UK, Ireland / fly with pet from Ireland to Poland [3]

BUT there are quarantine issues.

True. The dog will need a doggie passport (this is not a joke) + various jabs.
And I think this has to be done some weeks in advance of travel.

Work / Teaching English without a degree and any experience in Poland. [14]

Does anyone here teach English without a degree?

There are different levels of teaching. Some teach on the net for free, some work at home with pupils aged five and upwards, some work in private schools, some work in state schools.

A degree in what ? I doubt many native speakers in Poland have a teaching degree.

A qualification of some sort will help, but is not always necessary.

If you have the drive and commitment then e-mail a number of schools and ask.

Study the relevant threads on polishforums first.

Life / Polish fireplaces have glass doors. How to clean them? [16]

If I open the door the smoke bellows out,

have you had a sweep check the chimney ?

there is a (removable) steel ceiling in the fire place,

I'm not sure what you mean and wouldn't want to give the wrong advice.

Also I have never seen marshmallows in this country

Life / Polish fireplaces have glass doors. How to clean them? [16]

extra info:

When I do a big Christmas meal (not on Christmas Day) and never have enough gas rings I find that you can put one or two pots on top of the stove.

Also, when the fire is at the right temp, sit next to it, open the door, stick the poker in a slice of bread and make toast. You can also toast marshmallows etc. Yummy.

Life / Polish fireplaces have glass doors. How to clean them? [16]

The soft side?

I'd say a bit of both... depending on the dirt.

When our fire is used in winter it only gets cleaned once in a while because it's always lit. It only looks pretty in summer.

Life / Polish fireplaces have glass doors. How to clean them? [16]

What is the best way to clean the glass,

soapy water (washing up liquid) and one of those sponges you use for the pots n pans.

Works for us.

I've noticed that a big plasma tv also gives out plenty of heat.

Genealogy / How to change my Americanized last name to my real (Polish) last name? [23]

I just need to find time to sit down with him and talk.

When you talk write down the answers (written notes are better than trying to remember)
Make sure that he knows this is a serious matter and not a whim.
You need dates, places... as much info as possible.
Don't argue... just listen.
You will get fed some bull, but you can see through it later.

Love / POLISH GIRLS AND LOOSE JEANS [36]

she is sat next to me.

There are five females in this house. They all wear similar, reasonably tight 'tight ass' pants/jeans.

Love / POLISH GIRLS AND LOOSE JEANS [36]

Time for a baggy revival though, given the way that fashion works in cycles...

Fashion had a serious change this week in Wroclaw. The last two mornings have been frosty... out come the boots, jeans and winter coats.

Click on images. They are mostly 'ass tight'.

Love / POLISH GIRLS AND LOOSE JEANS [36]

When I was in Poland recently I noticed that most women there wear loose fitting jeans.

I can't say that I agree with this.

Life / Polish people start families at early age-how true is this? [20]

A Women ability to have children starts to drop-off when she hits 27. After that, it becomes increasingly difficult to conceive.

This will come as sad news to a large number of modern Poles who marry a year or two after leaving university... when they are about twenty-seven years old.

Men can keep on trucking until they kick the bucket.

From what I've read recently... this isn't exactly true.

Genealogy / How to change my Americanized last name to my real (Polish) last name? [23]

How or where can I go to find out the real last name and where could i go to verify documents.?

find great-grandpa's naturalization papers.

check arrivals at Ellis Island. This will help to determine if the name was changed on entry to the usa, or later

find him on the Ship's Manifest and then check next of kin. next of kin may or may not have the original name, but it's worth a try. next of kin could be just a friend though

what were your great-grandparent's first names ? Did they change them too ? Or did they keep the original form.

The best way forward is to have your uncle write/spell the name. Then you will have something to work with.

The spelling you gave doesn't exist, but there are close matches.

Find out which town or city they came from... then we can do a name search.

In other words, we can help you, but we need more specific information.

Given that this is your great-grand parents, please read up on the history of Poland before 1918. You might find that with border changes they actually came from an area that is not now Poland.

Life / Polish Protestants [22]

A search of Wroclaw (protestant churches in Wroclaw) only brings up sites that won't load.

I'll have to come back to this one.

Life / Polish Protestants [22]

how did Protestantism get there and stay there, and are they mostly Lutheran (as I'd imagine)?

We have many types, including Lutheran. I have no idea as to their roots.

I imagine they don't pose a threat, due to their relatively small numbers.

Life / Polish Protestants [22]

I have no thoughts of importance. Each to their own.

In Wroclaw, like anywhere else, we have various types/forms of worship. All get along fine.

Life / Wedkarski (fishing/angling) questions in Poland [7]

Seems the Anglos recognise only trout and salmon,

Don't be daft.

There are plenty off fishing tours to Poland organized for British anglers, who like to fish for carp etc

Besides this, trout and salmon fishing requires different equipment and different waters.
