News / Poland will take half a century to catch up with the West [240]

He was happy that the industry got money at all. He wasn't looking at the unfair allocation of funds. He was making a symbolic gesture (didn't BB slaughter you for that word? LOL) that it's better to be acknowledged than to be ignored. He even went on to mention their voice afterwards and how EU bureaucrats neglect it.

Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

It's not as black and white as to say that people are born gay. Contrary to what many have argued, there is a gay gene. Recent science has shown this. However, it is possible that gay feelings emerge from pyscho-social factors.

The raging debate was between Dean Hamer and Rice/Olbers. Ultimately, much hinged on chromosomes which tipped the scales towards the genes theory.

Given that social conditioning dissuades people from being gay, it is likely that it is more genetic. My friend fought his natural feelings, knowing that his family would disown him otherwise.

Others go through phases. I've known people who are heterosexual but have had a gay experience. Curiosity plays its part too.

No need to worry, the incidence of homosexuality is very low.

Breathe, people, breathe ;) 1,2,3...aaaagh!

Hey Patty, don't get me wrong, it was merely incidental that I was reading Catholic press. Protestants are guilty of the same.

Anyway, who cares what they say? Only the weak rely on what some stuffy old biddies/fogies say.

I was taught to form my own opinions based on a consideration of many factors, I don't give a hang for the opinion of any church as a definitive authority.

I wonder if their ideas 'rub off' on one another, LOL

Getting the consent or blessing of the church for a private and consensual activity and LEGAL) based on their natural orientation is plainly absurd.

America moved forward, why can't Poland?

I think money to the industry as a whole is what pawian meant, Greg.

Pawian is referring to the proportionality of payments, Greg. Poland doesn't cough up its fair share.

Fish heads? LOL Well, you eat crap, sorry, carp.

On page 15, a direct refutation

And, go and ask them. They seem to be doing all the research for the researchers, LOL

You can share your warped ideas together.

Have you been spying on gay couples through their windows again, Greg? Voyeurism is a perversion you know ;)

You must have been watching the act of sodomy, Greg, as guys kissing is not considered a sin according to the RCC. Sodomy is

Again, I agree with this. The onus is very much on Greg. I've known 3 homosexual guys very well in my life. Their morality is not in question at all.

Religious clowns are destroying this world and hampering progress.

some nice reading here.

Tomek, having paedophiles in the class is not desirable. But homosexuals? Come on, a teacher who taught kids here just showed them cards and taught basic things. He liked adult, consenting males and not kids.

Being gay doesn't make you a worse Maths, Science, Geography or History teacher.

I just did, Greg.

Also, being homosexual is not wrong or sinful in itself, this is the Catholic position.

The issue of the rape of young boys by Roman Catholic priests has been a major scandal in several countries around the world after bishops and cardinals were found to have moved abusers from parish to parish instead of defrocking them or reporting them to authorities. These priests are not only homosexual; they are paedophiles. They are not concerned with celibacy or holiness, but with depravity and porneia, from [archbishop-cranmer.blogspot.com/2008/07/pope-and-paedophiles-archbishop-and.html]

Maybe ask your noble and righteous priests, they seem to have first-hand experience whilst we just discuss the theories of others.

Your evidence is right here in your country. Don't worry, confession made it all ok.

I agree, Matyjasz, they invariably don't teach sex education but sth else where sexuality doesn't matter a whit.

Then you will continue to throw out emotionally-based stuff without weighing up the opinions of those who take different positions, Greg.

Yeah, I think Tomek was having a laugh there Irons. I hope so :)

What Tomek failed to add was this, Groth stresses that "these same individuals are uninterested in adult homosexual relationships, which negates his argument. This was directly after his lifting from the article, the very next words.

Good try Tomek ;) I actually read the whole article.

Pawian, where are you? Please, Matyjasz, PGTX, other reasonable Poles, step in and restore my faith in Polish intelligence.

Tomek, I'm not gonna insult you but what you wrote was offensive and just plain wrong. It's a caveman correlation. Read some Aryeh Neier, he did extensive research on this area. Because you see homosexuality as an aberration, you just assume that they are 'deviant across the board'. Sean referred to porn above. Neier wrote on this topic too. After extensive research, he found that those societies with an abundance of porn had lower rates of sexual crime. Now, I know that there are other factors but I'm trying to keep it simple.

The following is from an article on the issue.

'It is important to distinguish homosexuality directed towards adults from that directed towards underage children. This allows us to see that adult-orientated homosexuals are no more likely to become sexually involved with children than are heterosexuals.

Surveys have identified few paedophiles amongst homosexuals: Westwood (1960) found less than 3% claiming to be interested in young people sexually -- which is not the same as actual sexual contacts.

About 12% of Westwood's sample had had contact after 18 years of age with boys of 16 or younger.
Seventy-six per cent of the men said they would not engage in homosexual activities with anybody under 17,
and 6% said that they felt free to engage in sexual activities with a boy of any age.

Another study showed that nearly half of the men convicted of sexually molesting boys were actually married at the time (Gebhard et al., 1965); less than a third preferred children sexually to older people. Using measures of sexual arousal to different sets of pictures, it was discovered that although heterosexual men were sexually aroused by pictures of girls rather than by those of landscapes, homosexual men were no more aroused by pictures of boys than landscapes (Freund, 1963).

In short, just knowing the nature of an adult's sexual involvement with children says little or nothing about their orientation to adult men or women'.

Sorry Mods, I see now that I have quoted more than the prescribed maximum. I hardly do this so don't worry. It is relevant and essential to my point.

Forgive me, please ;)

I agree, pawian. I refer you again to the issue of subsidiarity. Many decisions should be taken locally which are not. It always strikes me how bureaucrats assume the wealth of knowledge when thay have probably never been on a farm in their lives. Not in a working capacity anyhow.

Some money is better than no money, yes, but it depends on what you give too.

Religion as a barrier to social change, I feel like writing a paper for you Greg.

Have you ever been directly harmed by a homosexual man, Greg?

Just understand the position of others, try and see where they are coming from. As I type, a homosexual act is taking place, quite probably in Poland. I'm not watching it tho and it doesn't concern me.

Go and look at Watt Vs Annan (sorry, can't remember the citation). I did this case way back in 1995, my first year in Law. It's a Scottish case which, at length, explores the public/private demarcation and the nature/role of consent.

I also did a lot of tolerance theory and its application. Check it out.

Although I don't share in Greg's radical view of the EU, I do believe that Polish farmers get a raw deal when it comes to agricultural funding. Scottish farmers are so much richer than their Polish counterparts. Just look at the cars they drive and the houses they have.

Greg, I don't think you are truly aware of the true rotation of money within the EU. Go and check out fund donations within the IT sphere alone. Read numerous sources and you will see that your figures are somewhat skewed.

I don't the political leanings of Time but I surmise, judging by this, that they are pro PIS.

If not, there are a few scathing indictments here that need rectifying.

Prince has posted some good stuff but Poland does lag behind in certain areas.

Also, such pressure as shown in the following article is unfair

Why should Germany have to be punished for being successful? They created their wealth and already contribute much.

Please BB, 2-1 to me now. You clearly haven't read what I wrote.

I was making the point that there is a 'mental' perception problem here in Poland. There is a deeply entrenched view in some that they are poor and this is not gonna change overnight.

Their education system is pretty good but that doesn't reflect in some of the jobs on offer. That's what I was trying to say and many Poles will tell you the same.

Think about it, the Poles love their food, education system, women, religious ethics etc etc. Then, why do they leave? Watch Youtube videos, ask people. For money. They were in heaven when it was 7.2PLN to the pound. Even a 1000 pounds a month job got them 7200PLN.

I wasn't talking about any symbolism in EU funding, BB.

History / Scotland and Poland. Mutual connections since 1576 [45]

Trust me, us Aberdonians know him. Our local council were actually gonna erect a statue in his honour. The actor himself is Irish-Canadian (James Doohan).

I was a Trekkie and know a fair bit about him. I liked his role in Star Trek:TNG

Mental, spot on Greg.

Poles still suffer from the 'we are poor' mentality. It never ceases to amaze me how such a quality educational system cannot produce the working conditions necessary to keep key workers.

It makes me wonder just how much quality the educational system has.

Variety is the spice of life. Those accents can be tricky.

It has been said that the salary of teachers hasn't risen like it has for the vast majority of workers in other areas. Well, let's assume that 2,600PLN is the national average. 2.5 times that isn't bad.

It's about time management and combining schedules. Luck plays its part.
