Language / Capitalization of Cie, Ciebie, and others [17]

Not at all.
You capitalise these words when you care about/like/respect the person you're writing to. Usually in personal letters.

Travel / Polish spa resorts [10]

I've never been to the saunas in Sopot myself but from what I've heard you're not allowed to get in if you're wearing a swimming suit... You need to be naked. So I guess you can't treat all the spas in Poland in the same way.

Genealogy / Rogaklski [27]

The name (and its variations) is pretty common in Poland... You'll find a lot of relatives when you start to search :D

Language / Using e or ę at the end of words [12]

is it advisable to include the word ja, on, ona, or whoevers name it is doing the verb to avoid ambiguity

Only when the context is unknown. Otherwise it's unnecessary and sounds unnatural (unless for emphatic purposes, which you already know).

Language / Using e or ę at the end of words [12]

many people with bad education say "(ja) wię, and especially rozumię", but don't follow them, it's incorrect :)

Yeah, that's a good point! Don't say "ja rozumię" - it sounds more than awful!!! ;)
Still, I know many educated people who use this form! :/ It's a plague!

Language / Using e or ę at the end of words [12]

"Nie wiem ile to kosztuje"

If you have "to kosztuje" then it's the third person singular ('to'=it), thus you'll never need to use the letter 'ę' at the end. You need to use it in the first person singular (e.g. ja rysuję [but on rysuje] [I'm drawing/he's drawing]).

When it comes to nouns, you can encounter 'ę' at the end of words in the accusative case (in the feminine gender), e.g. Kupię książkę (I'll buy a book).

Language / Cases, Genders, Nominative, Instrumental...WHY? [40]

Consider yourself lucky. I had a course in Old English at university - 9 months long!!! :P It was a nightmare! Suffice to say I don't remember ANYTHING! ;)

Read Beowulf in Old English and see if you understand anything?

Yeah! Good luck with this one! :D

created a simplified Polish (for fun, yeah...), with no grammar variations, no genres, so very simplified ;)

Examples please.

You've just realized it ? :)

Seems I have.

Language / Cases, Genders, Nominative, Instrumental...WHY? [40]

I have never askied WHY the language evolved into such a complex one.

It's actually the other way round (at least that's what I've been taught).
Polish is so complex because it's way behind most of modern European languages in terms of evolution, which naturally leads to simplifying the rules, losing case endings etc. etc.

Polson

Our mutual mindreading is not a scam it seems... !!! :P

Love / Some questions about polish girls (laska's) [4]

I know polish people are very religious

Polish people are not as homogenous as you think! Have you tried asking her if SHE is religious? And what does religion have to do with showing affection? (unless you wanted to have sex with her in broad daylight with a group of her friends watching :P)

Do u guys think this relationship could work?

Any relationship can work if the people involved want to make it work!

There are quite alot of cultural differences

Cultural differences between Belgium and Poland??? Come on!!! We all live in the EU and (sadly for some people) we're getting more and more alike!

Life / Polish Train Travel - Scary? [101]

Would both of them be the more modern trains?

Yep, they're quite ok, and usually pretty new.

The IC trains are a bit more expensive and they don't stop between Warsaw and Gdańsk.

Life / Smoking ban - will this be coming to Poland like other EU countries? [183]

I was a non smoker for many years and had to tolerate cigarette smoke in public place. Now I choose to smoke but cant go clubbing or to the pub and do so, so we are both being discriminated against.

Haha! Maybe it's time for you to think about giving up smoking again? :)

Move to the UK.. you will be able to go to as many smoke free pubs and night clubs as you choose.

You clearly don't realise what a pain it is for a non-smoker to live in a country where his/her rights are not observed.

But seriously if you are really that concerned about it, then yes I think you should stop going to clubs, as they are clearly bad for you.

That's what you call freedom of choice? I don't want such freedom!
Clubs are not bad for me. Cigarette smoke is bad for me. Smoking and clubbing shouldn't be inextricably intertwined!

Like where and what kind of consequences would you like them to bear?

I'd have to think about it. What I had in mind was that forcing me to inhale carcinogenic smoke is equally dangerous as poisoning me or beating me up, which is normally punishable.

If you dont like it then dont go to those places.

Are you suggesting I should stop going out? There are NO clubs in my city where smoking is banned! I'm too young to sit at home and wait till the situation changes! :/

What I can't understand is that there are still so many places when smokers can legally pose a threat to my health and bear no consequences! Why should I be forced to breathe in the cigarette smoke when I go out? If you want to kill yourselves with fags, I don't mind - just don't pester non-smokers with your disgusting addiction!

Polonia / German nation - degradation or just deviation? Your opinions? [66]

If this helps you, Poland isn't better either. A few years ago there was a case of a married couple who murdered their children and kept their bodies in barrels (there were 4 or 5 of them if I remember correctly...).

You can't accuse all Austrians or Germans of being monsters just because a few random citizens of these particular countries committed horrifying and unimaginable crimes. Again, it's the problem of the human kind, nationality has nothing to do with it.

Life / Polish Train Travel - Scary? [101]

You're right, I was thinking about the Intercity train - it does stop several times but only in Warsaw and Gdańsk - no stops in between (from what I remember).

Last time I took it the journey was about four hours. Faster than driving and about as fast as flying

It's longer now (because of the repairs)... And you can't say it's not slow!! In a civilised country you need about 2 hrs to cover such a distance. 4 hrs is way too long!!

Life / Polish Train Travel - Scary? [101]

What was the 1st vs. 2nd class like on this train?

I don't know... I travel 2nd class and it's pretty ok - neat and nice.

I though EX was the express train _ i do not believe there are any stops in between.

There are no stops but the train is slow due to the terrible state of the rails... :/ Some repairs have started but it's a long way off till the train can reach proper speed there...

Language / My reading and writing is awful - POLISH IS HARD TO LEARN [13]

the average Polish speaker is fluent in their language not until age 16

Gross exaggeration! Utterly stupid ;) I don't think we get fluent in Polish later (or earlier for that matter) than any other natives in their own languages.

UK, Ireland / WHY DO POLISH PEOPLE THAT COME TO ENGLAND CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH? [118]

people are coming to england because why earn 5zl per hour when your can earn 10 times that in england

You can't generalise. What you see in England is a certain social group (again, I'm not talking about ALL Poles in the UK) - uneducated, desperate to earn money to support their families etc. etc. You can't say 100% of Poles are like that.

I've started my job not so long ago and I already earn decent money. No need to look for it in England!

england has a better education system and better hospitals and the main reason poles come here is becuase the polish government are very selfish and dnt care about poles.

It's partially true, but some people do survive here and a lot of them lead quite decent lives actually!
