USA, Canada / College Grants or Scholarships in America for being of Polish decent. [14]

hey, look in the books of scholarships and grants (that is not their title though) at your local library.. there are many, many polish based scholarships and grants.. most do involve writing essays or what not but many don't.. all you have to do is apply.. there are probably more polished based ones then any other nationality.. seriously..

Food / a question about włoszczyzna [19]

out of the parsnips? really.. sounds interesting.. is that a polish meal? i have never seen parsnip used in any other way except in soups where it gets discarded prior to serving.. hmm

The better half was going from her PL experiences.

thanks again.. that is what i was after.. i am trying to make a real polish rosół (clear). we'll see how it goes as i'll be out of doors.

Food / a question about włoszczyzna [19]

not bundled like that here in the states any time of the year as not many cook soups or from scratch for that matter. we don't have celery root here either so i'll just have to use the celery stocks. i am not all too sure where i could find savoy cabbage around here but sure would like to have it.. Parsnip I have seen here and there as of late.. we'll see if they have it when i go shopping this time.

the equivalent of wloszczyzna here is just some carrots, celery and regular onions. americans aren't really soup eaters.

thanks Shawn_H and the other half. :)

Life / Suggestions required for a song that indicates "Poland". [12]

na lewo most, na prawo mos

that's really just a song about warsaw.

Wszyscy Polacy to jedna rodzina

that's a good one..

I personally like the one that has Hey, Hey, Hey in the chorus.

be more specific as obviously we're not coming up with anything and maybe that's because there just isn't one song like that.

the only song like that, that everyone knows is Dąbrowski March.

Love / Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Especially In Another Language! [46]

Jelousy, possessiveness - that's what she shows, but it's not uncommon behaviour in Polish culture

definitely not my traits.

It's very important to communicate well in a relationship,

i agree and still don't understand how one can be in "love" with another when they don't even understand each other.. that's no love, that's lust at best.

Love / Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Especially In Another Language! [46]

like going to a pub - his girl assumes he's drinking or flirting with others).

that's a sign of other behaviour on her part.. don't make excuses for the language barrier.. or do and live with those consequences..

but you're right.. she may not know how he's feeling..

sorry...i didn't bother to read this thread...
:)

yeah, you didn't miss anything anyway.

Love / Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Especially In Another Language! [46]

Actually it's very rude to say it in such circumstances.

right, i just don't have time for whining b*tches and going on and on about all this would be enough for me to tell her to get lost.

i find it rude of her to be behaving the way he's described.

Law / Question regarding major Polish highway (Wieliczka-Balice) [9]

you will see that the the land is being farmed in very long narrow strips.

true but one owner may be the one who tends a dozen of those strips.. my gramps grew, taters, wheat, buckwheat etc.. he had more then one strip.. all his neighbours did too..

"Treat others as you want to be treated" - that's all I can say.

hey, he said she's whinny and want to change him without really even knowing him.. spadaj, splywaj is pretty nice, as far as i am concerned.

to me.. how can you have all this to say to a girl whom you obviously having a hard time communicating in the first place?. let her be and just move on without all this waste of time fanfare bs. dude, life's too short and she's not worth it.. next.

Po prostu nie sądzę że to potoczy się dobrze, szef kuchni

that is better then the other...

a pozostaly jedynie miejsca pracy w czesci lokalu dla klientow i wymagaja bieglej znajomosci jezyka angielskiego.

the rest you guys/gals are splitting hair..

and man cardno, you're sounding like a girl.. let it be.. move along

Law / Question regarding major Polish highway (Wieliczka-Balice) [9]

a few could mean just about anything.. since it seems that Ukraine is floundering about with the europcup, the highway may take even longer to be built then planned. southeast PL is the most depressed of all of the country so that advice from your folks may be right on.

Travel / Going to visit Poland for long period of time - need passport? [25]

never traveled anywhere,

USA is roughly the same size as all of Europe.. no need for a passport to travel.

until recently an american didn't need a passport to travel all of the continent too. one actually still doesn't need one to do that but one has to have it to return to the states.
