Life / Worrying observation about Polish attitudes to lying and cheating [62]

But people who come from free countries which have never being occupied don't feel it in the way how we do

I can see your point, but I cant condone cheating, its just wrong and what does anyone actually gain from it?? People get hurt and people get found out...so no real good comes out of it.

Life / Worrying observation about Polish attitudes to lying and cheating [62]

I personally dont like lies, liers always get caught out...like the time I said I was staying at a friends but really went clubbing (at 15 my parents really didnt think it was acceptable to do) so my father made damn sure I knew what the consequences of lying were....the bruises took several days to fade and I learnt quick that lying wasnt an option...my clubing days were short lived at 15!

Basically liers and cheats are always found out because they trip up on lies...

Im not saying I havent told a couple of white lies along the way through life (phoning in work sick after going on a bender the night before - I say Ive been sick, I was I just didnt tell them the whole truth to why I was sick), that would be a lie!

As for cheating in exams, the only person you are cheating is yourself...whats the point..

A survey was taken about how many people lie on their c.v. again whats the point...

Travel / Why is Poland so Un-Sexy? [84]

Czech Rep (Prauge) . has been ruined over the years and if you call that sexy then I have to disagree, Budapest is ugly and the spa's are full of old naked women, that certainly isnt sexy..Krakow had lots of bars, plenty of totty and damn good night life...that I would say is sexy!

I feel that Arrrh has had some bad experiences in Poland...

UK, Ireland / Poles in GB: Why did you go - for money or something else? [53]

and i really miss them, but don't want to have such a pityful life as they have there... maybe i'm just too proud or sth. that i don't want to clean british toilets with my diploma

That really doesnt have to be the way, there are jobs in the UK for Polish - my friend (Polish) is working for the Royal Bank of Scotland (very large bank / insurance...etc. finger in every pie), she doesnt have her degree yet, she's over here on a year out with her boyfriend, who is also doing very well..also not cleaning toilets,

Like i mentioned before, graduates do well over here, you just need to know where to look

google.com/support/jobs/bin/static.py?page=students.html
google.com/support/jobs/bin/static.py?page=students.html
uknetguide.co.uk/Employment/Jobs/Graduate_Jobs.html

have a look at these sites, maybe you'll change your mind and prospects in the UK

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

It the same here, always there to clear up as soon as you finish always there with the bill if no coffee ordered...I suppose it will change, I always tipped though, and I wouldnt do that in the UK if I got bad service, I suppose because the food and drink were so good I forgot about the bad service..:)

News / What are your 10 fave things about Poland? And 10 least favourite? [130]

This is shallow, consumer Society.

Yep, people dont have time for family these days, too busy making money and spending it...sad but true, but some English value family and I suppose it comes down to what you have been brought up with

"cold as a fish"

We like to call it being reserved, again its all down to how you are brought up and what you know and are used to.

As things I liked about Poland, everything apart from poor service, but hey you cant have everything can you??

Love / Rules for dating Polish girls [189]

I like men who know what they want

confident but not cocky, hard to find these days, most men are intimidated by women who do well

Work / Polish Labor Is Scarce as Workers Go West [60]

Unfortunately, I have MA in Polish Philology and Culture Studies

I dont want to sound rude when I say this, but its not really a practical degree.. English with these kinds of degrees dont end up in their chosen field, but a degree will get them in the door for other kinds of jobs most large companies in the UK run graduate schemes that are funded by the government, so the education isnt completely wasted..

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

Im pretty chilled on hols so dont really mind waiting, but when you ask for the bill and it takes the about 20 minutes to get it and you see two waiters there chatting without a care in the world it does start to pissed you off....got chatting to some Polish people and they told us, if you are only staying for one drink ask for the bill when they bring the drinks, avoids hanging around....best advice I got..:)

Work / Polish Labor Is Scarce as Workers Go West [60]

university diplomaS as a toilet paper, like my well-educated, young, beautiful Polish friends .

if you got your degree after Poland joined the EU and your english is good, there is no reason you wouldnt be able to get a good job here...There was a progamme on the other evening and Polish people were interviewed, one was an accountant the other a trainee journalist....hardly toilet cleaners...Polish people with the right qualifications are doing well in the UK

Both interviewed have no intention of returning to Poland any time soon, both were female and in their early 20is and loved the fact that they were not under any pressure to marry and pop out sprogs....

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

I am sorry folks but I like my beer really COLD. After a week in England I got use to asking for a glass of ice with my beer. I would get some strange looks but they would realize I was American and understand. It was funny though.

Im English and never had warm beer.

I cant really honestly think of anything I found strange in Poland - oh actually one thing, if I receive service off a Polish person in the UK its exceptionally good, but in Poland it was dire

British architecture and design in the 60's was hideous, awful apartment blocks.

Highrise flats.....hmmmmm lovely....the aroma of piss in the lifts!!!!

carpets in the bathrooms??????

Also if Arrrrhhh took his time to visit the countryside in the deepest darkest points of wales he would see plenty of strange country folkes....

UK, Ireland / I understand poles coming to uk [196]

why should i employ some dodgy-as-f*k british builder who is going to charge me silly money for sitting on his fat ar*e all day drinking tea... had a bloke... and his little mate... in last year to do some plastering... took them four hours... including a two hour lunch break... and half a bag of plaster and the radge wee c*nt wanted 4OO sovs... guess where i told him to go...

you were lucky they finished the job, a friend of mine was having an extension done and they buggered off half way through! - he paid 3/4 of the amount....he had to get some else in to finish the job!...would have been cheaper to buy a new house!!

tolerant and we absorb other things from other cultures into ours,

but whats left of us if we absorb everyone elses???

Work / Poles Go to Work Abroad [30]

I cant agree with that. Wages are better only for builders who all are abroad. Nothing is changing, going abroad for work is very trendy.

I can only speak for one Polish person I know, I helped her get in the finance sector (well I got her an interview - she did the hard bit) she earns about 7 pound an hour...for a clerical thats a pretty good wage by British standards for a junior member of staff, she gets paid leave and all the same perks that the other staff have she is only on a contract because she goes back to Poland next Sept. to continue her studies, but the company has a student scheme and Im sure if all works out well, she will have a job there the in summer holidays for as long as she wishes. The pharmacist at my Boots chemist is Polish and they get paid well, its not just construction where Polish are doing well, the Polish that have got their degrees after they went in to the EU can use their degrees over here and they are, Polish accountants, Polish teachers, Polish Journalists...you name it they are doing it...

UK, Ireland / BEWARE when coming over UK [363]

Property in Spain still quite reasonable, my best friend has an apartment on the Mijas Costa, lots of English out there, most the hairdressers out there are English in that region, internet cafe bars, you name it, its there, but there are still some lovely Spanish villages..Cost of living quite good too and the food in the supermarkets is wonderfull (if you like spanish products its cheap)

My advice to you Saf is to do it now if youre going to do it, youre still really young, its different for me at my age, much as I would love to leave not sure I could settle anywhere...You seem to have a good head on your shoulders...you wouldnt have a problem

UK, Ireland / BEWARE when coming over UK [363]

i agree with when in rome....the government in this country needs to listen to people as parties like the BNP thrive on this kind of feeling and can get easy votes because of it

It wont until its too late, more riots, more people going over the BNP and eventually you'll see whole different country....not sure its one I really want to live in, might move to France...lol

UK, Ireland / BEWARE when coming over UK [363]

No offence shelley,

None taken, my point about being british I cant really define..

Saffron - you hit the nail on the head, people who you would not think in million years are going over to the BNP, people are worried about the future of Britian and the British, I dont really think class has a lot to do with it, I always thought that the Torys were were a bit on the racist side but obviously polite with it....

The more certain minority groups demand and get more your average brit will start to get annoyed, there used to be a joke (might only be a northern thing so Mr H might get - if you apply for a job at the local council and you're a one legged, lesbian muslim you've got the job, you've filled all the quota's

I posted once about my friends little girls school being told that they weren't having easter this year because it might cause offence other kids of different religions...Last year Oxfam and another charity shop were told that they were not allowed to put up xmas decorations because this also might cause offence to other religions...what happened to the the addage "when in rome" I think people feel that we are losing so much because of others intolerence to Western ways...These are the things that are turning people to the BNP..

UK, Ireland / BEWARE when coming over UK [363]

The point Saffron made about the BNP is true, but they are gaining more and more power and seats in constituencies where people are a bit like Enoch Powell and his views on immigration about 40 years ago....people in their 60is and 70is find it difficult to embrase a multi-cultural society...Even though we have had different cultures / nationalities here for many years, the country is being flooded and I dont see a happy ending......We're finding it hard to cope with the influx, our national health service is bowing under the pressure of patients, the benefits system is being drained and schools are struggling...It is true our economy is supposed to be strong but as a country we are finding it difficult and the average brit is starting to question what is happening.....

Nothing really British about Britain anymore, which is a shame

UK, Ireland / STAFF LINE - RECRUITMENT AGENCY FOR POLISH [7]

But to bo honest if some people move here they don't speak English and don't even try much.... it is their fault and they are quite vunerable as they canit even read their contract properly.

Thats so true, the two professionals they interviewed had perfect english...
