Poles declare themselves as 95% Catholics. Even if they treat church lightly or are non-believers, they still support the tradition of celebrating Christmas.
The idea of making Christmas a lay holiday has no chance in Poland for the time being. And I think we are immune to American-style political correctness.

Life / Are Polish People Hypochondriacs? [50]
Basically, medical care is free in Poland if you work legally (insured by your employee or yourself). Why not use it when we think there is a problem? Your taxes go for it.....
I don`t think so. When I read statistics how many billions are spent on home medicine in other countries and compare it to Poland, I realise we are far behind USA and Western Europe.
Every day tons of viagra and other are taken in the USA.
She didn`t know what was happening. She saw you in pain and preferred to take some action. If she hadn`t and you had died of blown-up appendicitis, she would be one to blame.
Plus I hear about people just going to the doctor for all sorts of stupid things. Even just check ups (I haven't been for a check up as long as i can remember, neither has anyone I know) seem commonplace. Is it just me or are people much happier to go to the doctors here than back home? And if so, why?

I was quietly lying about in pain listening to the radio and i heard her up and about so decided to ask her for some painkillers. She asked why and I said I had food poisoning and stomach cramps. Next thing you know she is telling me I have to go to hospital. I say that I don't need to, I just need some painkillers and asked again if she had any. But no, there was no stopping her. I now realise this is quite normal and in future to not mention anything.

That`s normal, isn`t it? What do people do in other countries? Lie on one sheet and cover themselves with another? Strange..... I wouldn`t be able to sleep at all in such conditions....

Polish people, or the ones that I know, do not sleep under sheets, under any circumstance. They only use one sheet to cover the mattress, and then sleep directly under the duvet/comforter, no matter the season or room temperature.

That`s intentional. They believe that when you leave your feet out, you fall asleep faster. And then you are fast asleep all night long. :):):) And your roommates as well...

There are catering firms, at least in big cities. I don`t know about rural areas but the schools there have their kitchens on the premises....

I always give my seat to the elderly on those rare occasions I use the public transport (twice a year or so). That`s what a true Krakowian does. When he/she doesn`t, people know you are not from Krakow, not even Polish. :):):)
There are similar types in Scotland but, generally, they will thank you for giving up your seat. Here, they expect you to so screw that. I paid my money, I was there first, I expect a seat. It is a contract after all.
