History / Gdansk and it's history with Poland [116]

Not that long, the town had a Polish majority for at least half a thousand years, nearly a thousand Polish knights fighting for the Teutons came from Gdańsk, Germans become a clear majority only in 16th-17th century.

As for the city itself, it was built by Poles over a thousand years ago, how can you get a better claim than that?

News / New York Post : "Polish" Death Camps and more [278]

ple are going to think that it was Poland

Have you ever been to America? Let me be blunt here, not offensive just absolutely honest, an average American is abso-fuking-lutely stupid, he's primitive. undeducated, indoctrinated, he's a simpleton.

If you want proof just read some of our American posters, the mind boggles, if these people read about "Polish concentration camps" thats what they are for them, some of them dont even know on what continent Poland is or whether its an island or an alien empire.

News / Liga Polskich Rodzin- A worthy option? [56]

Forgive me for saying this but you come across as paranoid.

Being paranoid pays off when considering the big picture, if Poland would be paranoid in 1926 by 1939 it would have a powerfull modern army able to maybe not beat but definitely stop Germany, but Poland was not paranoid.

Still, you have to go with the flow and you cannot be ruled by the past

Absolutely, which is why i'm not against buying land, i'm saying that it should be unoficially monitored and if for example Sergiey X an ex-KGB turned billionaire wants to buy a huge patch of land he needs to be discouraged.

Comfy island? What's so comfy about it? We abandoned splendid isolation in 1902, Sok :)

Doesnt matter, you're still an island and even in XXI century that midget sized channel creates a completely different political reality for you, as well as the fact that you border largely peacefull France.

You can project your interests without much external political or military threat, Poland is in the middle of a shytefield, whats harmless in UK must be under a magnyfying glass here.

What is so stupid about buying land, Sokrates?

In case of Poland which is bordered by Germany which while matured since WW2 has its own agendas regarding Polish west, or in case of Russia which is a dishonest craphole land becomes a possible political tool.

I'm not against foreigners buying land as a rule but it should be monitored so for example Siergiei Comunistowski from Moscow doesnt buy land on an important energy route or that Russia doesnt use the pretext of its citizens property being harmed as justification of an invasion in the future, Poland is not UK we do not live on a comfy island.

News / Liga Polskich Rodzin- A worthy option? [56]

Sorry, Poles can buy land in the UK so we should be able to do likewise here.

Because my neighbour is stupid i'm supposed to be stupid as well?

Although Giertych sometimes makes you want to shake your head, the parties foundations are sound. I think it, and Naprzod Polska will only grow in size and voters.

Foundations are as sound as people enacting them, Hitler had pretty decent and humane foundations as well (if you ignore Mein Kampf).

News / Buzek. another step to abyss? [41]

1. Endless quarrels between new and old members. Moreover, it will be accompanied with further deepening of dislike between Pl and Germany

We'll get over it due to a simple fact, money does not stink, Polish or German money is money and unlike Russians both Poles and Germans are civilized enough to, with difficulty, get over themselves and carry on.

2. European business in Russia will be freezed by constant Polish claims and pretensions to Russia.

European business in Russia is already being killed by Russian corruption and failing domestic economy, heard of Ikea withdrawal? Before you bytch about Poland start worrying about your impoverished falling apart country first.

While your politicians play around with your gas deposits your economy is going to have an extremely sharp fall this year and experts claim its a beginning of a downward trend that might lead to a collapse so Poland is the least of your problems.

3. As a result, the softening ties in EU and eventuall collaps of this union.

You wish, while its possible EU will collapse Russia will fail as a state long before that happens, compare your own demographic, civilizational and economic issues with those of EU and you've got an answer where you are as a country.

History / Poland and Hungary in September 1939 [79]

Hey Receiving end field-runner, can you negate my statement which you are quoting? Do Poland and Hungary have common border

No of course not, that makes this relationship even more impressive.

History / Poland and Hungary in September 1939 [79]

Hungary and Poland have no common border

You're just jealous Nathan, your country has always been our bastard child, desperately wanting to be treated as equals and never anything more than peasants on our fields or the enemies on the receiving end of our military and at the same time we've been able to develop such a relationship with Hungary.

You can write a history very black or very white! :)

Good point, this however doesnt change the fact that when Hungary allied themselves with the Teutonic Knights the crushing majority of the nobles blatantly refused to fight Poland.

The king had to hire mercenaries and peasants, when they invaded and lost, Poland reinvaded Hungary without burning a single village, such examples abound, the fact is that whatever conflicts we had they are instantly forgotten, tell me if Germany has such a relationship with anyone (or for that matter any other country).

History / "GANGING UP" ON POLAND? [99]

SHOW WHERE GERMANS WERE HARSHER AND MORE BRUTAL IN EITHER KULTURKAMPF OR GERMANIZATION TOWARDS POLES AS COMPARED WITH POLISH POLONIZATION AND PACIFICATION IN THE EASTERN EUROPE.

First of all Nathan when Germany conquered Poland along with Russia and Austria Poland already had a vast cultural and national heritage that would have to be forcefully destroyed via re-education, Ukraine at the time it became part of the Commonwealth dod not have such a heritage and was not a nation or a country before.

Second we didnt force you to learn our language, we just bought you, Poland kept throwing money at the education system and so did Ruthenians, we just had much more money therefore for every Ruthenian school ten more would propagate Polish culture.

History / "GANGING UP" ON POLAND? [99]

It's not the worst of societies to live in! :)

No but switch the tables, imagine that Poland after the fall of the Teutonic Order proceeded to systematically ocupy large parts of Germany and then forced you to undergo Polonization in accordance with its laws, not as bad as Nazi Germany but definitely not fun for any sovereign nation.

History / "GANGING UP" ON POLAND? [99]

Man, how brutal and harsh this Germanization was

You've got to say one thing about Prussia, despite being a grandmother of the III Reich it was a coutry of law and order, maybe not justice but law and order, as long as Poles could outsmart German law (which they quite often could) Germans would just roll with it as long as it was legal.

History / "GANGING UP" ON POLAND? [99]

It wasn't a Kampf against the Poles or the polish Culture...it was a struggle to secularize and modernize the state, to take away some of the restricting powers of the mighty roman catholic church in regards to education for example.

Given that much of the state were Polish lands taken by force and that for us religion at the time was deeply intertwined with Polish culture it was definitely against the Poles and their culture, i understand that for a German it might be strange but for us our lands were always our lands even if occupied by Germans and Germans enforcing their laws on us was nothing short of brutal occupation.

To include us under a German law would mean that Germany had any moral authority to excersize any laws upon people it essentially enslaved after invading and occupying their country.

Thats all apart from the fact that Bismarck was a prick who hated Poland (mainly because its lands constituted a healthy part of his country and Poles wanted it back) and he knew religion to be one of our cultural pillars, so yeah it was targeted at Poland.

History / Gdansk and it's history with Poland [116]

You should pay some respect to the non-polish part of Polands "golden age" Sokrates!

I do, great architects working on Polish commisions, not German ones.

PS: Honest interest here...I know about Renaissance, Barock or Gothic but how is the polish "fashion style" called?

Simply Polish Gothic, Polish reneissance, Baroq specifically was very common and had many specifics for Poland, same goes for all larger countries or cultural regions, German architecture differs slightly from the Polish one.

Also "italian" means exactly that it borrowed from Italian one, conversly German reneissance was also from the Italian school.

Yeah...Ungeradin, Brandt, Haetzl...all proper Poles! :)

What Harriet forget to say in his lying post is that the guy was working on the commission of the Polish king and that the town hall was built according to Polish reneissance fashion :))))

As for these guys, they were as Polish as Kopernik was German :)

History / Gdansk and it's history with Poland [116]

tourists even now admire the hanseatic architecture of renovated Danzig!

Like the Polish built Town Hall!

The german Hanse build Danzig, ruled Danzig and made Danzig rich

And then you woke up BB. If Hansa built Gdańsk how come Poles built a city called Gdańsk over 2 centuries before Hansa even surfaced? I know those were two different Gdańsk cities on two pararell earths!

That would explain it all, in the world you come from Germans built Gdańsk:))

History / Gdansk and it's history with Poland [116]

Maybe not but there was towns closely associated with Hansa...

Or cities located on the shores of the same see or on the same planet - no.., there is no difference whatsoever. Actually right now I am writing in Polish with a Chinese accent, but everyone understands me - so.., not a big deal, it is the same.

Actually Ironside is both right and wrong, there were no Finnish, Russian or Norway cities within Hansa but there were cities granted same priveliges on account of being strategically placed on the trade routes, in this manner the difference is purely academic.

Novgorod for example operated within the bonduaries of the Haensatic league (i love how Wiki claims Hansa built some of the oldest Polish cities btw).

@Harriet, so yes there was a Russian city associated with and operating on the same principles as Hansa.

History / THEY WOULDN'T LISTEN TO WISE OLD PIŁSUDSKI!!!! [67]

Maybe this was the real reason for Piłsudski wanting a pre-emptive strike while he perceived Germany

Or maybe not, Piłsudski was conscious of what Germany really is, he was concerned more about Russia because Russia was always bigger, stronger and a long term threat, Germany started a tytanic war but it lasted only 5 years, Russia started USSR and it lasted half a century.

in the bud but more to do with Piłsudski's ambitions of regaining long-lost territory and this maybe part of the reasons France and Britain were not willing to go along with Piłsudski?

Britain then as later was complacent in ignorance of what Germany is and those Brits who knew had their own goals to roll with it, UK was completely ready to sacrifice Poland over Germany, they only entered the war when they realized Germany would not allow them to retain their empire.

History / Gdansk and it's history with Poland [116]

I bow to your superior knowledge; but I take it that you mean '70%....are Polish re-built'

No i mean originally Polish built, by Polish or Low Countries architects on Polish commisions, if you want we can do a count of all the major landmarks of Gdańsk together with their history, bar few they're built by Poles.

I understand that "German colonists under strict Hansa supervision built numerous Hansa cities

Like Kraków or Gdańsk? Oh wait they were buit by Poles, or maybe like Kaunas? Sorry that one was built by Lithuanians.

Thorn (Toruń)..

Toruń was a Polish city since early 1000s, taken over by Teutons for about 250 years it becomes Polish again in the 500s so another Polish built and inhabited city in the League.

Back to Gdańsk we can simply recount all the major marks in the city, just because you had the "impression" or because Germans claimed it as German doesnt make 2/3s of the old town any less Polish built.

History / THEY WOULDN'T LISTEN TO WISE OLD PIŁSUDSKI!!!! [67]

Why didn't Poland go it alone? Hadn't Poland's army soundly defeated the Red Army in the 1920's?

Because no one in their right mind suspected what Germany would be capable of.

Maybe Poles didn't see the ovations that Hitler got and the sentiment he aroused as a palliative against Versailles.

Sean no one in their mind would expect something like that, its only with hindsight that we know of concentration camps, gas chambers etc, if you told this to a 1920s Pole or even a German he'd think you're nuts.

Decades later the same Pole was working in a concentration camp and the same German was cheering his idol wall painter.

History / Gdansk and it's history with Poland [116]

but it's German/Hansa legacy is blatently obvious for all to see.

Its Polish/Commonwealth legacy is even more blatantly obvious given that more than 70% of standing historical sites are Polish built :)

Gdansk

See the large picture above the 4 smaller one? The entire town centre is filled with houses built according to Polish reneissance design, the town hall is Polish, the German presence is visible here and there but definitely not blatantly obvious, unless you're claiming that for a city with a Polish town centre and majority of Polish landmarks.

As for Hanza, you're forgiven since you're apparently clueless yet feel entitled to issue silly statements, you instantly associate Hansa with Germany, some of the major Hanseatic trade centres were Polish cities such as Kraków, Elbląg and Gdańsk, at the time all these cities had predominantly Polish popuations which results in their architecture being mostly Polish in design.

Hansa was an international league, it included mainly Sweden, Saxony and Poland.
But lets roll with your "blatantly obvious" pink elefants:)

News / Polish elites vs German elites [7]

'Twas much the same in Piłsudski's time. Does noble, selfless service to the nation exist anywhere these days?

Yes, just not in the political group, also politics in times of Piłsudski were different, back then it was more a clash of ideas than patriots vs greedy shites.
