Life / Polish speed cameras [37]

None of them seem to work, I tested all of them between Zakapane and Poznan at about 4 am and hardly any of them flashed and the ones that did didn't generate a ticket.

UK registered car - no problem

UK, Ireland / Polish people are happy with the UK health care system [27]

There was a case of a Polish doctor who travelled from Poznan to Aberdeen 4 times a week. You've probably heard of it, delph. He drove down to Wrocław and got a flight to Glasgow. He then got a bus up the road. The flight route was cancelled so I dunno what became of him.

It was once a week and the BBC made it look much worse than it was, In reality travelling from Poland to the UK by air takes no longer and is no more stressful than driving from say birmingham to london to work at the weekend which a lot of uk based doctors do.

UK, Ireland / Polish people are happy with the UK health care system [27]

There are some horrific cases, such as where doctors are being recruited from abroad and two sets of recruitment companies are creaming off a decent part of the money offered by the NHS - how is this in any way cost effective?

Shut it you :)

UK, Ireland / Petrol costs, Ford Transit travelling Poznan to Wales and then returning [26]

Who cares? Get the AA to take you for free. It's very easy: all you do is take out AA fuve star Europe, install a small tap somewhere in the fuel line, drive about 40km into your journey, stop to turn the tap off and then run the engine til it dies. Then you call the AA and get their repair guy out. He'll probably assume that either the fuel pump is knackered or the fuel line is clogged. Either way he's not going to be able to fix it there and then. Which means you get a free tow to where-ever you're going. Really does cut down on the fuel costs: I did from just past the Polish border to Slupsk on less than the smell of an oily rag!

I've did this with the 7 series when i bought it with a knackered box, limped it onto the nearest motorway, transfailsafe came up on the screen the aa delivered me a skoda and i drove home, my car was delivered to my door later that evening, my mate fixed it for £30 and job done.

BTW that is an ace idea harry, do they ask many questions when doing this? it could save me a fortune on my fuel bill.

UK, Ireland / Petrol costs, Ford Transit travelling Poznan to Wales and then returning [26]

you're probably going to be looking at 35 mpg average from a modern diesel transit, depends where in wales you are coming from but from Calais to Poznan its 700 miles so you're probably looking at 1000 miles each way, diesel on the continent is about 90p per litre so say £4 every 35 miles you'll need 28 gallons, say 30 for arguments sake thats £120 in fuel + £30-60 for the ferry and then loads of red bull to keep you awake, it might not work out any cheaper in all honesty, What about getting that guy delphian raves about to give you a quote?

UK, Ireland / Petrol costs, Ford Transit travelling Poznan to Wales and then returning [26]

I usually budget on around £200 each way from Cornwall to Poznan in a 7 series BMW so if you budget about the same you should have some change, are you running petrol or diesel?

From a different perspective i did it on £120 in a 1.8 mitsubishi colt but that was driving like a saint.

Also use norfolkline from dover to dunkirk as its loads cheaper.

UK, Ireland / "Polish ambassador warns - think twice about coming to Britain for work " [126]

Well lets look on the flip side, the empire provided jobs, security, an end to many tribal conflicts and it truly opened up the world which paved the way for globalisation which is what we have now so i would say that it has benefited ar$eholes like you and your chumps more than it has me.

The Empire was an awesome thing, we need to get it back! Look how quickly technology progressed when it was still a world power? The countries which were part of the British Empire all progressed nicely too.

Britain needs to get it back ASAP

Life / Authenticate Drivers licence [6]

The name on the driving licence is often Prawo Jazdy, Mr Prawo Jazdy is a very popular name in poland.

On a serious note if you are employing drivers under no circumstances employ a polish one as they will be s hite. Unsafe, erratic and generally clueless.

Life / How much cash to give as a wedding gift? [25]

Its not a Polish thing, any sort of decent person would give a nice wedding gift.

Even a cheap wedding reception cost $30k

So what youre saying is that you would go to a wedding eat, drink, dance and have a good time all on somebody elses tab.

It probably cost them $200 a plate per person and yet thier money grabbing Poles?

It sounds like youre a cheap Polock:)

Not really, i usually take a gift and as another poster has suggested the couple usually make an inventory and people choose what to buy from a list, most shops have the facility to do it online. Simply handing over cash is a bit thoughtless and its a bit like buying a ticket for an event. It also makes to clear how much you have spent on the gift too.

Life / How much cash to give as a wedding gift? [25]

I was just wondering the same thing myself...the thought of asking for money seems disgusting to me :/ If people want to spend a huge amount of money on their wedding, it's fine by me, but don't expect me to pay!

Typical money grabbing poles........

Life / How much cash to give as a wedding gift? [25]

Is it normal for poles to invite people to their wedding and expect them to pay? In the UK we normally give coffee machines and fondue sets as presents......

Love / Proposing to my Polish girlfriend [33]

You should look at spending around 2 years wages to get something decent. In Poland its perfectly normal to take out a massive loan to buy an engagement ring and then another larger loan to pay for the wedding ring and wedding.

On a serious note where are you based? Jewellery is really expensive in PL, If you are going on holiday to turkey buy one there as you will get much more for your money.

Love / Broken Heart, An amazing girl from Poland [139]

She hooked you in with that giant nose, won your heart with extra greasy bland polish food, emptied your bank account and left, well what else did you expect from a polish girl?......

Life / Should we bring our truck or go small? [15]

Regarding converting it to EU spec I can email you the SVA checklist which is a test done in the UK, The checklist could be used as a guideline. I also used to deal with several companies specialising in various things to convert JDM cars to UK spec, speedometer conversions, piggy back ecu things to alter the lights etc, If you need any help i could give you some advice, I spent 2 years of my life importing cars from Japan to sell in the UK and would be happy to help.

Regarding keeping it, With a 5.6 litre engine I think you may find petrol a bit of a pain in the wallet, on the same note as fuelling you may need to adjust the timing so that it runs on EU grade fuel which is minimum 95 octane but i'm assuming that it will be fitted with a knock sensor which will adjust things accordingly, Would be worth checking out in case it causes any damage ie burt out valves etc.

Personally i would get it eu compliant and sell it over here for a tidy profit, depending on year you could probably easilly get 70k pln for it (assuming its a 2005 model)

Poles seem to love huge usdm vehicles :)

UK, Ireland / Polish driver dies as car shears in half... [38]

do u drink?

I do yes but won't touch a drop ever if i'm driving, There is no excuse for drink driving and people who do so are effectively wielding a fully loaded weapon in a public place whilst unable to make proper judgments. I see Poland has a problem with drunk drivers as either 90% of road users are just simply unable to drive properly or they are pissed, I just assumed the latter due to how erratic they are.

Food / Is it just me, or is the Polish diet rather unhealthy? [119]

Thank you for that reply, Is it actually true about the laxative properties of certain foods being used to combat the overall greasiness of many foods?

It made for interesting reading as both me and my G/F have often wondered why polish people are so thin yet the food appears to be very fattening,

I was also unaware that Yorkshire puds can cause brain damage, do you have a link to this as i find that quite worrying.

UK, Ireland / Polish driver dies as car shears in half... [38]

The Finns are far better drivers than the Brits will ever be.

I hate to say this but i agree fully with you on that one, Their driving test is excellent,

youtube.com/watch?v=2bmqdnx5R1U

this should be introduced to the UK as it makes sense, Theres nothing about car control in any driving test in europe which needs to be addressed

UK, Ireland / Polish driver dies as car shears in half... [38]

It's not as if British drivers are a lot better:

Thats based on your opinion of one person?

Since i've been driving around poland i have seen some crashes in some truly idiotic places, Theres shrines to people who have died on a straight bit of road etc, Most of the drivers think that indicators are an optional extra and only overtake when theres traffic coming the other way,

British drivers are the best in europe and our roads are among the safest,

Think about it how many successful motorsport drivers have come from Poland?

from the UK we have hundreds of motorsport legends in rallying, formula 1, touring cars, etc

Anyway back on topic, No sympathy for the guy who died, it was his own fault and there is no excuse whatsoever for drink driving.
