Real Estate / 670 square-metre apartment for PLN 26.8 million? No, thanks. [2]

From last week's New Warsaw Express (no suing me Cyg)

A 670-square-metre apartment building in the
Sky Tower high-rise upscale residential
building in Wroclaw in southwestern Poland
could cost close to PLN 27 million, the project’s
press officer, Arkadiusz Forster, told Interfax
Central Europe.
“I can confirm that our largest apartment
has an area of 670 square metres,”
Forster said. “Apartment prices in Sky
Tower range between PLN 14,500 and
PLN 40,000 per square metre.”
This means that, considering the highest
price for the buildings largest apartment,
the 670 square-metre apartment
could cost PLN 26.8 million.
The apartment is located on the 54th and
55th floor of the building, which offers a
view on the Sudetes Mountains, which are
located approximately 50 km from the city.
The apartment also has its own 15-metrelong
swimming pool.
Forster didn’t want to reveal whether
someone has bought the apartment.

Is Wroclaw the new owner? I think we should be told.

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

10 years ago Krakow was one of my fave places on earth,

Me too. 15 years ago Prague was one of my favourite places too and look at it now. When my eldest son visited there for the first time a few years back he came back ashamed to be British after witnessing the behaviour. Like FinT says though, some locals have pandered to the stag parties et al and have made a great deal of money out of them.

Travel / Spending money for vacation in Poland [15]

All I can do is recount what I was told about hiring ski clothes since I've got all mine. Apparently it was not easy to find clothes rental. That is not to say that you cannot find them but not as easily as in an Alpine resort for example. Maybe somebody else will help you out. There are a couple of reasonable web sites on Zakopane snowsports.

Travel / Spending money for vacation in Poland [15]

Last time I was there (2 years ago now) we paid between 35 and 50 ZL for skis, poles and boots a day depending on the quality of the skis. This was from an obvious location at the bottom of a lift. We were told that if you looked down the side streets you could get a better deal but we didn't investigate further.

UK, Ireland / Best county in UK and why ? [45]

It has to be Dorset. Look at what has come from there:

- Thomas Hardy
- Lawrence of Arabia
- The Tolpuddle Martyrs (birth of the trade union movement)
- Home of the best fossils in the UK (no, not Bournemouth's pensioners, I mean the fossil beds at Lyme Regis)
- Badger Beer

And if it comes down to a tie break, where else has a river called Piddle?

Dorset, Dorset, Dorset,
The county where I want to be,
Pony trekking or camping,
Or just watching TV.
Dorset, Dorset, Dorset,
It's the county for me.

UK, Ireland / Are the Poles in England hated? [450]

I had a look for comparable links from the English based government but couldn't find any

That's because they are probably in Urdu, or Cantonese, or Welsh or even Polish. Very little content on DirectGov in English these days!

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

i owed 5 zl for parking for 10 minutes

It's all relative. I had to pay £20 to park for 7 hours in London yesterday and I had to pay the congestion charge as well. Moral of the story - you get ripped off even if you pay the published rate.

Love / 5 ways how to pick up (cute Polish) guys? [146]

And how do you try to pick up she?

This an important question. My technique has been honed by years of playing Rugby. Firstly you must go in low to avoid being caught by a left hook. Next, tackle the victim just above the knees. Too high and you run the risk of being kicked in the face. Just above the knees ensures there is no chance of lower body movement. Next stand upright and throw her over one shoulder. This makes her easy to carry and also allows you to pick up your beer in the other hand.

National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way

What a load of tosh. Another unproductive day where 30% of the people will have another day off to recover from the hangovers they got celebrating being British. Is this government incapable of any clear thought?

UK, Ireland / The Poles are Coming documentary [38]

britain has the lowest unemployment rate in the world.

OECD Standardised unemployment rates for 2007 have UK at 4.8%

This is more than Switzerland, Norway, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Korea, Japan and Luxembourg.

Sorry to be pedantic but if you must make bold statements.....

Give the grouse a rest and shoot srotes instead

I don't think the grouse and chav shooting seasons overlap so we should be OK.
