History / Why official Poland attacked Serbians in 1999? Was it worth? [49]

I fear that Poland was just as vulnerable to receiving one-sided accounts as the rest of the West. The Poles can be very nationalistic and wouldn't have sided with the Serbians on a large scale.

Why are Albanians such a protected group? They have a country called Albania funnily enough. I can remember Bush rejoicing with them, where he clearly showed bias. American intervention in Kosovo was a classic demonstration of a transgression of authority.

At least he didn't deny his roots. It just seems strange to me to have such a large Muslim group in a country like Serbia.

Crow, why were the Albanians allowed to cause such problems? What business is it of theirs to meddle in Serbian affairs?

Once a Serb, always a Serb, right? Becoming a Muslim can be a tactical thing. Many dip into it but rarely feel it like a devout follower will. Changing your spots just shows that you are moving with the times.

This was around the time of Poland's entry into NATO, Crow. I don't believe that Poland really wanted to destroy Serbs at all, they just issued protectorates.

OK, Poland was a democracy then but that doesn't mean that the people had a huge say on every issue. It's a crying shame that a country is judged so heavily by the actions of its government. The decision of Kwaśniewski was the decision of but one man.

His idiocy, if indeed it was that, should not tie future generations of Poles.

It was the employing of terrorists by the West that really got my goat. It's unacceptable. The Western media really painted half of the picture. Defending your homeland is something us Scots know much about. I agree with Crow, the war was started by others. They were merely resisting the oppressors. I'm aware that this is too simple a picture but it holds more than a grain of truth.

Life / ANYONE CELEBRATE ANDRZEJKI (ST ANDREW'S EVE)? [21]

One which has stood the test of time but, as PD said above, Burns Night is far more popular. I have a lecture to do on Scotland, hmm....

I've done one before but that was 3.5 years ago. I have to brush up and get reacquainted with some important things.

Oh, I have no reason to doubt you. NATO collaborating with terrorists is blatantly unacceptable. Al-Qaeda were again used to do the dirty work of NATO.

OK, the Serbs did some vile things too but beheading is so draconian and heinous that America should have enforced some standards.

It's a tragic irony that America has chosen those who did some of their dirty deeds, Afghanistan, to be their enemy. So hypocritical

That's a sick picture. What did Blagojevic do to deserve that?

real-srebrenica-genocide.blogspot.com
this is disgusting.

I liked some of what Clinton did but his behavior and collaboration with evil was despicable. There can be no condoning or excuse for this kind of conduct.

Let everyone see the true scale of what happened in Serbia.

USA, Canada / The 2nd Amendment (USA), the right to own guns [261]

David, you are one of the most informed people on the forum. You provide support for your positions much better than most. I was NOT having a go at you.

You may put Franek to the sword but it will be interesting.

Yeah, Franek needn't go through a Q&A session but I'm sure he'd be happy to silence the doubters once and for all.

The Franek WWII thread anyone? Step up to the plate Franek

Language / Why Polish people use so many words to describe a situation? [122]

I didn't say they were new languages, just sources which could potentially contribute to the evolution of English, in the impure form.

Maybe we should stop bickering and test this out, a thread where sb suggests a language and we have to find an English word that was taken from that language. That'd be interesting and would surely rack the brains. This thread may do the trick.

OK, an English word borrowed from French? Easy start. Any takers?

USA, Canada / The 2nd Amendment (USA), the right to own guns [261]

He posted a website where he talked about his WWII days Filios, maybe check that out. That's the kind of vet I praise. HE fought for our freedom. Vietnam, well, that just didn't need to happen. There were sinister ulterior motives behind that war.

Let's fire off a few shots as a tribute to Franek.

I disagreed with the Vietnam War but fully with the necessity for WWII. We appreciate your effort, well, at least I do.

Kompania Bracia is an excellent account of America's involvement in WWII. Their skill and bravery was legendary. I don't know how popular it was in Poland but my sincere hope is that it was well received.
