USA, Canada / Green Card Marriage ad leads to arrest [18]

I'm not disagreeing with you. I mean that it's typical such "up front" people will get a punishment for this yet more sinister characters will get away with it.

USA, Canada / Green Card Marriage ad leads to arrest [18]

they broke the law and were caught, now time to pay

Yes, don't get me wrong, a law was broken so there must be some kind of punishment...but they never really attempted to hide what they were doing. Yet others will get away with it. Such is life I guess.

UK, Ireland / The Changing Face of Scotland - we need more immigrants! [178]

Still none of the issues that have arisen down south.

Hopefully these issues won't arise here.

This is another article from the same website about the links between Scotland and Poland.

Green Card Marriage ad leads to arrest

She did place a very "obvious" advert. Can I believe that someone didn't know it was illegal? I don't know.

How much investigating needed to be done though? Married on Feb 17 2006, yet the article is dated today and they were only arrested last week?

Another question is this...if they have been married for so long and neither has caused any problems and have both worked and contributed to USA for this time (whether in love or not) do you feel they should be prosecuted or not? (I am aware of the law - it's a general question). It's a pity they will be, the actual act may be illegal but it doesn't seem like they've hidden it considering it began with a public advert.

UK, Ireland / The Changing Face of Scotland - we need more immigrants! [178]

What would the Polish accent sound like trying to speak in a Scottish dialect?

Probably because they are around me too often, some of my Polish friends have picked up saying the words "aye", "cannae" and a few others like "dinnae" and "dae". The problem is, when I'm around them I become more "Scottish" when I not with them, I'm generally more well-spoken! :)

You, and others, seemed to be speaking so knowledgably about England. I was just wondering.

And others seem to speak so knowledgably about Scotland! I think that you are right about the economical situation of certain areas. As in, area's with higher un-employment may have a higher disregard for certain groups they think as the reason for the high un-employment.

UK, Ireland / The Changing Face of Scotland - we need more immigrants! [178]

They do in the big cities and youd better believe it, I have lots of connections still to Edinburgh and there is a definate undercurrent of " oh yes, nice enough people, but to many of them",Im sure this is the same in other areas of higher level imigration. The fact it seems wider spread in England is that generally Poles are in more English towns and cities and in larger numbers, wait till little towns in scotland, reliant on seasonal work suddenly play host to a few thousand outsiders ready to take those jobs for min wage and dodgyier conditions and attitudes will soon come into line with the rest of UK.

Well, it's unwise to think that Polish people only live in the larger towns or the cities of Scotland and the anti-Polish sentiment is not, and hopefully never will "come into line" with the rest of the UK. Why should it? Why doesn't the rest of the UK come into line with Scotland?

I'm not saying anti-Polish (or anti-immigrant) feeling doesn't exist in Scotland but it is a lot less of an obvious feeling.

I think people are starting to get fed up of Poles in Scotland as well. It's sad but true. One just has to wander around the Polish ghetto in Edinburgh, around Leith Walk, to see how they cut themselves off and want nothing to do with integrating, unless they have to pour you a pint or serve you in Lidl!

Working and living in Scotland (working with a large Polish group and also socialising) I have yet to see Scots go "out of their way" to integrate with Polish people. Individuals yes, but the fault of not integrating lies on both sides.

Whether it's right or wrong, a lot of Polish people arrive here (UK) with poor English speaking skills so it's natural to want to be in a social group you feel comfortable in eg - that you can comfortably communicate in.

I find it worrying, but at least get to show it to the people at work who want 'all immigrants to go home.'

It's worrying that the amount of people who have left Scotland (and plan to in the future) causes enough concern that research has been done into how Scotland will "fail" without some kind of boost in population. If that boost comes from "immigrants" then so be it. Anti-Polish or anti-immigrant feelings don't run as highly in Scotland as they do elsewhere in the UK so Scotland would accept immigrants as a partial help to the boost.

And Welcome Back Sofi :)

Language / Why do people want to study Polish? [90]

2. Europeans (esp. Brits) want to speak Polish to be able to communicate with Poles who settle in their countries (?)

Yes this is probably my reason. I've made a couple of good Polish friends in the last couple of years but I know many more. It makes more sense to me to learn Polish than any other language. However, I'm forgetting more than I am learning at the moment...

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Read some of the stuff on this Site and they seem to have F*ck all good to say about us!

I think that the Polish members of this site have lots of nice things to say about the people who do not constantly put Polish people down...

The only w*nkers in Crewe are Poles....The locals hate them!

Try not to talk so much nonsense. Do you live in Crewe?

Krokiety is to be tried, believe me. If you don't fancy cooking yourself then hopefully you have a nice Polish friend who'll cook them for you :)

PolskaDoll, hope you sleep tight, it's all because of YOU!

Blah, blah

I'll let you know how it goes, but I expect the word 'kurva' (may be spelt wrong) to be uttered thoughout the day.

Yes and there will probably be a lot more you don't understand but believe me, they aren't saying how wonderful you are...

PolskaDoll, the only reason I can see you defending the Polish is that you are unattractive and have a Polish boyfriend OR you are Polish.

sigh...I wondered when the insults would begin again...

I don't make any excuses for anything. What's unattractive? Whatever stupid ideal you have in your mind. I imagine you take your image of attractive from some magazine.

Do you actually KNOW one Polish person? I don't mean someone you know of cos some silly friend of yours told you about. I mean, have you talked to a Polish person in your life? Or do you just take everything you say as second hand because your pal told you so?

You have a huge amount to learn. Stop taking your knowledge from your mates or wherever you get it. I know only one Polish girl who accepts any kind of benefit and that is maternity pay. Her boyfriend works a million hours a week to add to this just so that they can have nice things for baby (not for them). Before she went for maternity she worked as many hours as she could.

Most Polish come to UK to EARN! FACT!

In fact, I'll edit that, earn or learn it should be!

State facts, and I'll listen.

I don't need to, it is common sense, you cannot be earning the lowest level of pay and pushing up house prices.

News / BRAIN DRAIN ON POLAND [101]

We didn't have these high prices (outside London) before you lot infested this country. Houses were quarter of the price they are today. Wages have remained the same because YOU LOT undercut English people.

House prices rose because of British greed, nothing to do with immigrants. You totally contradict yourself in this statement. You can't be earning minimum wage (or less) and pushing house prices UP. Think about it...

Proud to be Polish?

I would be if I was Polish.

I'll tell you why, to feather your nests back in the wasteland you call home, namely, Poland.

Nice, and I bet you live in a mansion...or is it a condemned council estate...hmmm

telefonitika

Too true. At work when the office manager can be heard saying "that's another ink gone - I don't understand this" I can usually be seen giving a slight cough and finding a reason to leave the room... :)

I speak for for the majority in England

You speak for yourself.

How was this country built up before you came?

By English people that's how.

Utter crap! If you dare to question this, get back to the history books.

You force wages down and house prices up.

Wages I've mentioned in another thread. House prices - greed of the British people (if Polish people are working in minimum wages jobs they can't be forcing house prices up!).
