Life / Is drinking water in Poland good? [96]

When i go to Poland and ask or just get a glass of tap water with ice to drink, i see puzzled eyes. They want to give me tea. I grew up in Poland and drunk water from the the tap or straight of a well, I was fine. Nowadays, when i visit, I drink mostly plain, mineral water out of the bottle.

You see, it's not that the water is bad. Our body (mine) system is not used to it. The same goes for any country you visit. ..You're safer when drinking out of a bottle. My personal experience.

USA, Canada / USA, the nation of immigrants [30]

Yes, America is a nation of immigrants. Anybody who sets their foot on this soil can feel right at home from the very beginning. I did. I felt at home from the start even tough I had to learn the language, the new life style...you name it. Yet, it was somehow so close to the real ME. No matter what any jealous America basher wants say, there is no place on this earth which gives so many opportunities and - nothing more. It all up to you, who you want to be and how you want live your life. You are not given anything, you earn it. Your neighbors don't point your finger at you, if you drive a seven year old car or 2008 Hummer. It is 'normal'. You have what you want and what you can afford.

I live in the 'burbs', the cities are different. They have good parts and they have bad parts. You don't have to be there, if you don't want to. It's up to you to move.

It's not perfect, but it is close enough.
People who wish for this great country to go down are dumb, because if we go down, we take the whole world with us. Sorry, but that's the big picture and if you can't see beyond the tip of your nose that's what you'll get. We may suffer a little, but you end up in the sewer. So there.

Food / Polish Christmas table [26]

Christmas Eve is a beautiful tradition. It is a lot of work to prepare all the special dishes. That's why a lot of polish restaurants in Chicago offer the whole set of Wigilia dishes as a take out order. You may order it for 10 people or 20, even for two, whatever. It is very good too.

I've been to Wigilia like this and I did not know that that's what the hostess did! (until later) :)

UK, Ireland / British Airways cancels Heathrow to Warsaw flights ! [23]

Yes, that is true. I do remember though being in GdaƄsk in 1886'ish and it was all on the television at the time.

LOL. Oh my goodness, you're one old man! ...and, wow, they had a television in Poland at that time too! Everybody can sure learn a lot from you about Poland. :)

Love / Polish women are the best!!!!!! [77]

attraction is what brings 2 people together the first time they meet.

Unfortunately - true. However, sometimes you see a person at a party...not too attractive, maybe even ugly. Later, you happen to to talk to them. ...It turns out, he/she is witty, intelligent, interesting... fun to talk to. The attraction happens next.

Have you ever seen a couple, when one of them is pretty darn unattractive and the other is beautiful/handsome, like a model! Do you wonder... what the heck keeps them together? Trust me, until you can see beyond the visible, you miss out a lot.

Love / Polish women are the best!!!!!! [77]

What is an ugly person? We know that attractive people can be very ugly inside...
And then, we have ugly people who are really beautiful inside. Which one would you like? Remember, beauty is only skin deep.

USA, Canada / Dual Citizenship: American and Polish? [53]

I guess it can be quite convenient to have both. My friend is a US citizen, but she always uses a polish passport when traveling to Poland. I'm the opposite, I travel on American passport and let the polish one expire. However, I intend to renew it at some point...The Polish Consulate does not seem to mind (well, they will charge me more). The US authorities did not ask me to surrender my polish passport...so, why not. I can be a citizen of both countries. I love them both anyway.

UK, Ireland / An Englishman's View on Polish flocking to the UK [53]

The first generation worked very hard and the kids studied and now they prosper.

Yep, that's how it works for majority if not all immigrants. The first generation always sacrifices the most.

News / BRAIN DRAIN ON POLAND [101]

As I'm in charge of 10 Polish workers, tomorrow I shall randomly (don't want to appear to be prejudice) pick one of them out and make their day as miserable as possible.

It would great, if all of them would quit because of his "wise' business approach...I can't believe anybody wants to work for such an arse.

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Why are you saying I'm unfair toward my own people? In the previous post you said I was patriotic and I am. I always defend polish people because I know where they are coming from. You and I, we have a "common enemy" (M) who does plenty of damage belittling and saying some old, unfair stuff. Why are you putting me in the same basket? I'm disappointed.

I'm glad you believe that Poland's future is bright and I hope for the same. I have many young nieces and nephews who should be growing in a land ( a country) of opportunity. It is not happening as yet. Today's youth is in UK, often unwanted and despised. Is it really that much better now than in 70s and 80's? Not yet. As much as the world wants to think the the US is grim - not yet. Yes, it's worse than it was, but nowhere near as bad as anywhere also...

Life / How much do you HATE POLISH PEOPLE and POLAND [1260]

Puzzler, I have nothing left in Poland to come back to...besides some family. I'd have to start from zero just like I started in the US many, many years ago as a very young chick.

Nobody 'gave" me anything and I did not expect any. I'm well established with a great, well paid job...I feel at home. I plan on visiting my family (a brother and a sister) and cousins this spring ( a car trip to Paris is planned too).

Of course Poland is my country of birth and I have many great memories from there growing up, but as I spent my young, inexperienced and innocent youth in communist Poland, struggling, it left me with somewhat bitter and disappointed feeling. Too bad that Poland, then - and now - can not take care of its young generation.

USA, Canada / Would like to converse in Polish in Chicago [19]

Wisconsin isn't too far,,, I am actually looking for Polish speaking children in my area,,which is not Lombard!!!!

Lombard is the burb where the newest polish church is being built. It also has a couple of polish delis. Given that, there must be plenty of polish people living there...

My burb has none, sadly.

SOME Americans are racist. Yes. All Americans are racist. NO.

This goes for you puzzy too. I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience in America.
I guess, I'm lucky. Or, maybe it's my personality.

UK, Ireland / Do all Polish newcomers to the UK speak some English? [14]

Some of the new generation of poles try to hid their polish origins but the accents always give them away.

That would be you too even tough you are no longer considered the new generation...
