History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

not trying to hide my racist views

Your kidding. lol

those who might and those who failed.

Poland just stepped up to Putins threats. What does Putin do, threaten Ukraine. Putin better be careful or his missile may get put up his behind. Do you not see his behavior as aggressive?

History / Did Ukraine really "steal" Polish land? [302]

Property that was taken from the Polish people in eastern Ukraine in 1939-45 were to be paid for. Some recieved compensation in western Poland (land taken from Germany), others were never reimbursed. Deadline to recieve compensation (as aggreed in 1945) has a deadline of Dec. 2008. Claim forms can be from the next of kin and you do not have to reside in Poland.

History / Poles Deportation to Siberia, please, The Light of the Candle [5]

Since the fall of communism in Poland , a new tradition has emerged ..... on Feb. 10th of each year, people all over the country place a lit candle in their window to commemorate the first of 4 waves of deportations (in 1940) of approximately 2 million Polish citizens to Siberia .

I ask that you also light a candle in their memory, and in the memory of all those who suffered through this Russian genocide of the Polish people, and of the many other citizens of the Baltic countries.

A Candle Loses Nothing by Lighting Another Candle.
Please Keep This Candle Going!

Thank You.

The Light of the Candle

A cold, frosty window against the darkness of the night
A lonely candle burns with a small flickering light
A small boy watches the flame with curious eyes
Babciu, you lit this candle, can you tell me why?

History / Anyone have information on "SMERSH"? [9]

They were hidden well.

The military counter-intelligence also oversaw the deportation of entire ethnic groups within the Soviet Union. Many died en route or perished later in the camps.

Smersh was gradually absorbed into what was to become the KGB, and many of its operations still remain shrouded in secrecy.

History / Anyone have information on "SMERSH"? [9]

Thanks I don't like to trust wikipidea but they had alot on them. I wonder why they are not brought up more?

The SMERSH was directly involved in the collection, interrogation, and execution of tens of thousands of Polish military officers, clerics, and political leaders at the Katyn Forest Massacre. The SMERSH was also actively involved in the capture, of tens if not hundreds of thousands of suspected disloyalists, anti-Soviets, and White Partisans in the Soviet Union such as forced repatriation, and execution of Soviet citizens who had been active in anti-communist armed groups fighting on the side of Nazi Germany such as the Russian Liberation Army, the Cossack Corps of Pyotr Krasnov, and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists. This also included eastern POWs and eastern workers. Finally, SMERSH handled the capture and interrogations and executions of hundreds of thousands of German and Japanese POWs as well as the capture of thousands of American, British, Australian, New Zealand, Dutch, French and Nationalist Chinese soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines, as well as expatriates. Though a few thousand of the German and Japanese PoW's were released after Stalin's death in March, 1953, the "Allied Disappeared" were never seen again. The USSR, and the present Russian Federation, claim to know nothing about these many thousand "Allied Disappeared."[citation needed] The USSR feared these members of the Allies that ended up on the USSR's territory would tell what they saw, and Stalin feared a cutoff of the Arctic and Persian supply convoys.[citation needed]

Anyone know anything about SMERSH?

SMERSH activities also included "filtering" the soldiers recovered from captivity. It was also used extensively to "filter" the population of the gained territories, including Eastern Europe. The SMERSH was directly involved in the collection, interrogation, and execution of tens of thousands of Polish military officers, clerics, and political leaders at the Katyn Forest Massacre.

News / Polish-German Relations in the Present [697]

I found this artical very interesting.

Study: German Children Born During World War II Not Yet Over Trauma
February 4, 2008 12:56 p.m. EST

"The psychiatrist explained the painful war memories were locked in the children's memories and stayed in their adult subconscious while they tried to live normal lives. Now, as they near retirement age, with no jobs to distract their attention, the memories resurface. The likely symptoms are depression, panic attacks and heart ailments."

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

give our energy for nothing

lol , OK we'll let you do that, Thanks.

Do you suppose that poorest and rich levels of the society feels any sympathy to each other?

They do here, there's a saying, "The more you give, the more that comes back to you." This is so true, but alot of the rich, yes even in the USA , kill themselves trying to hold onto materialist to be happy, and this is what kills them. Bummer, yet there are people that are dirt poor and you never saw a happier person. Go figure.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

Most of Soviet loses were Ukrainians and Belarussians

Stalin took out most of eastern Poland "Kresy" today (Ukraine).

'class conflict'

How can you tell, could someone be land rich, yet they look poor? In the USA it depends on where you are if you can tell. Car's also are quite the status symbol here.

We know our homes and don't change the boarders.???

No your boarders have changed our's are the same.

Like usa and canada or mexico?

We have our lines in the sand, just because some can't see them.

when Russia took the spoils from Poland.

Over there you do, not here. Have you guys ever really thought of becoming one like USA? We know our homes and don't change the boarders.

Better yet, I was watching Edgar Casie the other night and they were talking about the country's merging across the sea's. Now you must admit, if USA and Europe were fused together, well I think we might have a great time, that is the ones that survived the trip.

History / Poland-Russia: never-ending story? [1341]

It has to do with the disrespect towards middle class which Russians display, their fond of elites, the extreme way of life

Why do you segregate "middle class" , do we not all try to achive a better life reguardless of class?

It is just because west deserve it

LOL, you are a burst of sunshine, you do not terrorize the west.

History / Russian compensation [16]

Celinska says this is screwed up, it is Polish that could hold hatred for how they were treated. Yet I don't use hate, it is pity I have for Russian's. Lets face it you have lived with hatred long enough in Russia. Maybe hate is anger because Polish people can go on with life as respected, strong people that still embrace their past without shame. If Poland makes error's they take responsibility, can Russia do the same?

History / JFK in Detroit Michigan at the American Relief for Poland [12]

.......RFK

CT just sent his cousin to prison for murder. I live here and the Kennedy's think they are God's. Cases of rape, murder, they thought it would pass. Look up Skakel trial.

Now JFK, not a bad pres. to look at, had some great plans. I personally liked "Ronald Regan". Looks like RFK was going in the right direction for Poland.

I never knew

Thank you for the link to this article. I knew JFK had started to make voices heard but never saw this great speech. Thanks, Carol

"If the Poles come to feel that we in the West have forgotten them, that we are willing to reach a permanent agreement with the Russians that does not provide for a free Poland, that we with all of our advantages and wealth care little about their problems, then their courageous struggle to preserve the spirit of independence may cease."

Japan never attacked Purl Harbour. I'm not even sure Purl Harbour even existed in 1941.

You stated they never attacked Pearl Harbor or it existed in 1941.

Purl Harbour even existed in 1941.

Pearl Harbor was attacked Dec 7,1941

"At 6:00 a.m. on 7 December, the six Japanese carriers launched a first wave of 181 planes composed of torpedo bombers, dive bombers, horizontal bombers and fighters. Even as they winged south, some elements of U.S. forces on Oahu realized there was something different about this Sunday morning."

News / Do Polish people feel there is a danger of communism growing stong again? [69]

The average citizen of big country puts up with it because he is warned that otherwise

So Poland has a way to go. Lets take the missile shield, will this be put before the citizens for a final vote?

They really do make it hard for the citizen.

Lastly, the out-of-court methods for the protection of EU citizens' rights comprise two parts:

the right to petition the European Parliament;
the right to apply to the Ombudsman.
