News / What sort of fellow is this Donald Tusk anyway? [34]

Kashubians (Kashubian: Kaszëbi; Polish: Kaszubi; German: Kaschuben), also called Kassubians or Cassubians, are a West Slavic ethnic group of north-central Poland.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kashub

if this Tusk was a an admirer of Josef Pilsudski, I think this is a good thing and would be a plus as far his presidential viewpoint.

I think that it was risky thing to writte about Pilsudski in communism times, and I would rather consider this fact as symbol of resistance against commies.

News / Poland 2007 Elections: PO Won, PIS second [232]

NYT about the result of our elections.

Poland's voters have rendered a clear, negative judgment on the fearmongering political style of the Kaczynski twins - President Lech Kaczynski and Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski - and their 15 months of joint rule. They decisively rejected the Kaczynskis' Law and Justice Party, turning instead to the center-right, pro-business Civic Platform, whose leader, Donald Tusk, is now expected to become prime minister.

Thread attached on merging:
Top of the class in England - but Polish boy goes home for better educati

Polak

:) it is good sign

When Aleksander Kucharski arrived in Britain from Poland, he expected he would get a first-class education.

He was accepted at a Roman Catholic state school which boasts one of the best academic records in the country and is recognised by Ofsted as outstanding.

But after two years he is so disillusioned that he has gone home to his old school, saying his British classmates were interested only in shopping and partying.

I wanted to show that Tuski and PO have roots in Solidarity in anty-commie opposition. Accusing them of being "red" isnt ok. Our society is mature enought to choose their leaderes form people who were on right side in the past.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

I call my Polish and Russian brothers and sisters to arise their voice in protection of Lusatian Serbs which are in agony.

I think that Russian voice in Germany will be much better heard. ;)

As to you Crow.

You are really patriotic Slav ;). I m curious about your future (Serb) I think you should folow your neighbours ... and forget about Russia.

as to your post:
Interesting German Slavs, I thought they were fully asimilated.

What a biased CV is this? I might not agree with JK on many issues but I don't question his past in opposition. Try to be at least a bit objective and not like some hardcore party apparatchick.

Oh yes, when Kacz. joined opposition ? He was really little boy there. Now he wants to be first anty-commie. When Tusk risked everything in '81 Kaczysnki prefered to stay at home, he was from good family, he had to study. Now he is first anti-commie. Just think why young people havent bought him ... And they prefere Tusk, who is form poor family, who worked as lauborer for his studies ... and Tusk is liberal :)

Tusk is OK

Tusk has very interesting biography. He is from very poor family his father died when he was 14. He worked as lauborer. He joined opposition and was fighting against commie regime.

When we compare Kaczynski biography ... he is so little boy... When Tusk was taking part of what happened in '81. Kacz. decided to stay home and study ... marksist law... because he have choosen one of the most hated by oppositionist specialization on University ... no comment.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

ok so maybe British point of view (in some way neutral) on relationships between some new members of EU and Russia. And which country lives in the past.

The Friendship pipeline snakes all the way from Siberia to the largest oil refinery in Eastern Europe, in Lithuania.

bbc.co.uk/blogs/thereporters/markmardell

It is noticeable that our point of view is more and more popular among old EU members.

What I want add there is article about Lithuenia next is about Poland and next about Latvia.

in 2005 everything was prepared, Ukraina, Georgia and next should be Russia... but prices of oil increased and their regime got some money... ehh we have to wait for next opportunity. If you read posts of another Russian on this forum you will notice that they want democracy ...

"We" don't hate Swedes, right ? ;) LoL

right :)

insignificant margin, just call it 50-50

yes what is noticable, in eastern Ukraina prefere Russians (there is big Russian miniority), central and west Urkaina prefere Poles. But every year it changes and they more and more prefere Poles :) because all we want is their independence. Ukrainian independence one of our strategic aims, and we kicked Russians a s s in 2005. Using diplomacy and positive power of democracy. They still strugle but last elections were democratic so it works ...

Show me any historic patterns, when rich nation could take world? Romans? But they were poor fellowas in comparison with Greeks or Carthago! May be Mongols? But they were only a small branch of nomad tribes. To tale a world you must have only two things, burning desire and courage!

:) Putin modern Mongol warrior :) Chingis Han. Poor beaten but proud and couragous. I hope your citizens will notice that Ukraina is democratic and will ask for the same. If not you will be beaten once again.

Oh I think that such problem (on which side Poland ought to be) won't appear before this country, because in any case it will be crushed at first seconds of fight.

News / Poland 2007 Elections: PO Won, PIS second [232]

heheh I feel irony, but you Russinas in my opinion are in trouble. PiS and Kaczynski was so easy to play with them. It was sa easy to put them into stereotype of peiople whos directions comes from fear and phobies. Now we have more sophisticated players. It is enought to look on PO candidate on Foreigin affairs misnister. Radosław Sikorski ...

Radosław "Radek" Sikorski

Sikorski was much involved in the Solidarity unrest in the late 1970s, and chaired the student strike committee in Bydgoszcz in March 1981. Stranded in Britain when martial law was declared in his homeland in December 1981, he studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Pembroke College, University of Oxford. While at Oxford he was a member of the infamous all-male dining society The Bullingdon Club, whose members included the leader of the British Conservative Party David Cameron. He then worked as a freelance journalist. In 1984, he took British citizenship. In the mid-1980s, Sikorski worked as a war correspondent in Afghanistan and Angola. For a photograph taken in Afghanistan he won the World Press Photo prize in 1988. From 1990 he was an advisor to Rupert Murdoch on investments in Poland.

Returning to Poland, in 1992 he briefly became deputy defence minister in the Jan Olszewski government. From 1998 to 2001 he served as deputy minister of foreign affairs in the Jerzy Buzek government. During the latter appointment, Sikorski became notorious in the Polish expatriate community.

From 2002 to 2005 he was a resident fellow of the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. and executive director of the New Atlantic Initiative.

He will cooperate with ... Bartoszewski

bart

Władysław Bartoszewski (IPA: [vwa'dɨswaf bartɔ'ʃɛfskʲi]; born February 19, 1922 in Warsaw) - Polish politician, social activist, professor of history, journalist, writer, Auschwitz concentration camp inmate, soldier of Armia Krajowa (Polish resistance organization during the World War II), Polish underground activist, participant of the Warsaw Uprising, twice nominated for the Minister of Foreign Affairs, chevalier of the Order of the White Eagle, honorary citizen of Israel.

So we are going to have proffesional Foregin policy.

News / Is the E.U. good for Poland?? [180]

Sure - and when did America help Poland in WW2?

oh yes, what I have written so many times here about what I think about our relationship with USA ... history is history all in all read about Polish -Ukrainian relationships in past esp 1920 (Petlura army) ... and we cooperat now and they considere us the best friends (according the focuses)

but I think weak Russia is in our business it means in all EU-USA countries business, weak Russia means chip mineral resouces ... and peace :)P

Nobody will use atomic bomb and send tanks to coutries who can use nulear wepon. Now we are in different reality, Russian hakers atacking some EU countries, China making the same to get some practice and expirience, does the same with EU and USA. Mineral resources it is long story ... On wihich side we are? Of course EU and in some way with USA.

We have some new unions, EU is much bigger, USA wants to create North American Union (Mexic Canada USA) they copy EU because they feel EU is stronger. Now there are two different alinaces, EU and USA ... we cooperate with each other ... but I can feel EU dont want USA donination, and It is grate idea, Microsoft in EU court paing for breking EU rules, 10 years ago the were coming here and dictate rules and game we play in Europe, now it changes. But there are some things we can do together ... esp new Players like China (Regime) ...

Polonia in USA 67% voted on PiS

Polonia in UK 62% voted on PO

It is very interesting, both sides vote because they care, they have their expiriecne. They have their vision of Poland and both sides have good intentions.

It's not about the whole Europe, it's mostly about Germany and their monopolistics attempts.

I dont think it will happen, PO isnt stupid and will just negotiate in different way, president of France Sarko has his ambitions too ... UK wants Tony Blair as president of EU ... Merkel is very popular but has forgoten about reforms in her own country ...

I m glad that PO is taking power now ... and we will see ...

Remains a sad post-communist country affected by an outstanding corruption, organized crime and communist 'mafia'. No future down here.

PO has roots in Solidarity, and most of liders of Solidarity are in PO, Kaczynski was nobody that time ... studied markist Law at home when Tusk was taking part of what happen in Gdansk shipyard ...

And this crazy idea that whole Europe is full of our enemies ... and USA and Israel are our best friends ...

Who give us money for our development ? where we can work ... ekhmmm even not work, just visit ?

and of course we call US our grate ally and some EU countries we call ....

so maybe we should start call USA old F**** traitor from Yalta '45. Why not ? Kaczysnki call Germans on EU summit nazists (?!?) (his style is just depressing) You know even he thinks they all are nazists (sic!) he shouldn't tell it on EU summit (!)

We live in Europe, we have a lot of issues to solve but we have to deal with it in different way, of course we have to be assertive but in other way ...

You will see how it should look ...

Sure. Tusk will lick Gerries' a5ss.

I m sure not, we will just talk about important things for Poland. Honestly I m tired by Kaczysnki policy in EU, because we all pay for our reputation. And some times he was right but he did some things in way I cant accept, I think we could get more profits form EU if we went other way. As to licking sb's ass:

prezydent.pl/x.download?id=12026123

and how we are treated by our ally ?

I dont understand why you are so pride by Kaczysnki foregin policy, when our (!!!) experts show we just lost most of our reputation and we pay for it, the same as Americans pay for their mistakes ...

News / Poland 2007 Elections: PO Won, PIS second [232]

The question is who was the father of the recent Polish economic success - it seems PIS did a good job, not PO.

they did nothing, that is why smashing majority of business owners voted on PO. Honestly PiS stoped reforms and consumed work of other governments. When you look on achievments of other new EU members in last 2 years, you will notice some facts which dont stick to your reality...

I think Poles in Poland should value Polonia's vote in more consideration because Polonia know "both sides of the story"

especialy when we look on fact Polonia in USA voted against Poland in EU ... and always supported parties like LPR ... I m so glad we havent folowed you today...

I hope so, this war is total crap, useless and is a real pain for everyone : soldiers and inhabitants. Stop the mess, please !

I think it is more than sure. Only PiS wanted them to stay ...

What can be interesting, results of this election show the reality we live in Poland. I have seen so many discussions about what LPR wanted to do, or SO. And now they have 1.5 % of votes and it is their end. I wouldnt be surprised seeing Lepper in prison. There will be no our PM in Radio M. What can be interesting PO should try to "eat" LiD in the same way PiS did with LPR & SO. We will have Democrats and Republicans in Poland ;) (there are some differences but it is example).

What can we see in up coming mounths, Poland will be much more european what means we will rather think about our relationsips in europe.

Relations with Germans will be much better, and we will discuss about problems instead talking about nazists.
Economy, so less bureaucracy less complicated regulations, lower taxes, cutings in social benefits.
More open society ...

But it is just my opinion and we will see what will happen ...
