Language / Anyone use "SERWUS"? [46]

In other countries yes, M-G. However, Torq is right. The bike repair guy clearly uses it as 'don't mention it, I'm at your service'. I can hear it in his tone.

Life / Poles that have lived or live abroad are they different? [68]

Southern, that's an anti-social statement. Why shun Poles for going out and drinking alongside Brits? Why have a hack at those who go to integration activities through clubs, speeches etc etc?

WB, I don't know how it is in Wrocław but I don't see too much drinking on the streets here. I often see old dudes with unopened beer bottles or cans in their hands, usually cans as they are cheaper.

It really depends on how much they integrate abroad. If they stay in their own little enclaves, they are gonna be as they have always been. Those that nip off for some Tyskie, a jar of pickles and some Polish bread will likely be trying to recreate home but with more money under their belt.

Those that mingle with the locals will be influenced by them. One of my sister's Polish friends has taken to speaking Scottish at every opportunity and said that he doesn't want to return to the morbid humdrum existence that he had here.

History / Marek Edelman (1922 - 2009) [14]

RIP for sure. He fought for all those innocent Jews who did nothing wrong. They have different business methods that Hitler couldn't accept and what he did to them was unforgivable.

Viva la resistance!

Life / What's really cool about Poland - A new boy's point of view [6]

Poor man! Whisky is whisky in almost any language. You just concealed that from him for a laugh, LOL ;)

Well, when you are accustomed to people who drop their guard and are more open then it can be a problem, plk.

Life / Who drinks more: Poles or Russians? [50]

It tends to go down the hatch pretty smoothly. Try Pan Tadeusz vodka here, it's a little more expensive but you know where your money goes. I've heard good things about Dębowa vodka though I've never tried it.

Good on ye, man. Poland really has a lot going for it but so many don't see that. When you catch a party in full flow, you are in for a treat. The biggest problem of Poles is that they don't drop their guard but when they do.....

Poland is a happening place to be, it'll only get better.

I've never heard of that drink, blueboy. The balzams in Latvia was super potent, only 45% but there was sth 'different' in there.

Life / Poland not so cheap anymore!! [47]

The Scottish way is not to pay it at all ;) ;) Always slip off and let another poor sod foot the bill ;0 ;)

Just kidding. Harry, you seem to be full of crap, sorry.

14 pints, that's nuts! I'm waterlogged after 6 these days. Stella is stronger so let's say 5 pints is more than enough. The feeling after 3 pints is quite good. I've had 12 shot measures of whisky tonight which is about 6 beers. Still, less liquid inside me and food too so I feel fine. I remember those days in Scotland, though. 7 beers and things were hazy.

Food / What is this? Dark whisky Scottish or Polish? [58]

Too much Grants Scotch is slowing me down but I get your joke. Good one, sledz :) :)

Chivas perhaps isn't objectively the best but it's super value for money. Perhaps the best in that department. I was born not far from the distillery so I'm a little biased :)

What on earth is a picture of the Queen doing as your avatar, fella? ;)

Well, my first instinct was to say Tusk but he follows the footie and enjoys a few beers apparently so it's hard to say. Putin is a control freak who may crack under pressure.

NOT a good idea, southern. Scottish people have died from that nonsense. There were whisky-drinking competitions which went badly wrong. Respect your body :)

Aha, Polmos fairly spread the net wide. They have a decent rum in Galeon. I didn't try that whisky but dtaylor has I think. I just don't like the idea of dark whisky. I think I educated the Makro staff a little on what's good and what's not.

You can promote it with Scots but not as Scotch :) Sean Connery did a commercial for Suntory Zen. It was 950 yen if I remember, about a fiver. The bottle was a decent size too. As a Scot who likes whisky, I'd say it was very good value for money.

Life / Polish Protestants [22]

I'd love to hear from some Polish Protestants. Us Scots are more aware of the Catholic/Protestant divide. Students here learn the Catechisms but that shouldn't preclude the teaching of Sola Scriptura and other Protestant Reformation texts.

UK, Ireland / Sad life of a Polish immigrant in the UK. Ch. 2 - Stress [63]

Spot on again, spiritus. They feed themselves pessimistic and defeatist nonsense. Come on, show us that the Polish spirit is defined differently than the hating of Russia and Germany.

News / WHARTON AND COELHO IN POLAND? [10]

I need to hunt down some works by these authors but I have some reading for the moment. Alex Kava and Marcin Bruczkowski should keep me entertained over the weekend.

Have any Poles here read Birdy (Ptasiek)? It's a critically-acclaimed book.

I was in Makro and discussing it with a member of staff. She insists that this is a Polish whisky. They snuck the Scottish expertise in through the back door, I think.

I heard it a fair bit in Austria right enough. There are many other ways, siema being another popular one.
