What's funny on PF's is that when immigration reform comes up: Poles, Americans, Germans usually support it but the British do not. Frankly, I don't feel I have to defend anything. I was born in the US and have traveled and prefer to live in the US. There's aspects of America I'm embarrased by (Iraq, Vietnam.etc) but there's far more I'm extremley proud of. More often than not we've been an agent for good in the world.

Further, if I defend it Europeans will say I have "no humour". I can't take criticism, etc. Your criticism is usually along the lines of Americans are "fat, stupid, obese..no culture blah, blah, food is shi.tty". Remember the Soviets came relatively close to being defeated by Finland. This of course enboldened Hitler: he fired his top brass, pushed quickly east, took more and more Russian territory and extended his supply lines. It's unlikely (not implausible) but the US probably would not have made this kind mistake.

Soviets were eventually successful defending their own land in freezing tempertures. However, even today, once off the Steppe, I don't know how formidible they really are. Also, a large part of the US can be extremely cold and is not as daunting to a lot of US soldiers.
