UK, Ireland / Bulgaria Named Cheapest Holiday Destination in Europe (for British) [10]

Of course not that we don't want you here but maybe there are also other interesting places...

Ah, Grzegorz is looking after our best interests after all. Now that we can't afford Poland then we should consider Bulgaria and not just for cheap skiing. Stag party in Sofia anyone? Er that's the capital city not the club in Warsaw. Not that I've ever been to that club in Warsaw. You just hear about these places dont you <cough>

Nice public service post G

UK, Ireland / UK recession on the way? [58]

Best strat putting pennies in the piggy.

Time to start hoarding things too - petrol, bread, water etc. and in Osiol's case, carrots

able to afford or be inclined to play the stock market

There is also a school of thought that says that stock market speculators and the like who were intent on dreaming up ever more 'ingenious' debt backed products are more than a little responsible for the current melt down in the financial markets. Remember the days when lending was responsible?

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

2 zl seems like a good deal to me. Try parking the new shiny motor in certain parts of Liverpool and see how much the gangs of kids want for 'watching out' for your car...

I have nothing but good memories of the UK and its people.

And I have nothing but good memories of Poland and its people. Yes there were some difficulties in adapting to life there but aren't there always?

UK, Ireland / UK recession on the way? [58]

Depressing news.

Add to that the high level of National Debt against a trend of a rising not falling taxation burden, an increasing 'off balance sheet' need to fund public sector pension commitments from the current account, the other off balance sheet items like the Northern Rock bail out and waht do you get....

So much for Prudence Brown's stewardship of the economy. Anyone seen a genuine increase in the quality of the NHS or Education as a result of the moneies poured into them.

Bhutan seems nice....

UK, Ireland / My Views Of Poles Working in the UK [169]

Things like this - I find it to be ruining the forum.

Unfortunately I tend to agree with you Sophia. I was just reading through the recent posts with a view to updating the Omnibus Edition. There are so many outbreaks of intolerance, ignorance and downright insulting/vicious behaviour that I gave up. It's becoming a slanging forum. I know we have had debates on this in the past but this time I think it has gone too far. Not much hope for the world when people are so crystallised in their opinions and reluctant to even try to listen.

UK, Ireland / My Views Of Poles Working in the UK [169]

Forum History lesson Remember the spate of go home Brits and stop pushing up our property prices threads a year back. Now it's go home Poles we want our jobs/culture/men/women back. As far as I can see we both voted in governments who supported EU policy on free movement of capital and labour. If it causes anyone a problem go vote to come out of the EU. If no party has this on its manifesto then go start a political party yourself. Oh and stop coming on here moaning at us all will you?

UK, Ireland / Why so many British can't spell ? [83]

scored 41 out of 70!

Don't be so hard on yourself Jova. If I took the equivalent test in Polish I would be lucky to get the one!

Food / I can't handle it anymore...I'm cooking curry... [34]

Here's my favourite for Chicken Phal. Best served to people you dislike intensely. Only eat yourself if you have an asbestos lined mouth.

Recipe Ingredients
3 x cloves of garlic, finely chopped
1 x roughly chopped onion
2 x chicken breasts, chopped into roughly 1 inch (2.5cm) squares
10 x fresh green chillis
20 x dried red chillis
10 x fresh red chillis
1 x piece of fresh ginger, about 4 inches long
50g tomato paste

Recipe Instructions
1. Fry the onion and garlic in vegetable or peanut oil over a low heat until soft.

2. While the onions and garlic are cooking, chop the chillis into small pieces. Be careful to keep the seeds as these are the hottest part of the chilli and are essential for a phal.

2. Add the ginger, chillis, chopped chicken and fry for five minutes at medium heat.

3. Add the tomato paste and a small amount of water, so that the chicken is covered with a sauce like consistency (but not soup like)

4. Cook for a further five minutes over a medium heat, ensuring the chicken is fully cooked before serving.

5. Eat with caution. Remember that water will not cool your mouth down if you are experiencing a severe burning sensation. You would be better trying to douse the flames with yoghurt.

Food / I can't handle it anymore...I'm cooking curry... [34]

Anyway, my question to the forum is am I going mad?

Possibly. If you feel the need to prepare a Phal then you definitely have lost it and should seek professional help

Language / How Many of you love the Polish Language? [79]

It's not just Polish I know but it's the emphasis on the second syllable that gives it a distinctive rhythm. I like to hear Polish.

I know that... but since I've paid more tax than most I thought I'd get a few cheap drinks for it...

btw, the members of your government like to drink a lot in the houses of parliament

If you had to sit through that c**P day in day out you'd turn to drink too. Good prices in the House of Commons bar though. Cheaper than for the masses in the surrounding boozers

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

Do they recieve this kind of service in the UK?

Maybe that's because the bar tenders serving the Poles over here are Polish themselves!

I never once had a problem being served in a bar in Poland but that was 4 years ago now since I was last there on a regular basis. Have things changed that much?

UK, Ireland / UK Car Insurance [13]

Sounds like a zero no claims discount quote. Get your friend to get a no claims cert from previous insurer in PL. If he or she has no previous insurance then depending upon the car, where it is in the UK, and your friend's age it may not be unreasonable. Not sure the license is an issue with all insurers.

If it is for a Ferrari F499 it's a good quote

this is disgusting, govenrment intitiative meaning WE TAXPAYERS have to fund these english language courses for these bloody immigrants.

And they get double the money if they're gay or limbless. Shocking. We're much better off buying a Trident or two

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

I have been in some precarious situations in my life but none more so than queuing with the old dears of Warsaw. Bubba's right - just shout and give 'em a slapping.

Monty Python's Hells grannies sketch was based upon a trip to PL by John Cleese

Fiendish. Unfortunately non-immigration is in the queue ahead of you and so are all his mates - which makes you number three in the queue. Be patient in it.

UK, Ireland / How to dial a mobile number in the UK [26]

+48 plus the number is correct. Are you just getting number unobtainable. If so it is likely that the Polish phone is not set up to roam over here or as someone else said there is no credit.

UK, Ireland / More Polish workers leaving the Isles [28]

Could this be as a result of Daily Mail Hacks suffering from the recession and moving to work for the Warsaw Voice?

Is the Daily Mail just an artificial unintelligence system anyway?
