Life / I feel the gay rights movement is constrained Poland [90]

Oh granted, i'm talking specifically central London, the big touristy/clubby areas. Anything goes up there dude, but yeah you dont have to go much further before you hit the hate-barrier.

I should remember that words i use are not going to be taken the same internationally, or even as close as Yorkshire. The term 'London Town' round here means the centre and nothing more. I live in Greenwich, its still London but very different from the glass-towers, smog and hustle of the big city.

I could dress as a fairy up there, with bright green hair and ride a unicycle and it would only be the occasional tourist who would look at me funny!

Feedback / Forum times? a noob question perhaps... [20]

So why are the times in these forums in CST (GMT -6) ?

Isnt that US time? maybe I missed something but wouldnt Polish time make more sense?

Also i've run forums from these board templates before, you should be able to allow members to set their own display time preference. Or have I just missed the option?

dziękuję

Yeah the 'Norm' isnt quite the best way of putting it. If you are in London town it isnt unusual to encounter gay folk where ever you go, no one bats an eyelid up there, but the further out you go the less comfortable it is.

Age has a lot to do with it also, it will be another couple of generations at least before the 'oldies' can accept that they wont catch 'Homo-disease' by sharing the same air as someone who likes the same sex.

A little while ago, an older guy at work who quite often had no problems expressing his disgust at the very idea of homosexuality, came to me one day and told me his Son had just 'come out' to him, and he was scared. He wanted to know more about it all, if there was anything he should be worried about, what rumours were true and not, etc.

I was pleasantly surprised to be honest, his first notion was not:
"Can i cure him"
but more
"Can I support him?"

Which just goes to show that you can be as strong as you want about your opinion of an alien matter, but when it happens close to home everything can change in an instant.

Made me laugh though, he came to me coz he thought i was gay.
Happens a lot to me, i guess you cant be a devilishly good looking slim guy with fantastic hair and great dress sense without someone judging you...

Did i say modest too? he he.

UK, Ireland / Polish girl married a British guy - when will she become British citizen? [29]

Your stupidity really is outstanding...

You have got to be kidding me. Your entire post is ill informed and wrong, full of racist, derogatory comments and your attempts to spread lies with conviction make YOU the 'stupid' one.

Exactly what are you doing here in these forums?

Life / Polish-English Bilingual Bible [29]

Allah would probably strike him down, then ring the old guy with the grey beard sitting on a cloud and say:
"Get your dirty Christian language away from my flock!!"

Like i said it includes many translations in text, but (and i could be wrong) but i believe it can only be spoken in its original language. Every Muslim must learn Arabic to study the Koran.

(I may be way off here, but this is what i'm led to believe from my many Muslim friends)

"Men's Liberation."

made me chuckle... :)

Does Love not come into this? why does this always come down to sex?
There is a belief that the Soul is gender-less, and any soul therefore has the potential to fall in love with any other soul.
I'm sure homosexuals want children too, i guess we're lucky here in England, specifically London where we have 'chavs' and their amazing powers of rampant underage and unprotected sex mean that the populace is ever-growing. I guess it balances out all these selfish, non child bearing gay people you seem to dislike so much.

Light and Dark, balance, isnt that what its all about?

ah ok, i'm gonna pretend i know what those letters stand for and just nod approvingly.

I'm convinced what you are looking for must exist, [ethnicharvest.org/peoples/countries/polish.htm] - this place seems promising, perhaps you should ask them.

I'll have another look later but my eyes are beginning to bleed, i think its time for bed.

I have a Muslim friend who has this MP3 device with the Koran on it exclusively.
The audio is all in Arabic (kinda blasphemous to be anything else) but it includes text translations for about 30 different languages.

They say the Bible is the biggest selling, most translated book there is so surely there must be something like this about.

While i wasnt serious about 'trying the Vatican' there must be some big international Church shop.com that sells this stuff?

and if not then i think i see a gap in the market!

Life / Are there many atheists and agnostics in Poland? [47]

To Moonlighting:
Ooh, i was with you there until the end.

I am not Christian because of my society, moral principles or original government structure, but i think there is a difference in our points here.

Mine are made more on an individual level, yours are more nationally and I respect that.

But just because the Bible says 'Don't kill people', and i don't, it does not make me a Christian. I simply live by common sense and try to do my best for people, be helpful, honest and try to get on with everyone. I am not capable of hate for another human being, but these are my own rules and my own life and that of my family and friends benefit from them.

You say they are in accordance but what would you have me do to not be Christian? rape? pillage? covert my neighbours ox? (oo-er!)

I appreciate what you are saying, but i think this is two-way here. Having not been brought up in your society/country (Belgium?) and as you have not been raised in mine, i'm afraid there may be some things beyond each of our own comprehensions.

I guess thats the real test of 'Tolerance' huh? to accept others' opinions no matter how much they differ from your own.
Thanks for your comments.

To Jkn005: I'm sure there is more to your story than you would be prepared to print, or have space for! but it wasnt that long ago i felt very much the same. No i havent been 'saved' since then or anything like that so dont worry, there are no lectures heading your way from me!

But i accept again that i am incapable of understanding the situation you have in Poland, i wish you all the best.

Think i'll leave this for now too, i should have learned my lessons in the past about religious discussion, but there can be such a thing as a 'healthy argument' so i hope everyone gained something at least.

Play nicely now!

Life / Are there many atheists and agnostics in Poland? [47]

We are not a well liked reality of people on this planet. So phobia of all religion in my case is pretty warranted.

Pardon me, but may i ask your age? only this is usually the opinion of someone rather young.
Accepted that Religion can be oppressive, but people still need hope and faith, regardless of whether the world is round or flat, if it makes people happy knowing either then whats the problem?

And if you're wondering, I'm a Leonist by religion.

Life / Are there many atheists and agnostics in Poland? [47]

In my experience Religion is never a good topic for forums, I upset many people a while back on one of my own sites by posting my own religious beliefs.

In a way I am envious, we (in England) have lost much of our Religious integrity, I know people from all over the world and it seems Faith is stronger almost everywhere else (except the US where sadly people like Bush use it to strengthen crazy wars).

To some it would appear that we are afforded greater freedom, more choice by not being forced to go to church every Sunday/pray 5 times a day/sacrifice goats or whatever, but as we shed the confines of organised religion, we also seemed to have lost many morals.

At the moment we have a large intake of Muslim people here, Their faith is heavily based on community, much like Christianity was here once. It is very humbling to witness. But I fear for them, our 'Western ways' are polluting their children's minds and British Islam will become diluted over time also, which is sad.

Faith is important in any society, we all need to feel there is a reason for being, something to aim for and someone to watch over us. Its just a shame that Religion has killed more than any territorial war, disease or natural disaster ever has.

Be nice to each other in here guys, just because it makes little sense to you, don't mean its wrong.

Food / National Beverages (napoje?) of Poland [12]

cześc, I'm fairly new here so please be gentile!

Being English, I am obviously a firm lover of Tea, mostly enjoying the traditional (Indian) type but also Chinese Green tea with lemon.

I am aware that Poland have some of the best beers in the world, but are there any non-alcoholic drinks that you enjoy in a similar way to England's stereotypical love of Tea?

I know its an odd question, but when learning another language/culture it is natural to look for the foreign alternatives, I cannot imagine life without Tea or some kind of replacement.

If not, are there any traditional meals I should know about?

dziękuję.
