History / Walentego Badlaka's well in the market square, Krakow (Katyn) [13]

in this place on the day of 21st of march 1980 WB, a soldier of the national army, completed a dramatic act of selfburning in protest agains demoralization of youth, the destruction of art and against the secrecy of murders of polish officers at Katyń by the commy/bolshevik murderers.

he couldn't live with lies. he died for the truth.

Feedback / PolishForums.com mission needs to be plastered on the front of this forum [49]

Ah I see now. It's better to be reading an interesting thread and then suddenly it's fighting and insulting mixed in with the on-topic posts. Silly me, I assumed it was better to have nicely flowing threads without having to read people having personal arguments in them.

if that was all the meddling, i don't think it would be a problem.. but the meddling is like no other forum i've ever been to. it's very heavy handed at times.. at least half the time, it makes no sense..

Are you saying Admin has no control in his Forum ?

in a way, he does not.. when he tries to ever correct things, like he does, he pisses people off.. he tends to meddle a bunch with people's posts which drives many away.. if he tries even more/harder, he'll kill this place..

Language / WHY "HIGH FEE" for HIFI in Polish? [12]

"i" in high is pronounced "aj" (in Polish transcription), while in in "fidelity" it's just an "i" (again in Polish transcription).

HUH? fi is fee and hi is hee.. that's all there is to that.. high is haj though.

no its a french thing. crepes/pancakes for breakfast. highly unusual

americans love their pancakes and waffles.

there really aren't pancakes in poland that's why they translate it to 'nalesniki' everytime.

USA, Canada / US auto bailout [49]

I hope they won't get it! It's propaganda with the big 3! If they go bust then there will be no union and people will not make $100K just to screw a screw in a wheel. Then the company would have to rehire those workers and pay them $30K to $50K and problem is solved. A lot of money will be saved in the future by letting them fall!

BUT IT WILL COST AMERICA DEARLY IN THE MEAN TIME.. PROBABLY MORE THEN THE BAILOUT.

If people would live within their means, then we would never have our present financial problems

THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CURRENT FINANCIAL ISSUES

USA, Canada / US auto bailout [49]

You may laugh, PLK123, but management signed those contracts.

i sure didn't say that they did not but i surely wouldn't say it was all free will either. that is not how the unions work.

i disagree with you on the quality comparison.. i have driven many fords, a chevy a couple of nissans, toyotas, hondas and a benz. all the cars made over seas were hands down better in quality compared to anything coming out of detroit. even the nissan that i had that was made in japan was way better then the same model made here stateside. all the foreign cars were also way more reliable and easier to work on when they did need some help. that's all in my experience, no bs. that's why i think, the big 3 even if they survive will have issues for as long as they put out crap.

however, i do agree with you on the bad managment in motor city but even when directives were coming out of Stuttgart or Berlin, chrysler was still making junk.

Language / POLONIANISMS? [11]

kiszka

actually that's colloquial polish man.

"false friends" as in:
Nasze amerykańskie dżemy i konfitury są pełne prezerwatyw.

huh?

and really there is no such thing is polonianism, it's just simple bastardization of polish language, in this case.

USA, Canada / Why would someone leave Poland for the US? [120]

where i live almost all poles are highly educated.. very few are blue collar. almost the whole bunch came here to the states in the 70s, 80s and a few in the 90s.

maybe chicago is a hub for those that can't hack it anywhere else and need the polish community to make it here.

on the other comment you keep making: i have no accent and 99% of people never even guess i could be anything but an american but americans do not care what others think of them. they tend to discount any opinions that are made by non-americans. that is just the fact of things here. they may listen to be polite and but in the end your opions means ziltch to them. that is what i predominantly see here.

USA, Canada / Why would someone leave Poland for the US? [120]

Oh, come on; Poles are coming to America by the score. I live here. I see it all the time.. True, some leave. But the majority stay. America is a wonderful country. Like someone on here said.. Love it or leave it. We dont need anymore immigrants. But America is here for those who choose to stay

that's what i see too.

Life / Rudeness of polish people when they are drunk [43]

I have been living in poland for nearly 3 years. One thing that i am noticing recently is the rudeness of some polish people when they are drunk.

just when drunk? are you drunk most of the time then?

there? which there are you from? if you're from the states, maybe you don't get out much then because any and all foreigners are completely discounted in most circles.

Krakowianka

wow.. you have no clue do you.. for one, those words were inscribed by a foreign power... the french.. for the other, things don't work that way here in the USA, not at all.. tell someone you're not ana american citizen and see how long they listen to you then..

same thing with the immmigrants.. some were country folk but a lot of inteligensia left during the commy times.. more of them then your country folks.

the biggest country folk migrations were during ww2 or just after and all the migrations prior to that.

ok so for those that want to limit the freedom of expression of immigrants to america do you think that your ancestors didnt complain when they arrived? I am sure that mine did...

that's just all idealistic, just like krakowianka's regurgitation but that is not the case on the ground. it is exactly how sledz stated it. you don't have to believe it but that is how it is.
