History / Are Germans going to pay for WW2? [180]

WW2 WHEN IN POLAND IN WW2 THERE WAS PRO-NAZI REGIME LIKE IN NORWAY OR FRANCE? POLISH PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO PAY TO JEWS BECAUSE OF THE POLISH GENOCIDE OVER THEM.

Please, I fear your history is way off.

Quote Shelly,
"Carol and Lukasz seem to want to blame someone and I personally think they are no better than the terrorists we are threatened by in this day and age! People just love to keep hate alive for there own means, it breads and festers!"

Ya Shelly that must be it, wouldn't want to call them guilty for mere millions. lol I guess I fell the truth for the dead is a wee bit overdue.

No Stalin was not our allie for the one that fought for the country "Poland" the east knew what Stalin was up to. In fact was it not British that showed outrage when they found out Soviets were killing Polish along with Nazi's.

Isthatu 2 the clip is not just the parade. Watch it and then respond please?

News / RADICAL PRO-COMMUNSIT PORTAL CLOSED DOWN IN POLAND [7]

Would it bring down some heroes, let society be a judge.

I feel the same way. I hate to think of the ones living in fear that did nothing but play along to avoid death.

News / RADICAL PRO-COMMUNSIT PORTAL CLOSED DOWN IN POLAND [7]

Polish authorities closd down an openly pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic portal Redwatch.

This makes sense as they are just hate groups.

I believe Communism was not the prob. but rather how it was applied, corrupt dictators. Any system can be misused or when appiled for the people can has positive results.

It is only in the last years that the past is being dealt with.

You will have to go to this as it will not link. It's 25 min. long youtube.com/watch?v=4wJpkCyD0Zw

Will Poland's plans to open hundreds of thousands of Communist files turn into a witch hunt? Collaborators face being banned from their professions for 10 years.

Inside Poland's Institute of National Remembrance are 90 km of tatty secret police files with the power to destroy lives. Under the government's new 'lustration' law, the files of everyone in positions of responsibility would be scrutinized to prove they didn't collaborate. "A new Poland can't be built without great cleansing", explains Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kavzynski. But critics, like former President Lech Walesa, think the law is more about settling old scores than obtaining justice. "They are using this opportunity to smear an entire generation of older people", claims historian Wiktor Osiatynski. The files have already ruined the career of Andrzej Krawczyk, once undersecretary of state to the President. "I was blackmailed -- three years in jail or co-operation", he claims describing why, in 1982, he signed a statement promising to collaborate. He never followed through and was cleared in court of collaborating. But the statement was enough to cost him his job. As Osiatynsk states, thanks to the new law; "Polish society has never been so divided."

Genealogy / Who to contact for restitution of land taken away by Ukranians due toWWII [7]

Getting property back in 'Kresy" might very well involve a lawsuit

This is not a matter of getting land back. It's a % of todays value. It is also not for the people that recieved compensation with property that was taken from the west (Germany). Poland has paid alot of people already, some as much as 100%. Deadline 12/2008

You have lost chance to take some land in western Poland,

This land is in East and you have until Dec. 2008 to file a claim in Poland. This land was Kresy and PM me for a location to get the forms. Time is running out and EU is asking Russia to take responsability.

Life / Anti-spanking law in Poland? [76]

Poles are generally against physical punishment of children, shows a research probe published by a national daily.

Think you should take your 'American studies' and shove them

In the same probe, most respondents said that a slap on the buttocks was acceptable and "normal". Sixty-six percent of the population were in favour of a legal ban on beating children. Meanwhile, 51% admitted that they had used physical punishment on their own offspring and 78%

said that a slap was "acceptable" punishment in opposition to 21% who were against this form of parental discipline.

Poland is in the midst of a discussion whether to ban physical
punishment of minors altogether, in the wake of a series of horrific cases of domestic violence against children. The discussion was also joined by First Lady Maria Kaczyñska, and ex-president Lech Wa³êsa, who said that he was foiled in an attempt to give a beating to his son, when the child reminded him that he held a Nobel prize for peace.

polskieradio.pl/zagranic a/news/artykul83 822_Poles_opposing_corporal_punishment. html

If a child doesn't learn discipline

This is so true, but discipline does not have to be hitting. I stand by my feeling. Discipline is changing a negitive behavior and as care givers we must learn to alter neg. behavior while instilling positive results.

My kid is being bullied at school nearly every day here in Poland, teased and picked on by a kid twice his age and his younger sister, who's a few years older than my kid.

Good luck at this meeting. I would demand this stop or bring a lawyer with you. This negitive behavior can hurt worse than physical fighting and the damage (although unseen) is just as bad, if not worse.

Life / Anti-spanking law in Poland? [76]

What a pile of cr@p!!!

Studies in the USA prove this. This is why our state workers go from one generation to the next. Intervention breaks this cycle in many cases. Or did you think spanking would built a stronger bond and a strong sense of self worth?

IMO many care givers use spanking not to correct the negitive behavior but they are angry and this is how they react.

Life / Anti-spanking law in Poland? [76]

IMO this law should be universal. Children taught to respect begin's at home. If a child is not going to listen out of respect, spanking will not help. They will just sneak and do the negitive behavior.

I know first hand the damage to children as I opened my home to abused children. Treatment Care is the last resort for children before institutions. Spanking children destroys self esteem and the same children that are spanked, end up abusing and in abusive relationships.

If anyone watches Nanny 911, she never hits, she demands respect and sets limits. Most often it's not the children that have to change, it's the care givers.

History / Comment on YouTube regarding Powstanie Warszawskie [32]

Soviets had already swept the nazis from pre 39 soviet territory.

Sure with conscriptions from other country's. Not on there own. In 1939 Hitler and Stalin were on the same team taking out Poland? It was in 1941 that Hitler set his sights on taking all of Poland.

Of course it was,you wont get any arguments from me on that point, but not the point that is being debated is it?

Ok then tell me this, do you feel Soviet could have defeated Germany on their own?

History / Comment on YouTube regarding Powstanie Warszawskie [32]

that the Home Army could have defeated the germans in '44?

I guess if Stalin didn't start killing in the east in 1939 and then our trip to Siberia. What was left of human beings when the Home Army was formed kicked butt. I believe of the 1.7 million 20,000 lived to make it into Home Army from Siberia. What does this say of the death rate.

If you read the post Terrell was referring to it's from a very uneducated or anti Polish moron. With this said, yes Poland was attacked from all fronts and lost high numbers right from the start. IMO Poland's fight from beginning to end was heroic when we look at what they were up against.

News / Czech Republic to settle Poland's territorial claims [4]

The dispute was to some extent settled in the 1950s when the Soviet Union ordered the Czechoslovak - Polish border to be straightened up so that it would be easier to patrol. As a result, Poland lost some of its territory."

Czech-Polish territorial disputes have a long history. In 1919, the controversy over the Těšín area, rich in coal, even resulted in an armed conflict that had to be resolved by an international peace treaty a year later. The current proposal of the Czech government to settle the Polish territorial losses from the 1950s, have nevertheless met with objections from some of the affected regions. Petr Skokan is the governor of the Liberec Region in northern Bohemia.

"The Liberec Region does not agree with the proposed territorial settlement with Poland because a Polish power plant is very close to the Czech community of Kunratice. We are afraid that the already existing environmental burden would move even closer to the village. I hope that they will hear us out because otherwise we would have to deal with an environmental emergency. I would really prefer for some other strips of land to settle the Polish claims."

News / Czech Republic to settle Poland's territorial claims [4]

Poland is working on land issues and this one seems to be going smooth. I was just wondering about this issue as the USA never has to deal with this and it seems it can be very difficult. Is there any area's that the citizens of Poland feel more time should be put into?

The Czech government is working on a proposal that will give Poland back the land it was stripped of in the 1950s, at the order of the Soviet leadership. While the territory to be returned to the Czech Republic's northern neighbour is very small and Polish claims are not disputed, some mayors that will be affected by the settlement hope their own interests will also be taken into account.

Life / Smoking ban - will this be coming to Poland like other EU countries? [183]

IMO this goes back to who is making the big bucks off "sin" tax as it's known in the states. We started with bans and then my state sueing Philp Morris, this money was to help smokers quit. Guess what it vanished. Then they started tax increase making cig. go up 400% in 3 years. Banning smokers from goverment buildings. The newest is smoking in M/V with children. This has not gone through yet. I can see all the parents lined up on the sides of highways for a cig break now. Still no free help to quit. In fact the patches cost $75. Insurance covers viagra, but not patches to quit smoking. lol

Follow the paper trail and look who's making the money. More money in cig. than heroin and it's legal.
