News / Air-show accident in Poland [81]

lets just not mention the chipmunks on RAF strengh untill a couple of years ago lol )

Or the fact that the RAF can't afford to fly at weekends and most of the crews get the weekend off. If the Soviets ever find out we could be in trouble.

New rules of international engagement - offensive action shall be between 9am and 5pm Mondays to Fridays only (excluding UK bank holidays). After hours you may leave abusive e-mails at our Service Desk. Have a nice war

our(the RAFs) planes looked like UFOs compared to that old wreck.

Yes but two of our boys were in Typhoons that are VERY new.

News / Air-show accident in Poland [81]

Aircraft were Czech aerobatic type. One of the pilots was one of Poland's finest civilian pilots and the other one was a bit of an up and coming star. The display team is an internationally acknowledged one and it sounds like a tragic case of human error, although the investigation will revelea that to be the case or not. As for the cr*p about this being a common event that is simply not true. As for the claim that PL has outdated sub standard Soviet aircaft that is not true. The only front line Soviet type sare MIG29 s and SU22s which are excellent aircraft. Add to that the F16s. All of the current training aircraft (both fast jet and turboprop) are Polish I understand.

A lot more typically if you are non EU. Not sure about EU though, I would imagine they would pay the same as Brits

UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

Being 'go getter' has proven to be a success in most cases

Well said Fisz.

To me this one phrase sums up all of the Polish people that I have ever worked with. All the ones I know are hard working and have a ‘can do’ attitude. To a man or woman they have exhibited a strong desire to learn and better their knowledge and experience. Maybe because of the field I work in I have not met any of the ‘feckless’ Poles (to borrow the uttered and almost immediately retracted phrase used by their Prime Minister when in the UK). Of course there are going to be Poles in this category in the UK, it’s a statistical certainty. but it is so unfair to put down our new Polish co-residents with vitriolic and unfounded statements that apply to a small minority.

Travel / Mazurian Lakes pyramid - Help me win a bet.... [15]

"A desert is defined simply by the amount of rainfall that falls in an area in conjunction with the amount of evaporation. In essence, its any area that receives on average less than 10 inches of rainfall per year, and where the yearly evaporation is more than 10 inches of rain a year."

So I disagree. But what's a small disagreement on definition among friends when I get beer out of it?

I'll try to come up with equivalent littel known facts for the UK so you can get some beer too.

Travel / Mazurian Lakes pyramid - Help me win a bet.... [15]

you should win a triple amount of beers, noone is gonna believe we have a desert and pyramids, Poland is no fricking Egypt after all

Ah ha. Good man Krzysztof. I'll keep the desert in hand for the following week. although techncially a desert is defined by the lack of rainfall rather than the nature of the terrain. Still good enough for a beer or two though.

Travel / Concerned with Doctors Strike in Poland [13]

Article on poisition as at 19 August is here.

The protest action by hospital doctors, now in its 13th week, has been suspended in some institutions, according to the OZZL national union of doctors, and the situation is gradually returning to normal, according to the health ministry.

The OZZL national strike committee will meet next Friday [24 August] to assess the situation and map out further course of action. Hospital nurses will stage a demo in front of parliament buildings when the Sejm meets in August and September.

Travel / Mazurian Lakes pyramid - Help me win a bet.... [15]

I am convinced that somewhere in the Mazurian Lakes region there is a pyramid. My friends have accused me of having one Guinness too many but I'm sure I remember reading about it. The drinks are on the loser next week so if you can help me out I'd much appreciate it. I've tried googling without success.

Love / A Polish Girl Without Heart!! [54]

the harsh reality of POLISH GIRLS in my experience

You can only talk about your own experience ... which has not been good from what I have read. Sorry to hear about it. Others have been much luckier so don't write all Polish girls off, although you may be understandably wary next time you see the next high cheekboned, long legged Polish lovely!

Lifes rich tapestry and all that ......

UK, Ireland / Getting married to a Polish Citizen in the UK [371]

It's all on the home office visas section website. Read this first and then navigate around the site. The key to it is not your status but your GF's in that she has to prove that she is 'settled' in the UK. Good luck - as long as this is genuine of course.

Just wondering how much an hour you get for wiping British arses?

I believe the going rate is roughly $2 an hour less than that Tony Blair got for doing the same job on George W

UK, Ireland / Why do Poles come to England? [514]

Some British people just complain about everything under the sun because it is their nature......not because of circumstances forced upon them.........

True in that we have less to complain about. It's just that I was told by my Father that the Poles he fought with in WWII used to complain about everything (in a funny way) including their country. It's an intersting thought - is is experiential or not?
