News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

This Polish American likes to harp on about snuffing out genocide, I applaud that. But, it was Clinton who authorised the bombing and stood by when the Serbs were mutilated. Rwanda, wow, what a success story that was :(

She is Polish? I don't think so! I thought you said you weren't a real Pole too, Filios.

Aha, so we have to invest our vast resources so quickly? Gutrot, ever heard of strategic timing? Go and read Bob Woodward's book on American military planning. It takes a long time to put things in place.

Another moaning Polka, why didn't Poland look for a Slavic pact? LOL

Life / Are Polish People Hypochondriacs? [50]

Exactly, people harp on about passive smoking and its attendant ills but being struck down from sb else's bug is nasty. They should wear those masks that all the Asians wore when the SARS virus was on the go.

Yeah, but it's the weakness side of things I don't like. I battle on through thick and thin to do my job. Here, the snivels are enough to warrant a day off for many people. The problem is, you give them the easy option and they'll take it.

News / POLES the BLACKS of EUROPE? [104]

He's gonna be set up in all manner of ways. He has such vision but it's a crying shame that he's not gonna get to realise it. The powers that be will see to that.

Governmental enquiries and rampant bureaucracy would follow. Vodka would become ever more the stock cure for life's ills. Sales would shoot up.

Generally, they are. I did a class with 15 students, the maximum. They UNANIMOUSLY said that they were. Getting L4 here seems to be like getting the daily bread ;) Bez przesady, ale wiesz!?

That seems to be about right. There is a lot of traditional conservatism here, you know, keep it Polish in the long run.

Yeah, they resent that you have all the privileges of a male, in their eyes anyway.

Yeah, hedonism runs rife. I've learned that some girls will treat you as a convenience. Sometimes the truth comes out that they feel angry that you are a man. I've actually heard it several times.

Cover your bases and keep your eyes peeled. You have to be cruel to be kind.

It's a sair fecht fir a half loaf

You don't know some women here, mysterious disappearances an all. There really isn't much gratitude in a lot of the girls here. It's like, life's harsh so screw you pal. I have a certain type in mind, they are prevalent here but my view really isn't that dim overall. You meet such types everywhere.

Greg is probably right here, Cardno. Their reality and our reality can be similar but it's likely different on this one. He knows the Polish voice well does Greg.

News / British food exports to Poland up 53% [43]

Sorry, I stand corrected Harry. 1902, as Lir said, was the first to emerge.

However, NZ introduced their version in 1919 with subsequent modifications in the 1930's.

Well, ok, it is a British food. I like it so am proud that it is British.

Food / Large oval shaped Pierogies [7]

The Japanese have sth called gyouza, it's not too dissimilar. They are filled with peas and meat. VERY tasty. You can eat them at izakayas, places to drink beer and enjoy some quality snack-style food. I miss izakayas, many a good time was spent there.

Sometimes, patience is a virtue. Give it a bit longer and see if she gets back to you. People have a habit of writing when you least expect it. You have likely signalled your intent on many occasions, so the ball is now in her court. She is likely getting used to the idea of parental rejection, winning trust takes time. Don't give up the ghost, hang fire but keep hope.

There is a bar here in Gliwice near the beautiful Peter and Paul cathedral. Next to ZUS too :(

It serves huge ones, 7 for 5PLN. It's a meal which will keep you full for a few hours.

Noimmi is right, Heinz are an American company, from Philly I think.

Marmite is from NZ, Vegemite from OZ.

So, a redefinition of British food, please.

UK, Ireland / 33% of Poles in Ireland to return to Poland in 2009 [30]

Boom and bust, kinda sums up Ron Jeremy ;)

So long as people get spooked and overreact to this financial crisis, it won't last long. It has served as an excuse to lay off workers and initiate restructuring programs.

Life / Where can I buy very soft Toilet Paper in Poland? [47]

Yeah, she had that kind of personality. She was brought up with rather strict values that bordered on puritanism. You are screwed if you believe in seditious practices, she will put an end to that, LOL.

I've often wondered about that myself. Maybe it's because they want to catch any unsuspecting visitors out. I'd describe the first type as urine soakers. You know, excess drips and all that, yeuch!

Or maybe it's a Catholic form of punishment. My Grandma is Catholic so maybe she punishes my Grandad by making him repent for his sins ;)
