Do you use a parsnip? Is it cooked or not>?
Do you use a celery root? Cooked or not?
Do you use celery sticks, cooked or not?

I don't understand whats cooked, and whats not in this recipe I am dying to make. Thank you very much.

hmm.. the only uncooked thihngs would be: apples, celery and the s&p and parsley, mustard, mayo, pickles.

everything else should be pretty soft and pealed and about ~1/4in cubes/chunks.

in my version of the salatka, instead of apples, I add in marinated mushrooms. Delicious

marinated mushrooms

I like the sound of marinated mushrooms (not just the sound of the words). What would you marinate your mushrooms with?

I buy the ready marinated ones, and just chop them up. But I have to say, by adding these in, I think it shortens the life of the salatka.

The recipe I know goes like this;

4 large boiled potatoes (with their skins on and then peeled after)
2 red onions
6 boiled eggs
3 big carrots, boiled
250 g of peas - boiled or from can ( I don't make it with peas because I don't like them)
200 g cucumber
350 ml of mayo
salt
pepper
optional: large handfull of grated cheese.

You dice cooked potatoes, onions, eggs, carrots and cucumber and then put in to bowl with mayo and stir all together (if you're using peas they go in also...). Add the salt and pepper to taste (as much or little as you prefer) add the cheese if you like it. Make sure it's all mixed up. Cover with cling film, put in the fridge and serve next day for best results.

Please give me any other ideas you might have about this. :)

Actually I'll probably use pickles next time I make it, I don't know why I use cucumber, I don't even like them. Probably becuase that's what the recipe said... ;)

I like raw onion though. :)

my version of this winter salad has all cooked vegetables cooked separately. The celery is minced finely and pressed through a seive. I think you could use it raw if preferred by cutting very finely. The apple should be raw and grated the onion should also be grated or minced finely Babcia in Maine
