration camps were the invention of Germans, so let the Germans take credit for them.

Some would argue that they were the invention of the British........... in South Africa.

Life / The Criteria of Living in Poland [4]

What are the criteria.

Depends on your needs. House or flat. Land or no land.

What are your expectations ?

I have no need of employment.

Because you are young and retired, elderly and retired.

How do you hope to fit in ?

Could I do that?

If you have the will, Why not ?

Spend some time here [Poland]. Have a long look around and then decide.

Life / Modern Trams in Wroclaw - disappeared? [5]

but now they have brought them back in one city ,

I saw the Manchester trams on the news a few days ago. They looked modern. The trams that afc1903 is talking about look futuristic. They are the bees knees.

To be honest I never noticed they'd gone. But I'm sure that I was on one, two or three weeks ago. Also, I've only ever seen them on route 6.

News / interview with Donald Tusk (Financial Times) [41]

Thatcher may well have been the catalyst for what UK is today, but she went about it in quite the most brutal fashion......

This can't be disputed.

But. In the article Tusk answered a question and referred to KGHM. I think Tusk is well aware of Thatcher's mistakes and has no wish to do the same. However, I believe a number of Polish workers, especially those in government institutions, will find themselves out of work. I also believe that many Polish companies will be bought out, which will also cause unemployment.

Tusk seems to be banking on foriegn investment and new companies being formed....to soak up the new unemployed.

UK, Ireland / If I was to move to Poland from Ireland... [92]

in Poland once it started raining, you knew not to expect anything better that day, and it was more likely to continue raining :o)

I think it depends on the season. Sometimes the weather can be very up and down. At other times you really do know what you're in for. Autumn is very unpredictable, whereas Summer is easier to gauge.

Life / Free School Bus Services in Poland - do they exist? [12]

In any given area kids of the same age don't all go to the same school. Except in the countryside.
So, it's easier to use public transport in the city.
In the countryside public transport may be timed to fit in with school hours, which can make it bloody difficult for anyone else.

Not all pupils start school at the same time of day nor do they finish at the same time. which is another problem for a school bus service. It's bad enough organizing the 'school run' for two or three of them.

UK, Ireland / British/Polish baby [29]

Any ideas?

Not being married might make it more difficult.

Usually you have until the child is five years old. I could be wrong though.

Check with the British Embassy or maybe the Home Office.

Real Estate / property in Lodz - anyone any experience [102]

Hello! I'm hoping to invest in a property in Lodz soon.

It might be worth your while to look for a property near a new business development... shoping centre, office block etc.
Things are changing fast in many cities. I notice more money coming into my neighbourhood, in Wroclaw, simply because we have a new office/home development opening soon.

Life / Polish men living and working together with other men - is it normal? [16]

littlestar,

The only thing I can think of at the moment is for you to learn a little Polish. Using a little of the language might help you in conversation. It might lighten the mood when you get it wrong... a little humour helps.

I'm sure there are plenty people here with better ideas than mine. Just give them time to reply.
